This is extremely satisfying for me as my favorite star is doing great. This record of three 100 club movies within 8 months is unique in its own, but what is more important for me is Akshay has re-invented himself. I remember me myself being tired of his run-of-mills comedy movies, although he had reached earlier BO peak because of those comedies in 2006-2008, specially 2007 where four hits- Namaste London, Bhool Bhulaiyya, Heyy Baby and Welcome, I loved all of them. But than it got stale and many of the next releases failed to capture the same success he had during the peak of comedies, because reason being it had gotten stale. Although he tried experiments with Tasveer.
He did had some great sucess in 2012 with his biggest hit Rowdy Rathore(in which he was bloody brilliant) Housefull 2, and other few still something was missing.
Than he gradually started to do movies with proper story and content, not full change-over/make over but a slow and steady change. IMO it started with Patiala House, yes the movie failed at BO and was not really a good movie, but it had Akshay trying something. Than came OMG! which is one of best movies of this decade, it was still a comedy but it had a proper story and Akshay doing a very different role than his recent run of the mills roles. Than with Special 26, his credibility increased, OUTIM was a failure both commercially and critically but I am happy he did the movie because we saw Akshay in a different role, his first negative since Ajnabee I think and he nailed it as underworld don. Also Holiday happened which is a very good movie and also quite underappreciated one. It had good balance IMO of comic relief and actual story.
Than came Baby, who thought this is the same happy go lucky Akki we had seen since so many years, he was absolutely believable as a serious cop(yes RR had shown glimpse but it had RR as OTT action hero) who also looked physically intimidating especially when he was with Rana Daggubati. Than Brothers was a failure but Akshay was excellent in it, watch the movie and you will note it.
Than came Airlift and than everything is there to be seen. Airlift is his finest movie IMO(not his performance he has previously given as good or better performances) but the movie was outstanding. It had the appeal and story, it showed Akshay as a vulnerable human being, he was no longer the hero people knew who could kick ass, yes Special 26 also had him doing that, but that was a start, Airlift had Akshay as a human being a normal being not a hero who can kick ass at will. Housefull 2 was silly, but hey Akshay is always about money, so it is fine for me. Rustom is not as good as OMG! or Airlift or Baby or Special 26 or even Holiday but it is still much much better than the crap he did in many years.
So even more than the BO success, I am happy about the image makeover he has done. Now people can go to his movies expecting that "chalo Akki ka movie hain, badhiya hi hoga ".
