what i think is that the problem is not that dev dumped sonakshi. Even Sonakshi understands this that he did this for his mother but she is hurt more regarding the fact that Dev took the decision on behalf of both of them and did not discuss with her. But simply ended the relationship.

Before performing such an extreme step, Dev could have also had a one-on-one talk with his mother asking her about what insecurities she has and why and try to find solutions to them. Make Ishwari look at Sona in the way that he sees her.

He could have worked on trying to solve the situation.

Before that day he never knew that his mother had issues with Sona. But when he came to know, rather than jumping to this rash decision, he could have talked with his mother to get why Ishwari does not like Sona. Koi to reason hoga na and try to remove that reason.

But if all that had failed, then the matter may have been different.

But breaking up like that without care about the 2nd party involved was not good even if he did this for his mother.

He will have to leave gracefully. Because he has not yet figured out how to handle the tangle. He wants to but is struggling to do so. He needs time, which Sona is not giving him now (obviously after his abrupt break, she is not in a mood to relent and has also forgotten her part of her promises).

he will be even more heart broken for sure. The Q is the million $ Q in his own mind.. how to get Sona back in his life along with his Maa.. pity his state.
