Chapter 30

Sonali went to hospital with Nikhil. Once doctors cleared that nothing serious has happened and Nikhil will be discharged as soon as he wakes up, Sonali took a breath of relief. She quickly informed the rest of the family members and the news was more than welcome.

When dada ji, dadi ji, Shaleen, Nisha, rahul and maanvi reached sabarwal mansion, raj must have already retired to the bar drinking to his disapproval of rahul-maanvi performing together while rest of them went to their rooms to get a well deserved rest.

As soon as rahul maanvi reached their room, both of their phones buzzed together. Once they saw the names on caller id on their phone, they knew something must have happened. They both received their calls.

Rahul got the call from ACP prithvi
"...Mr. Sabarwal. I know this is an odd time to call and you must be very tired from your concert today. Still I need you to come to the city hospital urgently; I will tell you everything once you get here. Bring Mrs. Sabarwal along as well."

Rahul told him that they will be there soon and disconnected the call.

Maanvi received a worried call from shilpa
"...Maanvi beta... dekhna yahan kya ho raha hai. Main zara der ke liye tere baba ko chod kar gayi, aur jab laut kar aayi to room ke bahar police khadi thi. Doctors' aur police kuch bhi nahi bata rahe hain ki hua kya hai, aur kisi ko ander bhi nahi jaane de rahe hai. Mujhe bahuat darr lag raha hai maanvi. Tum jaldi se hospital aa jao."

Maanvi assured her that they are on their way right now and asked her to stay strong. She wished nothing has happened to upamanyu and this will all pass. Once she got off the phone, she shared an understanding eye lock with rahul. Maanvi quickly changed her dress as this was torn a little bit at concert venue. Without wasting any more time they both headed straight to the hospital.

When they finally reached the hospital, the nurse escorted them to the waiting room where shilpa, harsh and sujoy were already present.

Shilpa~ "Maanvi... abhi tak koi kuch bhi nahi bata raha hai. Pata nahi tere baba ko kya hua hai. Meri to darr ke mare jaan nikli ja rahi hai. Agar tere baba ko kuch ho gaya ho to?" she was teary as the silence from doctors' and police was leaving a cloud of unsurity about the recent developments.

Maanvi tries her best to consol her mother but the same fear was also haunting her thoughts. Just then ACP prithvi enters the room with two of his men. Needless to say, he had everyone's attention without trying.

Prithvi~ "I m sorry... to keep this quite for so long. But it is standard procedure that police are the first one to respond to these situations."

Rahul~ "But what has happened? Is upamanyu ji ok? No one is telling anything as of yet." The concern for his father-in-law was genuine.

Prithvi signals his men to go ahead. "Arrest him on charges of attempted murder, physical and mental harassment to begin with. Rest he will find out soon enough in jail." Pointing at sujoy.

Sujoy was caught by surprise. He had no idea what was happening so he started his old blabber to avoid getting arrested "What the hell is going on? Why am I being arrested? I m innocent! I had nothing to do with any of these charges against me. These are all plotted by rahul. He must have bribed the police to do this. What is the proof that I did any of this?"

Prithvi~ "Enough!... we have found out the whole truth Mr. sujoy." He opens the door to reveal Mala standing outside with a female constable and a nurse.

Seeing mala, sujoy's face turns pale. He controls himself and continues with his allegations against rahul once again "Yeh ladki jhoot bol rahi hai. Isko bhi rahul ne paise diye hain mere khilaf bolne ke liye. Sabko paise se khareed kar mujhe jhoote ilzaam mein fasana chahta hai yeh rahul. Maine kuch nahi kiya. Main nirdosh hoon!" he tries to break free from the grip of the two of prithvi's men but to no success.

Prithvi silences him again and the final curtain is raised. "Mala hi nahi... upamanyu ji ne bhi hume sab kuch bata diya hai. Yes, upamanyu ji is finally out of his coma. As soon as my constable who was staying guard under a cover, at hospital informed me of this, we had the full right to keep him separated from having any contact with anyone until we have acquired his full statement. Once we had his statement, it was easy to find mala and get her statement as well. Mr. Sujoy, your lies will not help you anymore. You are going down for all your crimes. Take him away." He signaled his men.

