Hey guys...
I am really excited to share this with you all and I hope those on this forum who have read valmiki Ramayan add to this or give their views.

I'm an active member on quora and yesterday I saw a question in mythology that why uttar kand was added later to valmiki Ramayan. There were many answers but one was in great detail. The author talked about yudha kand and it's ending. He emphasised that towards the end of yudha kand valmiki's language makes it clear that he's finishing the epic with him talking about the Ram rajya and how Ram continued to rule for thousands of years, aided by his "sons", brothers and relatives. Last shlok says, who so ever repeats this epic shall find peace and let glory of lord vishnu ever increase.
Before this he also says, there are no robberies, no wrong, no son dies before his father.

The language seems to be giving the epic a happily ever after end.
And he even gave an online link which I visited and actually read the last few shlok translations.

What more he detailed was that how scholars have found a difference in language between all other kands and this one inferring that uttar kand was written much later may be about 2 centuries.

As for uttar kand itself there are certain contradictions. It involves shloks which mention lord krishn which is weird coz we know he came later. Then yudha kand stated that no son died before his father. But uttar kand has another story quite controversial like Sitaji's exile where a son dies before his father.

One more contradiction, in uttar kand it states ravan had once killed a messenger of kuber. But when Hanuman was in Lanka vibhishan stops ravan from killing him, saying that never have they ever treated a messenger like this, and that it's wrong. Now kuber incident chronologically happened much much before in the story. Had he really been killed vibhishan couldn't have said that.

Just wanted to share this knowledge with u guys.

Love reading the back stories behind the mythology tales.

I always thought Tulsidas written Ramayan was more like a serene poetry making us see the godliness of Ram, Lakshman and Sita. Whereas, Valmiki Ramayan was more factual, making us see the more human version of Ram, Lakshman and Sita.

I give more credence to Valmiki Ramayan because, apart from being written as-is by the original author, we see more, relatable human emotions in the tale.

very nice piece of info..TFS...
@LadyMcBeth: The Godly stature to Ram and Sita is indeed given by Tulsidas in Ramcharitmanas and why Indian society see them as Gods because of Ramcharitmanas as due to being in Hindi, the epic reached the masses, which was not the case for Valmiki Ramayan. But even today, when so many versions are present for the epic, it is Valmiki Ramayan that is considered as the most authentic source.

@attubaby - WORD!

Without meaning to offend anyone's sensibilities, IMHO, every other version other than Valmiki Ramayan is more of an interpretation of the author. Just like Bhagvad Gita has so many interpretations. But the original one narrated by Maharishi Vyas and written by Lord Ganesh is the most genuine one.

Nothing wrong in interpretations, because like you said, that's how these tales to reach the masses. They key here is to keep an open mind. 😊
