Hey Friends!! I am SenRazia,or Anu, and I thought of sharing a very interesting story with you guys. As we saw in an episode of Skr, Kevat the boatsman was a devotee of Lord Rama who showrd his true feelings for his Lord by telling him the truth behind his emotions and by worshipping him everyday in his absebce and helping the people of Ayodha feel his presence by reciting his tales. This is the story of the conversation between Lord Ram and Kevat which I feel has given me a big lesson:
When Lord Ram, Devi Sits and the dormers brother Lakshman were looking for a means to cross the river Gangs to start their life of a hermit on the other side, their came a person named Guha. Guha lived in the village nearby. On seeing the Lord, he asked him how he could help. The Lord asked for a boatsman to help them cross the river. Just then, came there Kevat, a boatsman who ferried people across the river. On seeing his Lord and his loved ones, he first requested them to have a little food at his village. Lord Ram and the others oblidged after which they asked to be ferried to the other side of the Ganga. But then, Kevat refused to take Lord Ram in his boat. Guha, who stood their witnessing everything, was enraged at this. On asking Kevat the reason, he said," My lord, I heard that from the very dust of your feet, a stone a forest turned into a beautiful woman. This boat, the only means of living for me, is made of several pieces of wood. If the dust from your feet touches them, they may turn into several women. My lord, I cannot support any more members of my family. Please understand. " At this, Guha asked,"Then what should be done?" Kevat replied, "Lord, please allow me to wash your feet and take in the dust from your feet. " Ram smiled at him and agreed. Kevat washed his feet with the water of the very river and asked Ram to step over his hand covered on the Gangs JAL before stepping into the Padukas prepared for Ram. And so he did. Kevat touched his heart with the same hands Ram had walked over and began the journey. On reaching the other side, Sita removed one of the rings from her finger and placed it in front of Kevat as a token of thanking. Kevat said he could not accept it. When asked by Ram why he could not, he replied,"Lord, two people of the same proffesion do not exchange tokens such." Ram asked,"But how are we of the same proffesion?" Kevat smiled and replied,"Lord, I ferry people from one bank to another. And you ferry people from the bank of Sansaar to the bank of Mukti." Ram was pleased at this answer of his and told him that in the pages of history he would be immortal and that he would attain Mukti.
Moral: People often don't realise that though separated through various means, we are all the same and our ultimate goal is to attain Moksha, or liberation . Also , there is nothing better than to speak the truth in all situations for they can lead to the most amazing situations.
Thanks! Hope it helped y'all!
