According to Hindu mythology Rahu is a demon or rather part of a demon who stealthily had the Amrit of elixir of immortality which only Devas were supposed to take. Other part is Kethu. And as per mythology it is believed that this Rahu-Kethu are responsible for solar eclipse.
Whatever it is we all know anything connected with demons or asurs it is bad. And it is said everyday 1.5 hrs belong to this malefic fellow Rahu.
It is said he obstructs all the auspicious beginnings and create problems. If you ask me do I believe in such things I don't know. But one thing I know that our ancestors were intelligent , more intelligent than us who understood nature and many of the things they decoded into stories so that the knowledge doesn't land in wrong hands. Connecting Indian mythology to modern science has been a hobby for me from sometime and many analysis on that front you can find in SKR forum.
So as per those connection I feel that maybe certain position of earth with respect to sun some frequencies or rays which we cannot see can affect us. ( we all know about solar spectrum and the fact that frequencies exist above and below our visual and audio medium) .
And whatever is coming during this rahukalam maybe malefic frequencies which can harm us someway.
If we can look at rahukalam from this perspective maybe the right knowledge will emerge. Then with the basis on science we might know what we can do or what we cannot do at this rahu kalam.
And this fear of rahu kalam will go. Currently on one extreme people fear rahu kalam and on the other extreme people discard it completely. But for me truth is somewhere in between. Something is there, but not everything. If we can understand that something with a scientific base then Mr Rahukalam will not be this troubling for us or anyone for that matter.

@shru most precisely and aptly said😳👏.. thank you for this post😳...
Rahu is the northern point and Ketu is the southern point. Ancient astronomers felt that the mighty Rahu and Ketu have the strength to obscure the sun, thus causing a solar eclipse. Hence it is considered inauspicious to begin any undertaking during this "Rahukaal". Every day this Rahukaal lasts for around 90 minutes, but the duration differs according to the length of the time between sunrise to sunset.
