Rape and Suhaag Raat are not interchangeable

For gods sake, I'm normally positive but TeI is really trying my patience this week.

This episode pissed me off (there were some good stuff) with extreme lack of logic and story line direction (i knw i shouldn't look for logic and I don't but these are expecting me not to even rub 2 brain cells together at this point).

Yuvi threatening Twinkle with rape (I don't expect better from him tbh and I'm not that much bothered that he did) is digestable but the way the idea of potential rape is being in this storyline is beyond disgusting. It's not a light topic and some petty revenge is not the answer. Twinkle staying with a guy who threatens her with rape, sexually harrasses her (unwanted touches especially sexual in nature) and other forms of abuse just to teach him a lesson doesn't make sense.

Everyone minus Yuvi and his mother are out of character and their intellectuality has been reduced to nothing so that this joke of a storyline can take place.

The divorce happened and apparently now the law takes it as proof (i can swallow that but with difficulty) and I thought we were finally going to get an exciting storyline of Twinj weathering this storm together.

Nope, i just get rape and other forms of abuse being treated as a joke. Yuvi threatens her with suhaag raat infront everyone and they all plot some petty revenge while laughing and calling suhaag raat.

Atleast, call it what it is. Rape not suhaag raat and Twinj's family shouldn't be taking it this lightly. People already don't believe marital rape can happen and this show is refusing to differentiate between rape and suhaag raat.

There's a limit man and I'm pissed so sorry for long rant.

On another note, which partner stays quiet and lets their significant partner get arrested that easily. Twinj deserve a better storyline and their chemistry and the development of their relationship is being wasted.

You want to show Kunj getting arrested, okay. But I want to see Twinkle fighting for him even if she loses, I want to see some passion so that I can be on the edge of my seat to see them reunited. This whole storyline lacks emotions apart from the time Twinkle broke down post 'marriage' and deserves a better treatment.

Conceptually it's not bad but it's failing to get me excited and emotionally engaged 95% of the time.

i really enjoyed the episode today. It was hilarious but mostly because i don't try to see logic or any sense of morale in tv shows.
But i completely agree with what you said. Everyone except the luthras are so out of character. Indeed the episode was hilarious but it shouldn't have been. There is a lot of loopholes in the story which i am ignoring because i enjoy twinj so much. But blackmailing on the pretext of rape encoding into suhagraat is not cool.

I agree that marital rape is not a joke and its sad that even till date, it's given less importance as compared to rape outside marriage. I've watched shows before where the girl gets raped and then is married off to her rapist only for them to fall in love in the end. So, I stopped being affected by TV a long time ago. Quite honestly, the basis of Twinkle and Kunj's relationship also started off on an attempted rape allegation so it was all effed up from the start.

As far as the characters are concerned, I think this track is about trusting in Twinkle's decisions and although they may not approve of her methods, they will continue to provide their support. Kunj's silence speaks more about his discomfort and disapproval than words could have conveyed but he's left it up to Twinkle to lead the way for now. My heart actually hurts for him because seeing some other psycho trying on with his wife in front of him is intolerable and I think the rage is building up inside him for the climax of this track (which is soon I hope)

Yuvraj Luthra is your average misogynistic male who thinks that a woman's honour is her biggest weakness. I expected the rape attempts if I'm honest, its not out of his character to do so. It's difficult to understand how everyone around Twinkle can be ok with this but I dont think they have a choice. Yuvi currently has the upper hand here especially with Kunj out of the picture for now. It's sick but its Tv for you. As funny as today's episode was, I was expecting a bit more angst from this track too. I'm hoping tomorrow is a new day and we'll get some deep scenes.

I've realised that whenever we get 'comedy' tracks, they are usually closely followed by some heart breaking story lines so I'd say its a matter of time.

Good post btw, the issues of marital rape are definitely not taken seriously enough in this industry but it's a cycle thats been running successfully for decades now and I doubt its about to change. I wish it was just this issue, but there are so many aspects of TV that irk me so I leave my brain at the doorstep before I watch any episodes.

