Hey!

After Aish and before Priyanka Chopra there was Freida Pinto. Stuck in the middle, she seems to be forgotten.

What is your opinion of her and her film choices? Do you think moving to Hollywood was a good decision? Or did it just invite being typecast or maybe not being cast at all?

Coming to her looks, we see a polarization of opinions where Westerners seem to think she is quite good-looking while the audience back home argues that she is an ordinary Indian girl and is nothing special. Do you think it's just a case of differing beauty standards? Or is it that her home country doesn't appreciate girls who look like her? She has also argued that it is because of her skin tone that she is not thought of as good-looking here in India. Valid complaint?

IMO, Westerners like her features and Indians don't. She is not the typical Indian beauty that Indians like nor is she exotic like Katrina Kaif. Unfortunately for her, that means most people here will not think she is a great beauty.

What do you think of her personality and acting skills? She also seems to have picked up a British accent from somewhere. She has received flak for calling out Bollywood and India in general for discrimination on the basis of skin colour etc.A lot of people seem to think she is a 'traitor'.

What say?

I think she is quite good looking and more importantly she embraced fashion. Her skin tone absolutely helped set her apart in a good way IMO.The western press loves someone "exotic" who does fashion really well and Freida does both RC and casual well.
What sunk her is her lack of talent. Hollywood will not pay attention to you as an actress unless you are a Lupita level talent if you are darker skinned and an immigrant. But you can make a good living if you are a fashionista even without talent like Blake Lively does. Frieda is the desi version of Blake, unlike PC who is the talented version and does fashion well too.

IDK about the "traitor" part ?

I think she is very pretty (in fact I think she could be used as a sign that Indian obsession with fair skin is alive and well since so many Indians find a taller girl with symmetric striking features ordinary. She is most assuredly not the ordinary Indians I see :).

She is not a very good actress and didn't seem to improve much even when working with talented directors. There are very few - even drop dead gorgeous girls (regardless of skin color) - who continue to get acting roles if they don't also have talent. Those girls get bit parts in action films (why I'm a little nervous for Deepika) where they look hot and nothing else or no work at all.

IDK her choice of films. Because besides Slumdog Millionaire, I've seen her in that Planet of Apes movie. Ahh.. she's okay.. as an actor.

Coming to her looks, oh come on, she's beautiful! :)

From what I have observed - both here on IF and in real life, people's standard of 'beauty' is way too high. Anyway, I think it's just subjective.. My dad doesn't find Aishwarya goodlooking :/ ..it's just very subjective.
