Neeru on DD's comedy show

Bajwa tries her hand at tickling the viewers funny bone for the first time

Neeru Bajwa has been in news recently for her dancing prowess seen in Nach Baliye. Now, she will also be seen in a comedy serial, Hari Mirchi Laal Mirchi on Doordarshan. An elated Neeru says, "This is the first time I will be handling comedy. I find it challenging. In fact this is the most difficult role I am playing."

So what have the preparations been like? "Well nothing in particular. I just go to the sets with a lot of energy," she says. But didn't the channel's not-so-happening image deter her from doing the serial? Her response is immediate and she says, "It has a much better reach in terms of viewers."

Neeru adds, "Samvad (the production house behind the serial) is a very good production house. They pay me on time which is very important. Amit and I are a young couple and we have to buy a house. So we work hard and save money."

Producer Rakesh Chowdhary (under the banner Samvad) who is known for making topical serials like Chunauti, Mujrim Hazir, Virasat, Ashiana, Intezaar Aur Sahi, Baazar, and Shikwah says, "After Bante Bighadte and Aisa Bhi Hota Hai, this is the third comedy serial I am making. I agree I have mostly made issue- based serials. But I believe there is no harm in trying a different genre."

Talking about the title of the show, Chowdhary says, "I had a maid in my house almost two decades ago who kept singing this song 'Hari Mirchi Lal Mirchi'. Since the story is about a man trapped between his two wives, I thought the title was apt. The mirchis (chillies) symbolise the two wives."