I think they are making fun of marriage, they are not serious about their divorce but said taking revenge don't know what type of revenge is this , I did not expect yuvle marriage , but it happens, but after that was expecting some logical episodes, she is leaving with kunj in his room but she is yuv's wife, he is contantly thrusting her of rape n moreover he is abusing kunj too, I think these are the filler episodes may be yuvi is planning something else but I agree they should have write more powerful storyline with such a wonderful couple , they are just wasting their talent with a cheap story!! It looks comedy and after divorce and fake marriage who does like that ??? People takes more strong decision and try to come out as early as possible !! But the girl is going to fall in big pit this time, I hate her decision of taking this type of revenge?? There is no revenge word for such cheap act only punishment!!

Neither do i expect much logic but even in most daily soaps there's some level of logic and normally TeI has historically been better except the last few months.

I'm not even so much pissed at the storyline as I am by the treatment of rape. I don't even understand why Twinkle is staying with Yuvraaj since she already killed the game by wearing Kunj's ring 2 days ago. Nataak is finished so why doesn't she go and live with Kunj...why is she living with a stranger when she still believes Kunj to be her husband (i would have understood had she been still playing along with Yuvi before the engagement). There you go, no rape track and a better revenge angle to piss off Yuvi.

I mean by law and religion, she's still married to Kunj.

My problem is not that they're using rape track again for the 50th time but in the way they are treating the topic of rape and abuse. Rape and comedy just don't go hand in hand.

I'm still uncomfortable with that aspect of Twinj relationship but it was easier to deal with cos I saw her fighting back and broken. Another thing was, she wasn't married off to her rapist for the sake of 'honour' or anything like that but rather she chose to marry him for her own personal reasons (not okay but at least she herself made the choice and it wasn't directly linked to her honour). Also, this issue was resolved before their relationship evolved (i hated that they fell for each other while she was still believed he raped her and was even angrier at the way Kunj threw back that at her as if Twinkle has no right to bring it up).

But thats the problem with the characters, they don't seem to not approve. I want to see them trust her but also make it obvious they don't approve some of her actions, that would create a nice conflict. There should be a balance between comedy, angst, romance etc. Twinkle is and will always be a victim of Yuvi, she's emotionally vulnerable to him. There should be someone there to show her revenge has limits cos for her the lines are blurred. She wants revenge at any cost, she even puts herself in harm just for it so there should be someone to pull her back but all the people in her corner just egg her on.

Yuvi's every word is literally a rape threat and I don't mind it because Yuvi has always been like this. I just mind the people around him treat it as joke (or at least don't seem to be shocked/creeped out) and don't send him to jail for abusive behaviour (which they have proof of) or at least have a talk to Twinkle at the lengths she's willing to go to have her revenge.

I mean the last show I watched was Madhubala which is the most misogynistic show I have ever seen on indian TV (even worse than an Ekta serial) but even those shows didn't have comedy and rape threats in the same breath.

This is less of a revenge and more of a comedy/joke. I had high hopes for the storyline and some good things happened like that whole engagement scene infront of Yuvi but I want the track to go on like that, there's no need to live with Yuvi. She's still married to Kunj so throw that in his face. Still live with Kunj, to show Yuvi that he can never have her not even if he 'marries' her through deception.

What a better way to make Yuvi's life hell than not even getting her to himselfneven after all he has done. I mean since they're not treating the sancity of marriage correctly, might as well go all the way.

There's no need for Twinkle to be under Yuvi's thumb every 5 minutes. I want her to have some power for atleast sometime before he has the upper hand again.

All shows either end too quickly or see themselves ruined by TRP

As Batman said, 'you either die quickly or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.'

@Ahlaam -- I watch this show and visit this forum on and off. I cannot appreciate the current track due the treatment of serious subjects of forced marriage and a potential for rape in a comedic format -- so have stopped watching for now.

Rape, especially marital rape, are sensitive subjects and should never be shown this way -- as a joke or a comedic situation. I disagree with anyone who says this is just a show or do not look for logic, as these are serious subjects. Some of the comments to your post highlight the problem these types of shows are creating -- they desensitize the audience from the gravity of such subjects and the torment the victim faces.

Yuvi has tried to rape her before. I just cannot understand how can Twinkle even stay with him.
