There are two issues. Health and Looks

If we are talking in context of looks then it is choice of people if they are okay with their looks or not, If they are fine with overweight then that is okay. No need to tell them anything

If we are talking in context of health then it is true that obese people are more likely to get different problems specially metabolic issues. There exercise, being active is important even if it does not lead to too much weight reduction.

I do not support extra fees for being obese. They can have S L XL seats and u can reserve those.

No need to charge more.

Hippo does not support discrimination at all. Not on looks, race, religion, ethnicity, cast, anything, Period. To me every person should be equally and fairly treated under uniform set of rules even if they are not equal as in fat and slim

Edit: now let me start my day looking at those 2 beauties.

They love their double MAC or quarter pound cheese burger in Texas. Everything in Texas is extra large...😆

Using clothing size. People who do not fit into their airline seat are not XL or even XXL either. They typically are XXXL and larger.

An over sized seat would replace two regular sized seats. That means 1 oversize seat would cost the same as 2 regular seats. That is no different from proposing that large people buy an extra seat.

However, that will not happen. Using US Data: Only 0.5% of US population flies in a day. Morbidly Obese rate in USA only 6%. Morbidly obese people are less likely to travel in the first place. So the probability of a morbidly obese person flying in a flight is low. A regular sized person will not want to pay extra for a seat. That means the cost of the larger seat will be passed on to everyone else. So basically everyone else pays more to subsidize the larger seat. That I believe is unfair on the average Joe's who make majority of the flying population.

I agree that airlines are greedy. They have made seats smaller and more cramped in the past decade to the point of being ridiculous. There should be laws mandating that an airline seat comfortably seat 38" waist and a height of 6'.

In bus there are special seats for disabled. When a disabled boards the bus stops and it takes so many more minutes and many get late to work. Then their wheel chair takes extra space and driver has to fold 4 seats. In same manner strollers take a lot of space as well.

In developing countries we subsidize poor by paying indirect taxes.

There are so many examples where it is unfair to common person. But they do it for good reason.

Obesity is not always the fault of an individual. Even if they eat more it is not like they are more greedy for food. It is their metabolic need.

Hippo also gets the point of most sacrificing for few. But situation where one needs special treatment can happen to everyone or could happen to everyone at some point in their lives and there we do not want others to came up with same reasoning. It is for that possibility that most people are considerate and I do not think would mind paying little extra if it costs extra.

So overall I would still say that good solution is to have some seats reserved for large size people. As you said chances of very XXXL is slim anyway. So it would help people like our own IF member Boss to fit in nicely and not get squeezed lol.

had to google it's meaning 🤣

Nargis is a rare flower that blooms once in many, many years. And even that flower has to mourn its woeful fate for thousands of years before an appreciator of its beauty is born.
