I'm not a fan of the movie. Nor of KKHH. I like SRK's 2000s releases a whole lot more.

Not necessarily overhyped as much as idolized. I think the concept of the movie was fresh at that point in time, which is why it became a cult. Try making the same thing today, and it'll be an epic fail. Also, SRK-Kajol work at any point in time, still do.

The one movie of that era that is talked about a lot and I personally loved was HSSH. I thought it had the right amount of everything. A good message, amazing pairs, great chemistry, great sound score. Sure, it's an idealistic movie, but how awesome would it be if the world was genuinely that good? That movie has some all-time favorite great scenes, like when the siblings bring Tabu with her answer to Manish about his letter, or Manish/Salman's poverty scene at the village, or Salman's changing bedroom scene fight. I still remember them vividly. I never get bored of watching that movie over and over. Great repeat value!

I also like Vivaah for the same reason. It's got great performances and a typical, but well made storyline. Shahid-Amrita were magical. I thought for the longest time they'd be the next SRK-Kajol. Elas!

Always
It was cringeworthy when it was released, hasn't changed in all these years, hasn't stood the test of time
