Chapter 20

Payal and maanvi were busy with the preparations for tomorrow's party. Rahul was lingering around with different excuses; mainly using the one that he is trying to help with the preparations. But everyone knows he wanted to stay around maanvi. Payal was also determined not to leave maanvi's side or rahul will sure try to come and talk to her.

Payal~ "Maanvi, this is some decoration stuff that needs to be put outside in the backyard. The servants will use them with the tent so the place will be ready for tomorrow. Can you take half the stuff, I will bring the rest."

Maanvi~ "Sure." She replied as she took the stuff and went outside.

Rahul's eyes trailed maanvi as she went outside. Payal went to rahul and tapped on his shoulders "Kya? Punishment hai na? Saath mein time spend karne nahi milega agle do din tak! To mauke talaash karna band bhi karo." She smiled.

Rahul~ "Payal... time spend karna manaa hai. Kamse kam ek dusare ko dekh to sakte hain. Ki ab kya wo bhi punishment ka part hai?" slowly taking rebellious tone.

Payal looked at him from head to feet then replied "Hmmm. Sirf dekh sakto ho. Kuch aur kiya to dekh lena!" she threatened. Then thought to herself "Waise bhi, iss se zyada punishment badai to inn dono ne to jaan le leni hai meri."

Rahul took a breath of comfort as now he got permission to linger around maanvi. Soon he will also get a chance to talk to her so they can meet somewhere away from payal's staring eyes. With that thought, rahul started to help in decorations inside the house.

Payal reached outside with the remaining decoration stuff and found maanvi. Maanvi saw payal coming and inquired if she checked up on food in storage. Payal asked her to go and check it. Maanvi went through the hall where rahul was working on decoration at the staircase. He saw maanvi heading towards the store room and decided to follow as this might be his chance to talk to her.

Maanvi grabbed the list and went inside the store room. A minute later rahul entered the store room and closed the door behind him so hard that it got locked from outside. Surely someone must have heard it but everyone was too busy to come and check right now.

Maanvi turned around and saw rahul "Rahul, tum yahan kya kar rahe ho? Payal ko pata chala to?"

Rahul~ "Uske bare mein hi to baat karni hai. Payal aur uski punishment..." he sighed and continued "Acha drama hai, mujhe pareshan karne ka. Aur tum..." eyeing her.

Maanvi~ "Main kya? Maine kya kiya?"

Rahul~ "Tum ek bar bhi manaa nahi kar sakti thi! Chup-chap bas khadi thi wahan par. Jaise tumhe to koi faraq nahi padta iss se. Tumhe koi problem nahi hai pura din mujhse bina mile rehne mein?"

Maanvi~ "Main bhi kehne wali thi par tumne mujhse pehle keh diya iss liye main chup ho gayi. Tumne kaha ya main kaha, baat ek hi hui na? Waise bhi wo tumhari behen hai, jab tum meri nahi sunte to wo bada sunegi meri!" she rolled her eyes as she said this, and then turned around to cross-check the stuff.

Rahul went in front of her before speaking again "Main tumhari nahi sunta!? Are you serious? Tumhare saath mujhe bolne ka mauka hi kitna milta hai? Tum ek bar express train ki tarah nikalti ho to tum kisi ko bhi nahi chodti. Tum sab ladkiya ek jaise hoti ho, tumhare aage to koi kuch bol hi nahi sakta!"

Maanvi~ "To issi bahane se hi sahi, tumne yeh to maana ki tumhari behen ke aage to koi kuch bol nahi sakta. Uss par tum mujhe keh rahe ho ki maine usse nahi roka." She smiled.

Rahul smiled as well. He looked around for a moment then said "Main tumse kya bolne aya tha aur kya kehne laga. Hum ek dusare se jhagade bina nahi reh sakte na?"

Maanvi~ "Mujhse mat complain karo. Ye jhagada maine nahi tumne start kiya tha. Mere peeche peeche to tum aaye the, to bolo kya kehna tha?"

Before rahul could talk about how they can meet again in private, payal opens the door.

Payal~ "Mujhe maloom tha. Ek bhi mauka nahi chodoge na bhai? Iss tarah ek saath time spend karoge to meri punishment ka matlab hi kya raha?"

Rahul~ "Bilkul theek kaha tumne. Isliye ek suggestion deta hoon, apni punishment wapas lelo." He grinned.

Payal~ "Not a chance! Aur ye stupid smile hatao apne face par se. Aap dono par punishment abhi bhi hai aur aap usko follow karenge iske liye main rahoongi aap dono ke aas-pass." She used her old evil smile.

Rahul's smile disappeared as he looked back-n-forth between payal and maanvi. Maanvi also glanced at rahul from corners of her eyes but stayed quite. Payal ordered rahul to go and check up on the decoration progress in the backyard just to send him away. After rahul left, payal told maanvi that everything else is done so once she cross-checks stuff down here in store, she can go and take rest.

Preparations for tomorrow's party were almost completed except a few small tasks that payal can handle by herself.

Later everyone gathered for dinner. Sonali and dadi ji praised payal for wonderful job on the party arrangements. Raj congratulated payal on getting her first business assignment as well. Payal thanked them and said that rahul and maanvi helped a lot with party arrangements, as far as the business assignment is concerned, that one is due after rahul's concert. Shaleen felt like someone rubbed salt and pepper on his wounds from that meeting.

Shaleen~ "Excuse me. I don't feel very hungry right now, I will eat later." And left the dinner table. Nisha understood and tried to stop him but he zoomed out. Nisha excused herself and followed Shaleen back to their room.

