Buddha In A Traffic Jam Receives Massive Protest,Director injured

A few hours prior the screening, a mail was sent by the organizers stating its cancellation as it violates the moral code of conduct during the State elections. Since the news disappointed both the organizers and Agnihotri, they decided to continue the screening in the grounds of Jadavpur University nevertheless. Although a counter-protest was in motion, Vivek Agnihotri decided to play along. And then, when the day finally arrived, all hell broke loose!

Buddha In A Traffic Jam', scheduled to screen on Friday, drew loud protests from various student unions in the campus. Said to be affiliated with the left-leaning organization, FETSU, slogans of "ABVP go back" and "RSS go back" echoed in the campus.

Vivek Agnihotri who had completed the screening in Pune, landed in Kolkata last evening. Once he was all set to reach the campus, large section of students approached his vehicle and yelled protests. The entire incident took an ugly turn when the screening was asked to be stopped in between by the protesters. Having received black flags and ugly slogans, the director realised the incident wasn't going to be a pretty one. Not only was Vivek Agnihotri's car smashed by the students, he was also injured in the process. His tweet asking for help went viral, depicting the graveness of the incident.

So why did the movie receive such a massive protest? Well, for starters, the movie in itself is a campaign against the radical fundamentalism in India. In Agnihotri's words, "It is for the first time in 70-years that somebody has dared to expose the Naxal-academia-intellectuals-media nexus".

In short, he believes, just like how terrorist organizations like ISIS brainwash students to do the unthinkable, several radical professors and political groups brainwash students in the same manner; similar to Kanhaiya Kumar of JNU. The movie is a depiction of how intellectual terrorists are ruining the world like Jihadis.

Since the entire movie in itself is a sensitive matter, protests were foreseen. But the ugly turn it took was least expected. Groping the director to cause him injury is simply intolerable and it goes on to showcase the intolerance level our country has!
