Nice update, like the science when guard misunderstand Rudra as milkman, describe punishment given by Rudta. I also think that now Rudra will become over protective.
CHAPTER 58
Later that day, Maithili sang to her little girl as she removed the dried clothes from the terrace. "Sumo coming!" the girl shouted observing a dark SUV approaching the haveli. She clapped happily that her Kakasa and new Kakisa were visiting. She would have people to play with her now.
Maithili looked at the distance, it wasn't Sumer's car. She raced downstairs, her daughter at her tail. Dilsher folded his newspaper when he saw the commotion. The workers halted their pounding. The door opened with violence. Mohini bit her lip to hold her tongue. Her nephew had returned in his usual tempestuous fashion.
Rudra was about to step in when Geethanjali stopped him. She saw Maithili, "Beta, bring the aarti thal." Maithili nodded courteously. Mohini asked her husband if her nephew had won a medal again. "Something like that Mohiniji. I'll explain in a minute," came the reply. Once they were welcomed back ceremoniously, Paro grabbed one of the smaller bags and rushed to the room. Rudra took the rest from his men and followed.
"VK, now tell me, what's with the ceremony?" Dilsher asked once they were seated in the living room. VK smiled and announced, "We are going to be grandparents!" Mohini's face turned white with shock, chooti duakumari was on the way or worse chote angarkumar. Dilsher was dumbstruck. His son was going to be a father. Maithili with tears in her eyes turned away. Her mother-in-law stopped her, "Bring some sweets and sherbet."
In her room, Paro smiled to herself as she placed her bag on her bed. She felt his hands on her belly. "You are not wearing your waist chain," he observed. She nodded. She had something far more special adorning her now. "Are you happy, Rudra?" she asked. Every single moment since they were wed was filled with Joy. What more could a man want, he asked. "I meant about the baby?" she asked again. He let her go and she turned around with a frown.
He knew she was concerned about his silence towards impending fatherhood. He was too confused with the pride, joy, anxiety and worry bogging his mind constantly. He didn't want to stress his pregnant wife about it. "I'm a little scared but I have nine months to get used to the idea.Besides, with you by my side, I can do anything. You made me a good son, brother, friend and husband. I'm sure I can do this too" he said. She pecked his cheeks fondly. She knew he would come around to being a father eventually, even if he couldn't say the word right now.
"Congrats bhabhisa!" Sunheri shouted as she came in and hugged Paro. Rudra stepped back giving the two some space. "After the day I had, this news just made my day. But I can't understand one thing. Your Maasiji told me you both rushed in coyly. And here you both are celebrating privately," she teased. Paro turned red like the roses she loved so much. Rudra ducked into the bathroom. Teasing from his youngest cousin was not more than what he could handle at this time. Sunheri giggled, "Its okay. I won't tell anyone. But you should come out soon. Everyone is waiting for you," she said and went on her merry way.
When they returned to the drawing room, Rudra found his aunt in quiet contemplation as the Singhs sipped their tea. While the rest of them got up and congratulated the parents-to-be she stood still. "Mohini," her husband nudged her to say something nice on this happy occasion. "From the time Parvati baisa has come into this family, I have never imposed on her like I did with Maithili. She always had the freedom to do as she pleases and follow her heart. Against my better judgement, I let her continue her work outside the walls of this haveli. Now that will change," she said.
Geethanjali looked at her husband who held his hand out, asking her to wait. It was best to for the lady to finish her say before jumping the gun. Dilsher looked at Rudra who was ready to fight for his wife. His glance moved to the young lady who had brought him such joy. Mohini walked up to the confused woman, "I don't want to be strict to you like I was before. But you are carrying the Ranavat heir in your womb, I want utmost care to be taken till he or she is laughing about with Shanti in this aangan. Ask your dear sister, she will tell you. How simple it is to conceive a child and how hard it is to hold on to that life," she pointed out.
Maithili's head lowered in shame as she felt all eyes on her. He husband weaved his fingers through hers. It wasn't her fault. Fate had planned for them to find parenthood in a more unusual way. "Kakisa!" Rudra growled aware that this conversation is heading to dangerous territory. She simply tugged her pallu and continued undettered. This was important. Her concerns were within reason even if the others don't see it. "Rudra Banna, I know you don't see anything other than your wife's happiness. I'm not against that. But the baby will suffer, if she is tottering about all over Rajasthan in your BSD jeep," she pointed out.