Once sujoy was gone, prithvi narrated the whole story about how sujoy harassed mala and then tried to marry maanvi. How upamanyu ended up in hospital after rahul tried to expose sujoy's truth to save maanvi from him. According to doctors' review, it was the performance that rahul and maanvi gave together that was responsible to bring upu out of coma.

After finding the truth, shilpa and harsh were both filled with gratitude towards the hero of the day, rahul. Maanvi hugged mala to consol her and offer her all kinds of help and support in her trying times. Rahul also told her that she is still welcome to work with them and go ahead with her singing career for which mala was thankful. Nurse helped mala back to her room so she can rest as this was little stressful for her.

Prithvi bid his farewell as he still has to take care of the rest of the paper work regarding the arrest of sujoy. Before leaving, he allowed them all to go meet upamanyu now.

Maanvi and rahul shared a moment of relief as all the misunderstanding, whatever spec of it may have been left about that incident, was now completely gone. After living with rahul for over a month, knowing his true self, maanvi didn't doubt him to be involved in upamanyu's accident, but now she was sure. Rahul also felt the new warmth in his relation with maanvi and her family. They were all eager to meet upamanyu now.

They entered upamanyu's room. He was resting after giving his full statement to prithvi. He saw his visitors and managed to greet them with a smile. His first gesture was to extend a hand towards rahul which rahul held gently.

Upamanyu~ "Rahul beta. Hum sabse pehle tumko thank you kehna chahat hai. Tumne mere liye, meri beti ke liye jo kiya... hum iss ehsaan ka badla kaise..." he got overwhelmed with emotions.

Rahul~ "Unkle, Aapko bilkul bhi thank you kehne ki zaroorat nahi hai. Maine to bas wahi kiya jo sahi tha. Aap mujhe thank you keh kar chota mat banaiye."

Upamanyu~ "Humko sab bataya prithvi. Hum bahuat lucky hai... ki tum humara beti se shaadi kiya, ki tum humara damad hai. Humko yakeen hai ki tum humara beti ka humesha khayal rakhega."

Rahul~ "Unkle, lucky to main hoon ki mujhe aapki beti jaisa humsafar mila. Main aapki beti se bahuat pyaar karta hoon aur aaj aapko promise karta hoon ki main uska humesha khayal rakhoonga."

Upamanyu~ "Yeh unkle unkle kya laga rakha hai tum? Baba bolo. Tum bhi humare bete jaisa hi hai."

It was such a happy union. Shilpa and harsh also shared some light hearted small talk with upu. When maanvi's turn came, upu's expression turned a little grim.

Maanvi~ "Baba..."

Upu turned his face away from her which came as a surprise to everyone.

Maanvi~ "Mujhse baat nahi karenge baba? Main aapse baat karne ko taras gayi hoon baba. Please mujhse baat kijiye na." her eyes filled with tears.

Upumanyu~ "Humko tumse koi baat nahi karna. Tum apna promise toda. Tumne kaha tha ki raj sabarwal ko kabhi bhi tumhari awaaz nahi milegi. Wo cheater..."

Rahul didn't take long to understand what turn this conversation was taking. He interrupted "Baba... iss mein maanvi ki koi galti nahi hai. Maanvi ko mere saath gaane ke liye maine kaha tha. Maanvi mere saath gaye tab bhi aapko aitraaz hai? Please manaa mat kijiye. Main aapki beti ke saath gaana chahta hoon. Please baba." His plead was enough to melt upu.

Upamanyu~ "Mujhe maanvi ka tumhare saath gaane se koi aitraaz nahi hai beta. Humko tumhare father se problem hai. Uss ne jo humare saath kiya..."

Rahul~ "Mujhe maloom hai baba. Mere dada ji ne mujhe sab bataya. Dad ne jo aapke saath kiya wo galat hai. Jiski koi maafi bhi nahi hai. Par kya uski wajah se aap maanvi se naraaz honge? Maanvi ke mere saath gaane se dad ka koi relation nahi hai."

