- If Vidya can beat Sridevi with Kahaani, what makes you think she can't beat Sonam in Kahaani 2?

- "K-jo's heroines" have won the award multiple times (Kajol '99, '02, '11)

- Anushka + Parineeti are also Filmfare darlings and have good projects coming up

- Sonakshi was robbed in 2013, so maybe they'll make up for it with Akira

My critical eye's assessment on why her performance was not uniformly good: 😉

Initial scenes of her celebrating with family and friends - her dialogue delivery was annoying, especially those Rajesh Khanna lines punctuated with her hyena smile. Emotionless. 😕
The first scene where her husband has arguments in the kitchen, she just stands there like a Redwood tree. 🤔 I couldn't feel her embarrassment or hurt.
Sounds monotonous as if a 5th grader is reading a letter to her family about her husband's karnamey. No modulation whatsoever. No pain and dejection.
When Khalil asks her to sing, she tries to cry in the beginning(though it seemed like she was going to burst into fits of hysterical laughter anytime 😕)... the expressions were weird af and I felt like chuckling. She was BAD... yes, as the song went along she got slightly better. but that was a scene.

Granted she was otherwise effective in the flight scenes... but certainly NOT consistent and will fail to tug a critical Jury's heart.

So yeah, the award belongs to some other talented actress worth her salt.

And, YES - Any other competent rival actress would have aced NEERJA just as well, even more with a wholesome performance.

It's certainly a breakthrough performance from her - but nothing special or memorable. That's all.

thanks to your post i went searching .. lo & behold! Here it was. 😲

& i just saw a poll was opened on Sonam Kapoor in Neerja vs Priyanka Chopra in Mary Kom too. That is quite early, considering we are not even 6 months in 2016 & there is no real buzz about awards season yet! Man, iam loving the Neerja tamasha as i call it. It has potential to be epic🥳
