Long time ago there used to live in a village by a dense forest a young woodcutter called Jai Walia. He was married to a pretty village lass called Banidevi. She was very learned of all the Vedas and Shastras (which was not surprising since she came from the learned Brahmin Dixit clan) and had all virtues except that she was rather prone to snooping and poking her nose into matters which were none of her business. One day Banidevi insisted that her hubby take her out into the forest. JW strongly resisted as he feared that his wife with her jasoosi instinct may get both of them into trouble. However as she insisted JW reluctantly agreed on the condition that she would not go out investigating things on her own.
While in the wood, they came across a huge, dark and mysterious cave and naturally Banidevi's curiosity was triggerred off. "I want to explore the cave, Walia mahodaya" (Author's Note: Sadly this Banidevi too was rather disinclined to call her hubby by his Hindu name ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜) she said. JW demurred saying that there could be wild animals or evil spirits inside but Banidevi whose curiosity was too badly inflamed insisted on going in. JW finally gave in observing that as her husband it was his duty to accompany and protect his wife.
They had hardly gone in when Banidevi stepped upon a sleeping lion, who woke up with a roar and gave chase. JW and Banidevi ran for their lives. Then suddenly Banidevi remembered that she had read in one of the shastras that lions ran faster than men. She cried out "Walia Mahodaya stop!!! there is no point in running, the shastras tell us that men cannot outrun lions. Let us utilise these last few moments to thank our Creator for the life he gave us"
JW took a look back and said "I have not read the shastras but I do know that I cannot run faster than that lion. But I can run faster than you!!!" and saying that he took off. 😉😉😉
Rgds,