Geethanjali caught her drift, "That is true. Those vehicles are built for soldiers not for pregnant women. Paro should avoid it for the next few months." Rudra crossed his arms in annoyance. How could they say that his jeep wasn't safe for his Paro? It had been a big part of their life. "What else will she do? She can't exert herself with household work like she will end up doing just to keep busy," Rudra shouted. He didn't know much about pregnancies, but he was certain that they shouldn't strain themselves. The general pointed out to his wife how the doctors had advised her to take things easy before Vicky was born. She had even gone back to her mother's house so that she can relax during the final trimester.
"No Bade saab. She won't have to do anything more than what she wants. She can do small chores or even sit around with her needle work all day long if that is what she wants. I will hire someone to take care of the house and kitchen so that Maithili will be free to watch over Parvati. But she is not to go out of this haveli," Mohini insisted. Everyone agreed reluctantly.
"But my exams," Paro asked anxious about her finals at the end of the month. She had been working so hard for it. "Beendini, have you applied for IAS exams and forgotten to tell us?" Mohini questioned. Paro looked away. "There is need for you go all the way for your classes. You should manage yourself or get help here. If you don't want to bother Rudra with your studies, Sunheri can help you," she suggested. Sunheri brightened at that thought. "Or if you have any doubts you can ask your tutor to come home, he offered to didn't he, at the party?" she reminded. The general's glance met his major's. This was a development neither of them were aware of.
"Do you have anything to add Bapusa?" Ranavat asked his son. Rudra turned pale. That's what the baby will call him, the one who is making his jeep dangerous for his Paro, the one who needs her to be held in house arrest, the one who will call him Ranavat like he does. "Rudra," his wife's soft voice cooed to him. He shook his head, the Singhs and the elder Ranavats probably knew what was best. Paro however was overwhelmed. She didn't expect a little baby to be so complicated. She rested her head on Rudra's shoulder. Her aunt noticed the fatigue in her eyes, "Beta, you should rest. We will get going." The Singhs bid them good bye and she was escorted to her room.
Later as she lay on her bed and caressed her soft stomach. Rudra had left sometime when she was asleep. There was a platter of fruits and a flask next to it. She scrunched her nose when she realised it was milk. She wasn't going to drink it under any circumstance. "You are as small as a peanut but already have this house up in a storm. Kakisa doesn't like weather trouble. Don't test her like your Bapusa does," she told her unborn child.
She remembered how excited everyone was and smiled. Sunheri and Shanti were already picking out names. Bapusa had left to the Mandir. Kakisa had sent Kakosa to the market with a long list. Samrat had been dispatched to find a maid to help around the house. And Jeeja, she had tears around her eyes, ever since she came home. Then she remembered. Samrat bhaisa held her hand soothingly earlier. Their miscarriage had been brought up. She got up with a start. This must be so hard for them.
She ran immediately to her sister's room. Maithili opened as soon as she heard the knock. "Paro, what happened? You look pale. Do you feel faint? Did you eat anything? I should have waited with you like devarsa suggested. Come sit," she said escorting her to the chair her husband got up from. She pushed her fringes behind her ear and sipped on the water that was offered to her. "I needed to talk you. Both of you," she said calming her breath. They both exchanged glances. "You could have just called us, we would have come. I couldn't find this and called Maithili here" Samrat said as he put his file away.
She shook her head, that wasn't necessary. She didn't need someone to hover around all the time. They all had other things to attend to. "I'm sorry Jeeja. In my excitement, I forgot how this will bring bitter memories for you both. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings," she apologised. Maithili angrily silenced her, "Chup! You have been my little sister from the day you first stepped into this haveli. Our relationship is older and dearer than the one you have with Rudra. How can you think that I will be hurt by seeing your happiness?" she scolded.
Paro looked down ashamed. Samrat rubbed his wife's shoulders relaxing her, "Maithili is right. We are both thrilled for you and ourselves too. Now we will become someone's Kakasa and Kakisa." His wife shook her head, "No, Paro's child can call you Kakasa if you want. But my sister's son will call me Maasi," she insisted.
Samrat remembered how his mother insisted that she was Rudra's Kaki never Maasi, severing the ties she had with Mala. History wouldn't repeat in this household. "Fine, but Saalisa has to listen to our advice. Our memories may be bitter but they come with a wealth of wisdom. Nobody knows more about babies in this haveli than us," he said with a soft smile. Paro hugged her sister. She was so glad that she had their support.Originally posted by: RitikaGarg8
