DEV INDRA DECIDES TO HELP
Kama Deva entered the throne room as the other Devas and Gods left. Kama, with Rati, his lover, and Vasanta, walked in, pompously. He was haughty due to his being able to conquer all the three worlds.
Making the obligations to the Lord of Devas, he folded his hands reverentially in front of Indra, and asked, "Oh Lord of the Devas, please do tell me for what I have been summoned? What is my duty? How can I serve you, Devraj?"
Indra was very pleased with the proper address of Kama Deva. Praising him lovingly, Dev Indra said, "Oh Kama, it is a great thing that you are ready to carry out the task that I have for you. I am greatly pleased. What I am about to ask of you is of great importance, and both of our roles in this are equal. When one friend goes through one thing, the other goes through the same as well. You know that I have a great many friends, but yet, none of my friends are at par with you. The thunderbolt was made for my conquests. Yet, even if my thunderbolt fails, you have ever done so. Who can be dearer to one than the one from whom benefits come? Due to this, you, Kamadeva, my greatest friend, must carry out this task for me. Time has been long, and a great misery has befallen me. None but you can set me free. The test of a donor is at the time of famine, the test of a warrior at the time of battle, the test of a friend is at the time of adversity, and the test of a woman is at the time of financial weakness of the family. The test of a real friend is at the time of distress. Oh Kama Deva, please remove this distress from me. Additionally, this matter doesn't concern only me. It concerns all the Gods as well"
"Oh Lord of the Rains! Why do you say this? An unhelpful friend is neither seen nor heard in this world. One who talks too much during adversity doesn't do much of work. Yet, oh King of Devas, listen to what I say once. Don't worry, my friend. I shall bring the downfall of the enemy who is doing severe penance to usurp your position. I shall use a beautiful woman to send him astray. Set aside all your weapons, Devraj. I will do this job for you. I can make Brahmadev go astray, as can I Narayana and Mahadeva. I have five arrows with me, all soft and flowery. Additionally, I also have three types of bows, which are also flowery. My strength and support is my wife Rati, Spring is my minister. Tell me what I should do and that I shall", said Kamadeva, his words pleasing Deva Indra.
"Oh Kamadeva!", began a pleased Indra. "Only you can perform this impossible task I have in mind. No one but you can accomplish it. Securing an invincible boon from Pitamah Brahma, the Asura Tarakasura has become a pest from everyone. He is tormenting all the beings of the three worlds. No weapon destroyed him. The death of this evil creature was foretold by Brahmadev. The son of Lord Shiva, a Shiva-bala, is the only one who can destroy him. But the great Lord is at penance now. And being served by the daughter of the mountains, Himavanputri, Devi Parvati"
"So you want me to go and induce love in the mind of Lord Shiva for Devi Parvati", said Kamadeva, now understanding why Indra wanted him. Confident of himself, he said, "I will do it, Devraj. Never fear. Your wish will come true"
"I know you will, Kama. You will bring Lord Shiva out of self control", said Indra.
Both men fell trap to Maya, not realizing all this was the game of the Supreme Lord Himself.
In Himalayas...
Parvati felt some sort of fear grip her heart. She knew something was going to change soon, too soon. She had a feeling that the great Lord was going to be disturbed from His meditation. That would result in destruction. She wanted to stop it, but she didn't know how. She didn't know what was going to make Him break His penance.
Her agitation was broken by her friends calls. She had to go to worship Him, He who is the greatest of all, He who she was deeply in love with. Excited, she rushed out, eager to go to Lord Shiva and worship Him.
