Chapter 17

Khushi woke up late next day. She was very tired due to the event. She didn't feel like going to office.

Shyam came to see why Khushi was not ready at the gate today.

"Khushi?! You are not ready yet?!! Come on! Get ready soon, else we will be late!!"

"I am very tired Shyam... Mann nahi kar raha yaar office aane ka... I am too tired to drive!!"

"Arey yaar, itni hi problem hai, toh you can come with me today" offered Shyam.

Khushi was reluctant but her parents and Dadi agreed. So Khushi decided to go with Shyam.

She got ready quickly, took her satchel and come out. Shyam was waiting for her near the gate.

"Your satchel looks full and heavy today... Itna kya liya hai aaj??? Extra lunch box??" teased Shyam.

"No yaar, actually Arnav Sir ke kapde hain... Shirt and coat... That's why the satchel has bulged out!!" told Khushi.

"Arnav Sir's clothes?!! With you?!" Shyam was surprised. "Ahem, ahem... chakkar kya hai?!" he whispered, teasing Khushi. What's up with you both?

"Stop it yaar Shyam!!" replied Khushi, "Ek toh mujhe tension aa raha hai...aur tumhein mazaak soojh raha hai?!! Don't know what will happen when I go to return these..." said Khushi worried.

"Are you sure you are gonna return this to Arnav Sir?... I mean, you can give it to someone else and tell him or her to give these to Arnav Sir..." suggested Shyam.

"That can be done, but if something happens to the clothes or they go missing, Arnav Sir will blame me!!! Because I made him change that day..." said Khushi. "I have to return these myself!"

"Hmmm... I think you are right!" agreed Shyam.

"So we first go to Arnav Sir's residence and then to office...!" said Khushi.

"What?!! Why are we going to Arnav Sir's place?!!! Office mein bhi toh de sakti ho!!" said Shyam. You can return the clothes in office as well!

"I don't want to get insulted in front of so many people at the office... So better we go to his place..." said Khushi.

Khushi and Shyam left. On the way, Khushi called Anjali to tell her not to wait for them as they will directly be coming to the office.

They reached the place - the Raizada Mansion!! Shyam parked his bike outside the huge gate.

"Shyam, you wait here, I will return in a few minutes...!"

"Okay..." said Shyam, "All the best!!"

"Thanks Shyam! I need that!!" said Khushi as she walked towards the gate.

Khushi was awestruck looking at the palace-like building in front of her. She stood at the gate admiring the beauty of the place, when one of the watchmen walked to her.

"What do you want Ma'am?" he asked.

"I wish to see Arnav Sir..." said Khushi, her heart beating faster every moment.

"Your name please?" asked the watchman.

"Khushi... Khushi Kumari Gupta" replied Khushi.

"Please wait here..." he said as he went to his cabin and called someone.

Khushi could hardly hear what the watchman spoke. She became nervous.

After the call, the watchman came to Khushi, "Aayiye Madam!" he said leading her inside the gate.

As Khushi walked towards the building on the pathway through the garden, she became more and more nervous. She was so scared as probably never before.

"Don't know what's gonna happen..." she thought.

The watchman led her to a room beside the house and left her there.

"Please have a seat, Arnav Saab will be here shortly..."

Khushi sat there on the couch. She looked around the room. It seemed like study study room. More of a meeting room it was.

Every moment passing by seemed so long. After what seemed half-an-hour, Khushi checked her watch and was surprised to see that only five minutes had passed!!

Khushi heard some footsteps coming her way. She missed a beat. She turned to see who it was. She just stood up seeing Arnav in front.

Arnav too was surprised to see her here.

"How are you here?" he asked gently.

Even those gentle words of his made Khushi shiver.

"S..S..Sir... woh..." Khushi didn't complete. She just opened her satchel and took out the bag containing the clothes. Without saying anything, she just kept the bag on the table.

Arnav just observed. He was confused.

"What is this?"

"A...Aap ke kapde hain Sir..." said Khushi. Arnav remembered he had forgotten them in the washroom last night. Khushi continued, "I didn't get them cleaned..."

"Khushi!" said Arnav.

Khushi trembled. "S...sorry Sir... I..." Arnav interrupted her.

"Khushi! Relax..." said Arnav. "Mujhe pata nahi tha tum mujhse itni darti ho..." he said sadly. I didn't know you are so scared of me.

Khushi just kept looking downwards.

"I know, all this is my fault..." said Arnav, "bohot takleef di hai na maine tumhein... I have troubled you a lot... Bina kisi wajah tumhein daanta... I know I am a very bad person..."

Khushi was shocked to hear Arnav say all this.

Arnav continued, "I am really sorry Khushi, I have hurt you a lot... I am sorry..."

Khushi couldn't bear more of it... "Please don't say Sorry Sir... please..."

