Kapil Sharma took to Twitter this morning to send out a couple of angry tweets to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he has to pay bribes of up to 5 lakh to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on top of his annual income tax.

But now, in a twisted turn of events, the BMC has denied acceptance of any bribes, but alleging that Kapil Sharma is illegally constructing his office despite being sent a notice by the BMC

A BMC official was quoted as saying that the second floor which Sharma is constructing on his office is violating norms of construction. He also ignored the notice sent by BMC asking him to cease construction and continues to construct illegally. The Mumbai Police have decided to summon Sharma and question him regarding his tweets and allegations against the BMC.

Earlier, Chief of BMC's vigilance department, Manohar Pawar, held a press conference to address Kapil Sharma's allegations, but he refused to comment on the stop-notice sent by the BMC to Sharma with regards to his illegal construction.

"The Municipal Corporation has seriously considered the complaint tweeted by Mr. Kapil Sharma. The Corporation does not entertain corruption or bribes, as such, of any kind. We have sent an official letter to Mr. Sharma, asking him to reveal the name and details of the official who has asked for and/or received the bribe from him. After receiving the said details, only can the Corporation investigate according to the set procedures. But there hasn't been any formal complaint from Mr. Sharma as of now."

As the issue pans out, only time will tell what the actual truth of the matter is.

Sensing a possible onslaught on BMC, Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray too joined the league. "@KapilSharmaK9 thank you for being an alert Mumbaikar. Wld req you to assist Mayor and the MC to help in the drive against corruption" he said. Mr Thackeray also advised the comedian that details of the officer would be required to initiate action.

Meanwhile, BMC held an urgent press conference on Friday at 12.30 p.m., where its officer from Vigilance Department called it a serious allegation. "Kapil ji's allegation is very serious, have asked him to give name of person who asked for bribe. No formal complaint from Kapil Sharma till now," said Manohar Pawar from the BMC.

According to sources in the BMC, Mr. Sharma was served a notice in August to stop the illegal construction work of his office, which also seems to have irked the actor.

The Chief Minister's immediate response however met with sharp reactions from opposition, who accused him of not replying with similar urgency to common citizens as it was done in Sharma's case.

Leader of Opposition in the State council, Dhananjay Munde said that he has been vocal about BMC's corruption in every legislative council session. "@Dev_Fadnavis @KapilSharmaK9 @narendramodi I had pointed out BMC corruption several times in council, but no action taken then by CM," he tweeted.

He said, Sharma is lucky to have received response from the CM, otherwise he doesn't even bother about the evidences that we present.
