I think it's very much related to the comfort level between the two actors....
whether its SRK-Kajol, Raj-Nargis, Dharam-Hema, Amir-Juhi, or even Biru-Deepu (a little bit) or RS-Deepu
even if the individual actors are the most gorgeous ones but still act stiff / restricted while together then it will definitely affect their romantic chemistry...

I'm someone who looks for that platonic vibe in a romantic chemistry. For me it isnt love if two people arent best of friends.
Or even if no friendship, there should be a natural attraction between two people. Something that has got nothing to do with each others' physical looks.
So a romantic chemistry IMO has to be something which gives you that warm & fuzzy kind of feeling... something that puts a big foolish grin on your face. It should be absolutely natural & real. The friendship, romance & fights should be equally real. You know when something is real, that intensity which we generally search in a relationship comes across naturally.

In 2016, I feel only Diljeet & Kareena shared that type of chemistry in Udta Punjab.
Then my other fav jodis are Piku-Rana, Bunny-Naina, Bittu-Shruti, Sid-Ayesha (Wake Up Sid), Veera-Mahabir (Highway), Sid-Pari in Hasee Toh Phasee, Sonakshi-Ranveer (Lootera), SRK-Juhi (in all their films), to name a few 😆

I personally feel such kind of chemistry is generally underrated.

On-screen: It has to connect. After SRK-Kajol, I thought Shahid-Amrita had the best on-screen chemistry. Right now, there's no one pair that particularly stands out as such. I like Varun-Alia though, probably the comfort level they share as friends translates on screen. RS-DP were mind-blowing in RL, but BM ruined it for me. Too much exaggeration of the same thing takes the charm away. It looks forced after some point. I don't think it has anything to do with looks, but that's just me. IK-DP in Piku for me had mind-blowing chemistry. Two good actors, great dialogues, it flows. You don't have to have smooches, and sexy scenes and romantic songs to light a spark.

Also, one thing. TV couples seem to have a lot more chemistry than movie stars, I think simply because you have so much more time to explore what clicks. That's why even today, BW may have more fans of individual actors, but I feel as if TV has more fans of couples/pairings.

Off-screen/Real-life: I'd like to steal something that SRK said about him and Gauri on KwK, it's exactly how I feel about romance - "Romance can be simply walking across each other from the living room to the kitchen." If you find romance in the little things that you do, couples would never 'fall out of love' and drastically decrease the current divorce ratio.
