Are the numbers which bollywood movies are earning today are a real measure of success of a movie?

The movie which has a big superstar like Sk, SRK. Aamir, Akshay, HR n others is always priced above rs 300 in multiplexes compared to low budget movies I got a ticket Sanam Teri Kasam which was a beautiful love story for rs. 100 only compared to Sanam re which was selling in the same week for rs. 200 which was just a crap and sanam teri kasam flopped and people still paid rs. 200 to watch a crap like sanam re.

I can here explain they are not and the earnings which a blockbuster movie make is not a genuine earning. Bcoz it doen't really shows how many people went for the movie it only shows how much people spent on it.

Suppose if sanam re earns 50crs it would mean 25 lac people watched the film on an average

and if sanam teri kasam earns 25crs it would also mean 25 lac people watched the film on an average. But still movies like Sanam Re becomes a hit because of more earnings and movies like Sanam Teri Kasam flop only because of price difference.

So I feel instead of the numbers earned shouldn't the real criteria of the film to be judged should be number of tickets actually sold?

I am no box office guru, but the bigger the star the higher the price. It is what people are willing to pay. For instance most desi movies in the US are around $10 in my theater, but Kabaali the Rajni movie was $25. It hd sold out shows in 2 hours pre sold. It is the highest opener in the US or some such statistic but I am kind of sure PK sold more tickets. Still if people are willing to pay $25 dollars for someone vs $10 for another especially in the age of piracy when every movie is a DL away, that is how we measure success, by the amount collected, not by screens and tickets sold.

that's my point people pay much higher price than wht the ticket should have been priced and this is how a film earns money I mean can't we count the number of tickets sold that would lead us to people who were actually seeing the movie

No, all movies are not created equal. You are looking at numbers because higher the ticket higher the star power. Most movies are sold on a name. So the distributors pay extra, theater pays extra, star gets paid bucket load and they spend on marketing more all because we have different values associated based on star power. So there are movies I will DL, some I will buy on streaming, others I will go to the theater and pay whatever they charge if it is my favorite star. All because I too agree my favorite star is worth that much. It is simply based on supply and demand like anything else. The higher the demand, higher the price.
