The importance of Mallika & SJ cameo

Seriously amazed at some of the posts on what's the need for Surbhi Jyoti's cameo. Many posts ridiculed Gul for bringing her in to increase TRP or to fill in the gap that came after Ishkaara's track was put on hold. I responded to a post but thought this deserves a separate post. I feel strange that many didn't get the subtext of SJ cameo. No, she wasn't called to increase the TRP. Ishqbaaaz is already a hit show-- it doesn't need to bolster it's TRP's with cameos (It's just a small point away from Kasam which is a slot leader). No, SJ didn't come to bring ShivIka closer-- their story hasn't even started so they don't need an external push. The ONLY reason Mallika was brought was to start a social conversation-- whether you can be friends with your ex'es AND the fight for equality that daughters & daughters-in-law face in every household where a mother believes ki Mera Beta Heera Hai.
It's commendable of Gul & her writers that they served such important messages within the guise of entertainment without being preachy or boring. Even that horror track was to prove that fear has no gender.. and all of you mocking how the show became a sitcom well to you all I say it takes great talent to give such important messages with laughter. That is some great writing. Amazing that you all didn't get it. Guess we are so used to substandard television with usual saas bahu, two wives, supernatural Naagin daayan makhi nevla rakshas crap that when good, evolved television is served to us we mistrust it so much that we mock it.

Glad you posted this as a topic..its really disheartening and sad and shocking to see that some dont get the messages the CVs are trying to give.

And at the same time, its amusing to see comments like SJ was brought to increase TRP and it failed so they are ending the track etc. (Only 1 week TRP has come after she entered)... the track is ending as it was meant to end and GK and team surly knows that TRP wont rise by bringing in an actress for 2 weeks regardless of how famous the actress is... so if she was brought for TRP she would have been kept for atleast a month by the end of which they might have ended her track if TRP did not improve..

yea Mallika was neither brought to increase TRP nor to help in taking Shivika relationship forward..although, Mallika being the Ex girlfriend of Shivaay she would know that side of Shiyaay much better than OmRu and therefore is in a better position than OmRu to help Shivaay in realising his feelings, still she wasnt brought for that purpose... dont know why people cannot grasp the underlying story...perhaps as you said, people are too used to superficial, sensless TV shows like saas bahu and naagin and what not... and some melodrama and heavy dialogues are is required for them to grasp anything

I reckon this was the exact reason of the cameo.

It's shameful how we disrespect the actor or character just like that.

Malika's entry promo posted by Gul had a clear message about the "ex" girlfriend.

Then her reason of eloping the wedding

Then Malika dumping Shivaay knowing that he has everything name, fame success & what not.

Her proving that girls are no less than boys.

And many more from just a small cameo.

We are so into love stories, romance be it ShivIka, Ishkara or RuMya that er don't see the other side of the picture.

I made a post about Malika before but wanting to keep it fun filled ad I know nany didn't like her so didn't want to read bad comments.
So glad that you posted this 👏

Thats because her track and her story is being weaved to the actual story of the show... and frankly her being Shiyaay s ex girlfriend, in some ways she would know Shiyaay much better than even OmRu..thats the reason why she s noticing things about Shiyaay and Anika so easily and the reason why she s trying to help Shiyaay... but its not the main purpose of bringing SJ as Malika and the purpose of this track... the purpose of this track was to bring forward a way to raise awarness regarding some social issues and beliefs etc..

GK had tried this in QH too and its commendable that without trying to create melodrama for TRp, she s still trying it this way despite the cut throat competition for TRP.

And people who are criticising her saying this track had halted the story of IB from going forward, i would like to point out that the story is progressing even during this track.. Shivika s story had progressed.. and thats needed for the actual story to move forward.

And even after this track ends, the story is not going to move forward at breakneck speed...coz this is a serial which is being planned to run for at least a year or may be years... if people want to see shows that has tight script and that move forward quickly, then the whole concept of Indian shows need to change from these long running ones to short finite serials..unless that happens shows will always drag regardless of what track goes on.

So glad that you posted this seperately... only tdy gul posted a video of what she wants to convey thru the character of mallika i.e women empowerment. ... but some ppl still think she was got for trps *slow claps*...
I think all they care is abt trp... trp audience only like shows like sns, brahmarakshas, kkb and craps like tat... IB has got decent trps from start... so dont make IB join with those crap serials just bcoz in need of trps... krpkab, edkv are realistically scripted serials but has less trps ... so let IB be itself...
P.s: gul cannot handle serious drama... thats whr QH went kaput. .. so enjoying IB in this phase itself holds good for IBians

Omdays, I don't join in with any of the arguments that break out on the forum, but I just want to say that I love this post.
When Mallika was telling Shivaay why she left Sidhharth and how painful it was for her to be disregarded by her future in-laws despite being the pride and joy of her parents' life, my heart cried for her. Surbhi was amazing in that moment and I can't believe that her words and feelings didn't resonate with women everywhere whoknow that a large section of society will ALWAYS believe that a woman's role is in the home regardless of everything else she achieves in her life.

Ishqbaaz is sending so many positive messages about women be it the positive relationship between Jhanvi and Pinky, the fact that all the females in the younger generation get along really well and don't talk badly about each other (loool the cattiest character in the show by far is Rudra, bless him), the fact that Tia's reaction to seeing Malika in Shivaay's bed wasn't to turn into a psycho-villain and start wearing vamp eyeliner and plotting Malika's murder but instead being angry atShivaay and confronting him directly after taking a bit of time to cool her head... tbh everything about Tia being so authentic albeit her representing the Instagram-society which DOES definitely exist in her social class I love.

I don't know, I feel like Ishqbaaz is actually sending some pretty great messages beneath the comedy and the squeal-inducing romance. For Gul's own sanity she should probably just stay away from forums and keep on doing her thing loool, after all, even if people complain- at least it means they're watching, right? 😆

Thank you for making this post! And I can't agree more with you and the people who have commented here. I have been really disappointed with the derogatory storylines in Gul's shows in the past and even in IB (Shivaay manhandling Annika) But still can't help but find it sweet and praiseworthy that she actually introduced new characters, which aren't part of the actual storyline, to raise this issue.

Mallika hails from a rich family (correct me if am wrong here) is a businesswoman herself (though all these days she wasn't shown working..but hey how many times have they shown Shivaay working either 😆 Let's just say she had taken a break from work for her wedding which got extended) Sidharth's family members are all educated and rich people too and yet his mother had such a mindset. It actually depicts a reality that no matter how educated or successful a woman might be she's not untouched from sexism. Look at the sexism faced by the most talented and successful actresses in film industries all over the world. Or the example of commentators in Rio Olympics being more pro-male atheletes.

Sorry for going off topic but what I mean to say is the makers were trying to raise a very relevant issue. It can be debated how effective or ineffective they were in doing the same but hey atleast they had their heart in the right place.

How is it a waste or unnecessary to show a friendly character like Mallika? I loved the friendship that Shivaay and Mallika shared despite of being exes. We don't see that happening in our daily soaps very often, do we? I loved Mallika and Annika's jugalbandi too and the friendliness that they all share.

Now to the most coveted topic- the trps! 😆 Reading some of the comments on the forum made me feel like a murderous villainous character would have been more welcomed if it increased trps Too bad instead we get a cameo of a friendly and flawed character who mostly only teamed up with the gang and had some cute funny moments with them 😆

Sorry the comment got really long :)
