Dance dhamaka

Queenie

Shiamak Davar has done us proud. Gone are the days, when productions in India were tacky and 'make-do' ones. Shiamak has set a high benchmark for others to compete with, and thank God, the audience gets to see much better shows.

In his show 'I believe, I can and I will', he was extremely impressive with his choice of music too. From rock to retro, from pop to Bollywood, he did it all. The costumes and sets were spectacular and took me completely by surprise. The choreography had great precision. His philosophy, based on "I believe, I can and I will", was beautifully manifested through dramatic dhamaka, as well, as tear-jerking dance movements.

A show like this, which has all the masala of Bollywood, the Indian rural exotica, soul searching and thought provoking energy, should, I imagine do really well on the Broadway. Shiamak should give this a thought.

Big, fat weddings

On an auspicious day, there can be several weddings, my friends and I, had to attend Dr Bindu's (dermatologist) daughter's wedding. It seems, on that night, at Turf Club, there was more than one wedding. We, of course, unknowingly attended the wrong one! On entering, and seeing the multi-coloured chandeliers, I did wonder if I was in the correct wedding. The funny thing was that when we asked a number of guests whose wedding it was, a lot of them did not know.

I wondered if many had just walked in to enjoy the festivity without an invitation. The information desk at the entrance finally helped us. Thank God, we had not made our way in. On hurrying out, after discovering our plight, we met the beaming bride. Oops! She requested us to help her fix her 'pallu.' My friend Rhea ran to her rescue. I had to stop her, reminding her we had gate-crashed. The experience made me smile later, when I realised that in Indian weddings, with vast joint families, many people just walk in, obviously unquestioned.

PR-eposterous!

Preposterous allegations were made against the 'sexiest man in Asia,' about promoting films on cricket grounds. Shah Rukh truly loves the sport, and enjoys talking to his son Aryan about it. Sports in movies may be the new mantra in Bollywood, but surely this successful superstar does not need to be seen watching cricket, to promote his movies. The man is allowed to have his interests. Next, they will say something ridicules like Rahul Gandhi, is watching cricket to promote himself in politics. Let's give Shah Rukh a break!
