Characters
Ram, the Maryada Purushottam or the Ideal Man, needs no introduction. He is regarded as the seventh and of the most popular avatar of Lord Vishnu. Born to Kaushlaya and Dashrath, with the ultimate aim to end Adharma on Earth, he is revered his never-ending compassion, courage and devotion to religious values and duties.
Sita, or popularly known as Vaidehi, Janaki or Bhoomija, is the consort of god Ram and an avatar of Goddess Lakshmi. She is the daughter of earth goddess Bhoomi, adopted by Rajarishi Janak. She is paragon of all spousal and feminine values in Hindu women, and is an epitome of sacrifice, courage and purity.
Ravan, was the demon king of Lanka, he was a great devotee of Shiva besides being a great scholar. He received from Shiva that he couldn't be killed by gods, demons or spirits after doing a severe penance for thousand years. He was finally killed by Lord Ram.
Dasharath was the King of Ayodhaya and a descendent of the Ishvaku dynasty. He had three wifes- Kaushalya, Kaikeyi and Sumitra. He was the father of the Rama, Bharat, Lakshman and Shatrughan, but he was very fond of Ram, who was his life.
Kaushlaya was the eldest queen of Maharaja Dashrath and the mother of Ram. She was the princess of Kosala kingdom and was known for her loving, caring and sacrificing nature.
Kaikeyi was the favourite and the most beautiful queen of Dashrath, who belonged to the Kekeya kingdom. She was Bharat's mother but she loved Ram more than her own son.
Sumitra, was the youngest queen of Dashrath and the mother of twins, Lakshman and Shatrughan. She belonged to the kingdom of Kashi and was known to be very intelligent and caring who taught her sons to always be devoted towards their elder brothers.
Rajarishi Janak was the king of Videha who had found Sita while ploughing the field and raised her as his own daughter. Besides being a brave king he was also well-versed in shahtras and vedas as any rishi.
Lakshman, born to Sumitra, was the younger brother of Lord Ram and is considered as an avatar of Sheshnag, the serpent associated with Lord Vishnu. He was a close companion of Rama and is considered as an ideal brother who devoted his life serving his elder brother.
Bharat, was the younger brother of lord Ram, born to kaikeyi and is considered as an avatar of Sudarshana chakra. After Ram, he is as the symbol of dharma and idealism. He was an ideal brother whose love for his brother Ram is well known.
Shatrughna, was the youngest brother of Ram and the twin brother of Lakshman. He was the incarnation of Panchajanya conch. Just like , Lakshman was very devoted to Ram, Shatrughan was equally to his brother, Bharat.
Urmila, was the biological daughter of Rajarishi Janak and Rani Sunaina and the younger sister of Sita. She loved her elder sister very much and was a reflection of her. She married Lakshman and was a devoted wife who always supported him always.
Mandavi, was the elder daughter of King Kushadhwaja, Janak's brother and cousin of Sita. She was married to Bharat.She was a very supportive wife who always helped Bharat in his dilemma. She never wanted to the queen which she thought was Sita's right.
Shrutkirti, was the younger daughter of King Kushadhwaja and a cousin of Sita. She was married to Shatrughan.
Hanuman, also known as Bajrangbali,was an ardent devotee of Lord Ram. He was the son of wind god, Vayu and was known to very powerful. He along with the vanaar sena helped Ram to defeat Ravan.
Shanta, was the daughter of Kaushalya and Dashrath, and the elder sister of Ram, Bharat, Lakshmana and Shatrughan. She was married to Rishyasringa and played a crucial role in the birth of the four brothers.
Maharishi Vashisht was one of the Saptarishis, i.e. great rishis. He was the family priest of the royal family and the guru of the four brothers.
Brahmarishi Vishwamitra was the preceptor of Ram and Lakshman who give them knowledge of the celestial weapons and trains them to kill powerful demons. He also led them to them swayamvara ceremony of princess Sita.
Sugreev,was the younger brother of Vali, whom he succeeded as the ruler of money kingdom ok Kishkindha.He was the son of Sun god, Surya and he along with his monkey army helped Ram to free Sita from the captivity of Ravan.
Vali, was king of Kishkindha, elder brother of Sugreev and the father of Angad.He was killed by Ram.
Angad, was the son of Vali and Tara, he helped Ram to find Sita and defeat Ravan.
Meghnad or Indrajit, was the son of Ravan and the conqueror of Indra Lok, from where he got the name Indrajit.He was considered as the most powerful and only warrior who got the ultimate weapons of the Trimurti. He was ultimately killed by Lakshman.
Surpanakha, was the sister of Ravan whose nose was cut by Lakshman when she tried to kill Sita. In revenge for the insult of sister, Sita was kidnapped by Ravan.
Kumbhakarna was the younger brother of Ravan. Known for his monstrous size and huge appetite, he had a good character, yet he joined the war only for Ravan. He was finally killed by Ram.
Vibhishana, was the younger brother of Ravan who become the king of Lanka after Ravan's death. Despite being a Rakshasa himself, he was of a very noble character.He finally joined the sides of Ram during the war and helped him to defeat Ravan.
Mandodari, was the queen consort of Ravan, the king of Lanka.She was very beautiful, pious and is regarded as one of the Panchakanyas.
Sulochana, was the wife of Meghanada and the daughter of Sheshanaga.She was a very devoted wife who sacrificed her life by committing sati on her husband's funeral pyre.
Kaikesi, was the mother of Ravan and the daughter of Sumali and Tataka,sister of Maricha and Subahu.
Lav and Kush were the sons of Sita and Ram. Kush was the elder and Lav was the younger one. After Lord Ram died, they become the rulers of the Kosala kingdom.
Manthara was the evil maid of queen Kaikeyi who poisoned the mind of the queen against Ram and asked her to make Bharat the king of Ayodhya and send the crown-prince Ram to exile.
