I think Mamaji and Dev's scene where Dev will hurt his hand will be post Dev drunked scene where he will again say no to Sona for marriage.
I think post that mamaji will put some sense as shown in the scene that he has taken the wrong decision Dev also realising that Sona will be not be happy without him.
May be then he will try to stop the engagement.
Share your views...that scene will make sense after that only.
Because when he is drunked, he still has not realised his mistake and promised Sona to not to meet her again.
Once he get to knw engagement date, mamaji will come in picture.
As seen nowadays mama is observing Dev and their scene is where he will realise his mistake.
