This one line summed about Bharat 's complete anguish. He was part of a family. Just like his elder brother he had loved his 3 mothers and step brothers alike. He was happy to have his bhabi ,his wife and his 2 younger sis in laws.they all completed him. He was happy doing things as per his elder brother's wants and was willing to support him when ram became king.and in the name of boons what did he get. Hatred from praja.loss of father. His brothers and bhabhi in forest. His one sister in law left lonely at palace. His 2 mothers wronged. All because he was alive and his mother decided to use him as the medium to get what she wants. With the boons she made her child an orphan. Actually Bharat today reminded me of those youngsters which the elders use to settle scores between them.they are trapped in the mess not understanding anything. They carry the guilt of their parents act.their life becomes collateral damage. Yes the parents says I did it for you. Did they ask the child what it wants.did the elders ask what the child wants before destroying others. No. And today many youngsters life are destroyed in the personal war of elderly people. How many divorces are not issues between couples but issues between parents. How many honor killings are just status issues. How many times for wealth and power the real wealth relations is destroyed. I could relate to Bharat today. That loneliness is bought on by the mistakes of the past correction of which not easy.understand your boons.never make them curse by the unwise use of them.you will lose everything.

Beautiful post Shruthi. Really felt for Bharath today. He could never meet his mother's expectations what ever he did because it was always in comparison to Ram. He even tried to become someone he was not when he was sent to Kekaya to please his mother. After everything he now understood that he was always being used. The most softhearted among the 4 brothers who thought the world of his brother who just wanted to be in his shadow who was a reflection of his brother is now considered to be the one plotting against him. And that too because of his mother who did everything behind his back.
The fights or problems between individuals when it is taken up by relatives and friends then it becomes a big issue. But if the individuals themselves sort it out it will be so much simple and easy.
My maternal grandfather was killed in a fight with their neighbor which started with the ladies in both the houses. They argued because leaves n mangoes from one plot was falling into the other. But it became a big issue when it was taken up by their husbands and other elders. In the end my grandfather lost his life and neighbors son was imprisoned. The whole family had to move away.
My mother when we bought a house n settled had a similar problem with her neighbor. She immediately cut down the tree. Didn't want to repeat history.

Even my heart went out for him today.
Do parents asked what the child wanted ? That actually is a big problem, initially parents take decisions for child when he is too young to think for himself. And then they totally forget that child has grown up. I think it is one of the complexities of parenthood, when to cut the umbilical cord ?

Well written post Shruthi⭐️

Bharath always reminds me of those children whose parent/parents thrust things onto them they never really want. Be it the choice of games the child likes to play or the hobby it wants to pick or the career it wants to choose, parents sometimes pressurize their children to take something up in the name of competition, jealousy or because that dream was their own and has remained unfulfilled. Hence they expect their child to bring those dreams to fruition forgetting that the child would also have its own hopes and wishes.

Bharath was an extreme case of one such parent who in order to get her dreams to come true, used her son as reason and destroyed her own's son's universe. It took 14 years of Bharath's life to set right his mom's actions. The pain it caused him would always bring tears to those who read Ramayan. A true brother and Bhakt, Bharath is an epitome of sacrifice and Kaikeyi shows us what one should not do with one's children.

@geena I am from a joint family and has seen it disintegrating. And the issues were lack of right decision making. Being eldest I feel the pain it happened. But then to bring it back is a Herculean task for the present generation. Your experience is heart wrenching. Any issues it has to between parties concerned. Moment a third party comes equation changes.@sumedha it is a complexity of parenthood. But that decision if not taken at the right time it impacts generations. I have boys in office who cry transfer because they are unable to adapt to new surroundings. Girls families call hr to give transfer. A age where you should explore these people want to be tied to apron strings. We also comes across New joinees who feel they have finally got freedom and end up in other extreme of smoking, drinking, live in etc.in both cases excess control damages

@Bold For some reason this immediately reminded me of some celebrities who have a wide following of younger generation looking up to them. Not saying celebs owe anyone anything but ultimately they do have an impact, even if the impact is small. That's the worst part IMO
It's just a matter of getting a different idea of right and wrong. I think.

Btw the difference in response given to Kaikeyi by both her sons is interesting. Ram reacted so calmly despite the fact that he was getting punished. Whereas, Bharat reacted angrily even though, he was getting a 'reward'.
The love the brothers have for each other is precious.
