saw the 100 meter swimming (breaststroke) yesterday..USA won Gold and bronze and russian won silver..you should see how motivated those girls looked which shows their confidence level..the bronze one looked happier than the russian who won silver..I mean our athletes along with better facilities really need MORE MOTIVATION to build up their confidence

U know what our sportspersons compete at international level despite all the miseries thrown at them by bureaucracy incompetent sports bodies and perform well against elite sportspersons by sheer will.rest everything is against them

There is a lone rower who qualified from India Dattu bhokanal. Today I heard his story and was speechless. Until 4 yrs ago he didn't knew there was something called Olympics. He hails from a very poor farming family. He raised cattle. Lost his father to bone cancer.. His mom is in coma n he doesn't even know if she would ever recover..or if she did she would even remember him. Despite all these odds he qualified for Olympics and came 3rd in his qualifying race. He now says sadly that if he wins a medal he has no one to share the joy with (referring to his parents) sadly that's what we make our sportspersons feel like. Orphans!!! Not counting the cricketers as they play for BCCI which at least takes good care of their cricketers. Wish all the sports in India had a board like BCCI.

Dipa karmarjar's words resonate in my ears " a sportsman plays for himself but an Olympian always plays for the nation" that is the spirit these guys carry with themselves n people don't spare a second thought before mocking em.💔

^ So true.
Bhokanal didn't qualifySo close.He came 15.
I read.about few sportspersons Rani Rampal,Dutee Chand all hail from poor family. They don't even get the nutritious food required for sportsperson.Training,Sports gear all are costly affairs. They really Steve hard to make the dreams come true but sadly they get to settle with some government job in sports quota , just because they do not get what is required. The least we could do is encourage them.

And people like De should keep their mouth shut or her hands tied in this case for the benefit of mankind.

Dattu came 4th. Lost out on 3rd spot by mere 7 SEC's only top 3 qualify for the semi finals. But hatsoff to his spirit and hatsoff to the Indian army who nurtured this young man. Am sure he'll do well the next time and hopefully will have many other compatriots joining him on the big stage.
I am glad that GOI at least give them sports quota jobs. Something is better than nothing. But hope cricketers do not get the quota benefit. As i heard BCCI gives handsome pensions to all the cricketers..and stars of course earn enough to feed their 21 generations aram se.