Everyone trailed them as they left. Then they continued with the dinner. Payal was sitting between rahul and maanvi to uphold the punishment terms she had applied on them. Sonali was curious as what is going on between the three of them; she watched them for few minutes and then asked finally.

Sonali~ "Ye tum teeno ke beech chal kya raha hai? Jab se shopping se laute ho tab se notice kar rahi hoon."

Payal~ "Nahi mausi ji, kuch bhi nahi." She passes it as nothing.

Sonali stared at rahul as he hides nothing from her. Rahul looked at payal then looked at Sonali before replying "Payal ne punishment di hai."

Sonali~ "Punishment!? Kaisi punishment aur kis liye?"

After a long silence between rahul, maanvi and payal, finally payal answered sonali's questioning look in one breath.

Payal~ "Jab hum shopping kar rahe the tab ye dono mujhe chod kar apne-aap mein busy ho gaye the. Isliye maine inn dono ko punishment di hai ki ye dono agle do din tak saath mein time spend nahi kar sakte."

Everyone froze for a moment as they processed what payal just said. Dada ji, Dadi ji, Sonali and nikhil broke into laughter at that. Everyone exchanged the funny glances around with rahul, maanvi and payal.

ACP was talking with his tech guy. The details that ACP asked from raj's college life were presented to him. The tech guy has dug up everything he could find about raj's college life and made his report, now in ACP's hands.

ACP~ "So, raj married to a girl named Gayatri first. Raj, gayatri, Sonali, upamanyu, and 7 other people were classmates. Gayatri, Sonali and Mahima were best friends. Few years after rahul was born, gayatri died; and a year later raj and Sonali married."

ACP was deep in thoughts. "Gayatri... Gayatri... that letter!... G'... that letter must be written to gayatri!"

ACP self-talks "That must be why that letter was found with old pics of raj from his college days. It was addressed to gayatri who he married. But K'... old lover perhaps? Someone whose name starts with K' must be a secret lover of gayatri and..."

His thoughts take a different turn "What do we know about gayatri's death? Is raj involved in it or just this secret lover of gayatri blames raj for stealing someone they loved? Both cases make sense. That's why someone was trying to take revenge with sabarwals, by hurting someone dearest to them, which is Rahul."

So he was right about this case. This case has its root far deeper into Raj's past, probably from the time when he was in college. None of the people in Raj's group had name starting with k' but there are like 20 people whose name starts with K' just in raj's class. Not to mention that there are a lot of them in whole college. It could be anyone who used to secretly like gayatri.

These are very old records and to look into everyone would be like climbing Mount Everest. He will need to gather more evidence so he can reduce the number of suspects before this case can make any further progress. For now, ACP needs to inform the commissioner about what he has found.

After dinner was done, everyone headed to their rooms. Rahul and maanvi were headed to theirs when payal called them from behind

"Aap dono kidhar chale? Punishment yaad hai na?" she smiled knowing that they didn't thought that the punishment applied at night as well.

Rahul maanvi understood and looked at each other. This time maanvi beats rahul by speaking up first "Payal, raat ko to punishment count nahi hoti. Tumne sirf do din ka kaha tha, raat ka nahi."

Payal~ "Bhabhi, aap kitni bholi ho. Mera do din se matlab 48 hours se tha. That means, if starting the countdown from today, your punishment will end by evening on day after tomorrow, just before rahul's concert. So yes, my punishment includes night as well."

Poor rahul maanvi, staying away from each other during the day wasn't enough that now they have to stay away at night as well. Payal continued "To make it easy, maanvi bhabhi will share room with me. This way I know that you two have followed my punishment terms properly."

Payal allowed maanvi to return to her room and change into her night dress while rahul will stay in hall with payal. After maanvi went upstairs, rahul eyed payal and said "What the hell do you think you are doing?"

Payal~ "Punishment hai, mujhe ignore karne ki. Bhugatna to padega." She added her evil smile again.

Rahul wanted to tell her off but he knows that he cannot win against her in any argument. Few minutes later, maanvi came down in her salwar suit. Payal went to her room with maanvi and rahul trailed them leave. Then he went to his room. Tonight his room seemed lifeless and torturing as the heart and soul of his life and this room just left it few minutes ago. Only her sweet scent lingering in the air...

He quickly changed into his night dress and lay down on the bed, thinking of the night before when everything was so magical.

Maanvi and payal talked about some old memories for about half an hour. Sleep was well away from maanvi but due the the tiredness from today's work, payal soon fell fast asleep. Checking up on payal, maanvi realized that she might be able to sneak past and go see rahul. As she went up the stairs, rahul came in from his walk that he went on as his thoughts were making him restless. He saw maanvi heading to their room.

Maanvi entered their room and saw an empty bed. She thought maybe rahul is in bathroom and she went ahead to check. Rahul slowly sneak up on her from behind, turned her around and pulled her close "Mujhe dhoond rahi ho maanvi?". Maanvi was surprised but she didn't shy away this time.

They stared into each other's eyes; maanvi raised her hand and put it on his cheek. They came closer, bent their heads, foreheads touching. They finally found peace in their hearts to have found time with each other.

Rahul~ "Payal..." he inquired in whispering voice.

Maanvi~ "Fast asleep due to her tiring day." She assured him in her low voice.

The night is theirs as payal will not find out about them now.

FINALLY the ending makes me sooo happy!!!!!

let payal sleep continuously for the next 48hrs so that these 2 can have their own romantic time together...poor rahul - maanvi😆