Arnav just stared at the floor...

"Main kya karun...? Mujhe gussa bohot jaldi aa jaata hai... Jo zindagi ne mujhe dikhaya hai, usay main kabhi bhool nahi paaunga, kabhi nahi!! I will never be able to forget all that happened... I am sorry for my behaviour... But I can't help it..." What should I do? I am short-tempered. I would never be able to forget what life has had me through, never!

Khushi felt sorry for Arnav. "I understand Sir,"she said, "Sometimes our past experiences make us believe something strongly... Main jaanti hoon Sir... there are many tensions and stresses in life, and they do affect our behaviour. Please don't appologize Sir, I can understand what you are going through..."

"No, you will never understand what I am going through... tum kabhi nahi samjhogi main kinn haalaaton se guzra hoon... koi nahi samajh sakta... No one can understand..."

Khushi's eyes watered as she recalled what Aman had told her.

There was silence. Khushi didn't know what to say. She just stood at her place looking at Arnav, a very different Arnav from what she had seen till today.

Arnav broke the silence, "By the way, the event was very good" said he still very serious.

Khushi was very very happy. She almost jumped at her place. "Thank you Sir! Thank you so much!!" she said, her face gleaming with happiness.

Arnav smiled at her innocence. He was glad seeing her happy.

"I want the final reports as soon as possible..." he said.

"Yes Sir...!" said Khushi.

Arnav wanted to ask her something but hesitated. Khushi noticed that, but remained silent.

Finally Arnav spoke, "Toh ab tum resign toh nahi karogi na??" Now you won't resign, right? Arnav's guilt was killing him inside.

Khushi was shocked. "Resign?!!! You wanted me to resign?!!" she asked, shocked.

"No!" Arnav almost cried. He was confused too. "Aman was saying yesterday, that you were gonna resign..."

"No no! Why would I leave this job! This is my dream company!!" said Khushi clearing Arnav's doubt. "Aman Sir ne aise hi kaha hoga..."

"Thank you" said Arnav, relieved.

There was silence for a few moments.

"Toh office chalein?" asked Arnav. Let's leave for office.

Khushi checked her watch at once... "Oh no!!" she thought.

She looked at Arnav with pleading eyes.

"What happened?" asked Arnav.

"Late ho gaya..." she said, worried. It's already late!

"Don't worry, I won't scold you!" said Arnav and turned to leave.

Khushi followed behind him. Both simultaneously held the handle to open the door. Arnav's hand was on Khushi's. On realising this, Arnav withdrew his hand at once. And Khushi too. Both waited for the other to pull the door.

Just then, Nilima entered in and was surprised to see Arnav and Khushi staring into each other's eyes.

"Arnav," said Nilima, and both were embarrassed. "Please come with me for a moment..."

The three came out of the room.

"You wait here, I will be back in a couple of minutes..." Arnav told Khushi and went in with Nilima.

Akash and Payal noticed Khushi. They looked at each other and smiled. They walked to Khushi.

"You are Khushi, right?" asked Akash.

"Yes!" replied Khushi with a smile.

"Hello, I am Akash, Arnav's elder brother" Akash introduced himself and shook hands with Khushi. "And this is my wife, Payal!"

Both smiled.

"The event was fantastic Khushi!!" said Akash.

"Thank you Sir!" replied Khushi.

Payal gestured Akash to get to know why Khushi was here. Akash nodded at her.

"Umm, so... Have you come here to give reports to Arnav??" he asked, as normally as he could.

"No, actually Arnav Sir had left his shirt and coat at the event yesterday.."

"Oh achha achha..." said Payal.

Just then Arnav came there.

"Okay then, you must be getting late for office..." said Payal noticing Arnav.

"Good day...!" said Akash and both went inside.

"By the way... You look great in T-Shirt, Sir!" said Khushi, smiling.

Arnav threw an angry glance at her and her smile faded away. "Laad Governor!!" she thought.

"Come..." said Arnav as he moved towards his car.

"Thank you Sir, but I will go on my own..." said Khushi.

"Bike ka problem hai na, leave your bike here and take it while going back home...!" suggested Arnav.

"No Sir, I haven't brought my bike today..." said Khushi.

"Then what's the problem?" he asked, confused. "Oh...! Dont worry, I won't eat you.."

"Nahi Sir, it's not that..."

"What's the problem then?"

"Sir, actually Shyam is waiting outside for me..."

"Shyam?!"

"Sir, actually I was very tired and didn't want to drive. So I came with Shyam. He stays next to me! So it is convenient for both of us."

Arnav didn't say anything.

"Sir, I should go now..." said Khushi and left.

Arnav clenched his jaws as he saw Khushi sit behind Shyam on the bike.

Akash and Payal noticed this from a distance.
