I commend the Indian team at the Olympics. Well done
Considering the size of the population the team is very few. The number of athletes below the age of 25 is very low.

It seems gym culture has really taken off in India and many wanting to get the athletic build and six pack.

Very few wanting to devote themselves to an Olympic sport?

You have guys in Bollywood like Vidyut and Tiger doing all these acrobatics and no strong male gymnastic team has been formed?

I don't know whether its lack of funding, lack of interest in society.

Maybe its frowned up and being a professional athlete is not seen as a stable career move.

So parents discourage their children.

What is discouraging younger people from taking up an Olympic sports?

I understand the space program benefits India with them being able to launche satellites that other countries can use. More money thatvhelps the economy.
I mean they really need to start supporting the athletes and encouraging young people.

There seems to be so many nationals in the Forbes Richest list.

Yet very few willing to have their companies sponsor athletes.

The system needs to change, big overhaul is needed

Remember the scandals, delays, the corruption during 2010 Commonwealth games held in Delhi?

I heard in 1982 Asian games were held in Delhi and they did a great job then, nearly 30 years later the same party was in power and what happened? It's like India is regressing

The first thing, Indian government needs to do is get out of the way and privatize the Indian Olympic program. The private system then can create a need for the sport and create competition in India, and get young people to take up the sports. Youth and parents need to see that there is incentive to be involved in the sports and make money from this.
