"What the hell were you thinking, coming and disrupting my date like that?" Swadheenta barged into the living room where Adarsh was sitting and reading a brochure.
"Well he was trying to get cozy with you." He replied without looking up from the infrastructure details given in brochure.
"I WANTED cozy! I can pull your hair out at this moment Adarsh!" He looked up at that, after all it was the first time she called him by his name. As far as he could remember she always had this habit of not addressing him by his given name, instead resorting to pronouns or simply gesturing with her hands or eyes. "Why did you had to come barging in? I had to escort him to the hospital to get aid for a broken nose and split lip. Not to forget the convincing for him to not press charges solely for your benefit... And I don't think we'll be going out again." she finished jerking her handbag.
"Well that means my mission's accomplished." He said placing the brochure on the table and getting up.
"What?" She asked bewildered.
"Yeah, now you can go out with me!" he moved towards her.
"Wha-? No. What do you mean?" she spluttered completely thrown by the statement.
"It's easy enough to understand, You-"
"No I want none of that." She literally shook the thought from her mind and got back to the issue at hand, "You just messed up someone's face."
"Well he got into my face. Should've known better than to mess up with a kick boxer." He replied casually.
"You got in his face first, if memory serves me right! And you had no business doing that. Besides he was only holding my hand." She bit back.
"Well he shouldn't have done that." he put his hands in his trouser pockets.
"Shouldn't I be the judge of that?" she exclaimed.
"Well I've seen enough of the duds that you hang out with to figure out that you are not a good judge at all." He observed.
"How dare you!" she started incensed, "Even then you have no business-"
"Haven't you been listening I want it to be my business."
"And haven't you realized I don't want any of that."
"Why?" he asked as if it were the most absurd thing he'd ever heard.
"Well you totally shooed away a guy I liked. Secondly you are my best friend's ELDER brother and lastly I don't feel that way about you." she laid down.
"Oh please... Don't lie to me, I've seen you spy on me numerous times in the last six years, don't think that if I don't react I don't notice." he said self-assuredly. She visibly flushed. "And the rest. It's all trivial, you couldn't have wanted him more than you want me and about the elder bit, its not my mistake that you were born three years later than me. Take that up with your parents!"
"How can you say that! You are so pompous, high-handed and full of yourself." She said outraged.
"Well have you seen me? People say I have good reason to be." He replied flashing her a charming smile.
"Oh God! Why am I even wasting my time having this conversation with you? I'm going." She turned around to leave, picking up her side bag. In a swift motion Adarsh hauled her to himself as she yelped in surprise.
"Okay. Forget all this. That moron is out of picture, and I want you. Just give me a chance." He urged pulling her closer.
"I don't... You are... No not..." she whispered incoherently, staring into the eyes she had loved since she was fourteen.
"Try." He almost whispered.
"No." She said forcefully, getting back to her senses, and creating a little distance between them, even as he held on to her.
"Okay" he said slowly, "let's make a deal?"
"Deal?" she asked puzzled.
"Deal, bet, whichever way you wanna put it," he elaborated.
"Huh?"
"You give me a few days, 4-5 hours exclusively reserved for me and in them I'll change your mind about us." He explained
"What? That's outrageous!" she said astounded.
"It's either this or I break up every guy's nose who sets his eyes on you... And that solely will be on you." He offered flippantly.
"How can you-?"
"Come up with such brilliant ideas? It's a means to an end. It's what I do." He replied even before she could express her disbelief at his outlandish behaviour.
"No."
"Oh C'Mon." he persuaded.
"And if I don't agree by the end of that time?" she quizzed.
"You will." He said in that self-assured manner of his, which she secretly loved.
"But what if I don't?" she argued.
"Well that's not gonna happen, you know you want me. Even though you're denying it now. But hypothetically if that happens, well you can make me do whatever you want as payback. And when I win, we kick start a full fledged relationship." He declared.
"But what will I tell Abha?" she asked a little worriedly.
"That you are dating her brother. After all it won't be a lie. After a few days anyway." He said unbothered.
She shook her head at his overconfidence.
"By the way, there are two things you need to know." He said seriously.
She gave him a quizzical look.
He moved closer and whispered in her ear, "You are MINE." She gasped and her heart almost stopped. "And I don't get concepts like personal space and hands off approach." Her heart was doing double time. He gently bit her earlobe. She shivered in his embrace. He smirked at her reaction.
What had she landed herself into?!