Upamanyu didn't want to stay angry with maanvi but his feeling, that one way or another raj will find a way to use maanvi for the same money and fame that made him betrayed his friendship, wouldn't let him let go of his anger.

A tear or two rolled down maanvi's cheek as she ran outside. Rahul couldn't bear the pain he saw in maanvi's eyes and he followed her. She stopped near the car and rahul soon caught up with her. He turned her around, pulled her in his arms and hugged her tightly.

Rahul~ "Baba will forgive you maanvi. He would never stay angry for long. He loves you and wants to keep you safe from my dad's ill intentions. He is angry with my dad and not you. You will come to see it too." His attempt to consol maanvi worked to some extent. He will have to make sure his dad admits his mistakes and try to make amends, if he needs them to move past those differences. It will not be an easy task but he will have to try for the sake of maanvi.

Night was turning darker so rahul and maanvi went home. Maanvi still thinking about the disapproval from her father, was little upset. But her faith in rahul's words was more powerful than her own fears regarding her baba's forgiveness.

Back in room, shilpa also tries to convince upu to not let his differences with raj affect his daughter's life. Maanvi and rahul are mature enough to understand right from wrong and they would never walk the path like raj. Shilpa also informed him that maanvi is pregnant and his distancing himself from her would affect her health. After shilpa's arguments, upu decided to not let his anger with raj affect his daughter's life. He told shilpa that he will talk to maanvi first thing in the morning.

Avanti made it back to Talwar residence. Her worry that rahul suspects her for the incident was making her anxious.

"Kahin rahul ko mujh par shak to nahi ho gaya?... Agar haan to wo mujhse dur ho jayega... Agar Nisha ne rahul ko kuch bata diya to?... Agar aaj Nisha nahi hoti to maanvi aur uske bache ko koi nahi bacha sakta tha... Main rahul ko khud se aise dur nahi hone de sakti!... Maanvi mujhse itni aasani se nahi jeet sakti!..."

All these thoughts were maddeningly loud. First of all she needs to take care of Nisha. Any lose end is a liability that can result in rahul taken away from her forever. Maybe use other family members to gain more trust so she can get close enough to maanvi and hurt her. Then her thoughts came to Nikhil.

"Shit! Nikhil will tell everything how she lured him in the prop room and locked him there. Forgot about him completely, and once he speaks up, Nisha might add to his accusations by telling everything that happened with maanvi in back stage area."

This only meant that Avanti might be done for as soon as Nikhil wakes up.

Rahul would never see her again or even have any contact with her. Then the thoughts of what rahul might say once he finds out what she tried to do to maanvi and his unborn child.

"... avanti, I never thought you could do something like this to me... you claim to love me yet you tried to harm the people I care about... you were supposed to be my friend yet you backstab me..."

When the shadow rahul from her thoughts, talked about the possibility of almost losing the unborn child, the thoughts took a more aggressive turn.

"... you tried to kill an unborn child... that is the worst crime in the world to harm an innocent life... you are a devilious witch... get lost from my life... I never want to see you again around me or around people in my life... you can go kill yourself for all I care... I HATE YOU AVANTI..."

The last words spoken by the shadow rahul from her imagination echoed louder than the real words ever would. Avanti held her ears trying to shut them out but to no use as it was all inside of her head. She went to the corner of her room and slid down on floor trying to escape all the voices.

Avanti whimpered in that corner "No rahul, please don't say that... I love you rahul... please... no..."

That was the last thing that she needed to have a complete breakdown. She was no longer sane. Next morning when her parents found her, she was not herself. Talking to thin air, taking no notice of who was around her or what anyone said to her.

Her parents immediately appointed private team of doctors to help her. On first look at her condition, all doctors were sure that Avanti case has gotten serious and their recommendation was that she needs to be sent to the best mental care facility in Massachusetts. For her parents, she meant world and right now they blamed themselves for not being able to help her sooner.

Within the next day or two, they will be gone away from this city and mainly sabarwals in hope that they can get their daughter, the care and help that she needs to get better.
