Your mother does not approve of Sonakshi and your relationship! Maamaji's words kept reverberating in his ears. He tried to remember all of those incidents in the last few days where he had had a discussion with his mother about Sona. What had he missed? Why couldn't he tell that she was upset? What was it about Sona that his mother could not like or accept?

Sona had come to the hospital with her family as soon as she heard about what had transpired at home. He could tell that she was concerned and as shattered as he was. She cared about him. She cared about his family. He felt a little guilty that his family could not reciprocate her feelings for them. Without saying much lest he says something inappropriate, he had asked her brother to take her home, avoiding any conversation with her for the moment. He had to sort this out for himself before he spoke to her about it.

Now, as he sat thinking things through, he felt maamaji and maami standing next to him. Taking advantage of his vulnerable state, maami suggested I have always been saying this to you all. Servants should be treated like servants. If you try to give them any other place, there will be a problem. See what has happened now! Gauging his silence, she continued Beta, there is so much of a status difference between us and them. This was never a good match.

At a point when he realized in his heart that he may have to choose to lose her forever, it was painful for him to hear anything against her, even if it was from maami whom he always chose to ignore. Sona was his love. There would never be another. And he felt fiercely protective about her at the moment. He could not and would not let anyone insult her, not in front of him, not behind his back. Turning to face maami and smiling a little, he asked What is our status maami? What is our status? Maamaji had a job that paid the bills in your house. Isn't that going to be his identity for life? Do you think you are low in status therefore? Sona's family is exactly like yours. Every time you question her status, you are insulting maamaji. Please think about that.

Radha Rani was shocked that Dev had very subtly shown her place to her. Offended, even irritated a little, she tried to object with a Beta.. which was quickly subdued with a Maami, I respect you a lot. I respect maa a lot. Just like that, I respect Sona a lot. I will not stand for you insulting her in front of me, no matter what the situation, just like I wont stand you or maa being insulted, no matter what the situation. With that, he got up and walked away. He had made his mind about how he will handle this situation.

The tension in the Bose house was palpable. Ishwari ji had attempted suicide. Although no one wanted to acknowledge it openly, in their hearts they all knew that it had something to do with Sona and Dev babu's relationship. It has not gone unnoticed by Bijoy that Dev babu had completely avoided talking to Sona when they were at the hospital. As Asha, Elena and daadi sat with Sona in her room, Bijoy and Saurabh waited in the living room praying that things would become alright. It was past 11 in the night, and Saurab was surprised when he heard his phone ringing. Feeling anxious, he looked at the screen to see Dev's name flashing on his screen. Looking at his father who seemed equally concerned, Saurabh answered the call

Saurabh updated his father about Dev's request. Making an excuse of going out for a stroll to clear their heads, Saurabh and Bijoy headed out to meet Dev at the hospital. Once there, Saurabh messaged Dev to meet them outside. Walking out, Dev noticed the both of them waiting for him, and he could see the tension in their faces.

Dev babu. Is everything alright? Bijoy asked with concern.

At this, Dev could not hide his emotions and a lone tear escaped his eyes. Quickly wiping it, he turned back to face them with a small smile, but this action had not gone unnoticed by Bijoy and Saurabh.

Dev extended his hand to hold Bijoy's. Although surprised, Bijoy let him do it. Sir...Uncle... I need to talk to the both of you about something. I know this changes the course of my life, but I don't see another option.

Bijoy and Saurabh looked at each other and back at Dev. Bijoy nodded for Dev to continue. Still holding his hand, Dev said I love Sonakshi. I have never been in love before, and I know there will be no one else. I love her. But I love my mother too, and today, my mother is a bigger responsibility to me. I have been talking to my family about why maa may have taken this step. Apparently I was the only one blind enough not to see it, but my mother was extremely upset about my relationship with Sonakshi. I don't know why! I always thought she liked Sona. But even in her state of unconsciousness, all she has been saying is that she is a bad mother. My sisters, my mamaji, everyone could tell that my relationship with Sona was bothering my mother. But I failed to see it. At this a few more tears rolled out of Dev's eyes.

Now pulling him a little closer, Bijoy put his hand on Dev's shoulder to console him. Dev babu.. please! It will all be ok.

Dev babu Bijoy said with shock

Bijoy and Saurabh were also in tears. They were shocked. They couldn't even imagine what this would do to Sona. But as much as they were concerned for Sona and breaking inside, they knew that Dev was breaking more. And unfortunately they did not know him well enough to give him the comfort that he needed at this moment.

Bijoy composed himself and asked What is it that you want us to do?

Take care of Sona for me. I know she will come to the hospital tomorrow. When she does, I intend to tell her that for maa's sake, we cannot be together anymore, and I intend to do it rudely. Before they could oppose, he lifted his hand to stop them from saying anything Knowing her, I know she will never give up on us if she knows that there is any hope in this relationship. But honestly, after today, I don't know if there is any hope. I cannot ask her for time to set things right because I don't know how much time I will need. And I don't want this to be an endless wait for her, for all of you. Taking a minute to compose himself he continued, I intend to be harsh on Sonakshi tomorrow and tell her that there is no hope for us and that I have to ask her to leave, forever.

Please uncle! You have to do this for me. How long can I ask Sona to wait for me? How can I ask her to wait when I don't know if there is anything to wait for? Now getting desperate he urged Please, please. You guys have to help me. You have to do this for me, for Sonakshi. Please.

Bijoy pulled Dev to himself and hugged him tight, let him cry. Then patting his back, he said Ok. We will do it. We will help Sona through this. But know this, whether you and Sona get back together or not, you have become a son to me. Anytime you need me, I will be there for you. We will be there for you. Don't worry. We will manage Sona. You take care of your mother and your family for now.

Nodding at each other, they parted ways. They had a long night and a longer day ahead of them. Steeling their hearts against the impending doom, they walked back with determination!

Fits perfectly to the real Dev. We were so shocked at his curt and cold dismissal of Sonakshi.. it doesn't seem like our Dev at all. But this is so poignant too. Thanks Priti for writing this ❤️

I know right.. he is so successfully and all. I just felt like he will make more intelligent decisions. Although I know you cannot judge anyone's emotional reactions, I feel like he could have done something else to maintain his character.

Thanks. I agree. Dev seems to have been a slightly introvertish and rude kind of guy in the beginning, and after he met Sona became an extremely love sick guy. I missed seeing a balanced one in the process. Hence this attempt 😉
