IKRS Wednesday 30th March 2016 ep 203 My Take ~ Sibling rivalry or motivation

Those who are an only child are generally thought to receive full attention from their carers. However those who are blessed to have siblings may have to jump through all sorts of hoops ,like the family set up, gender and their tier within the family. Where a family promotes an attitude conducive to healthy, fair play and equal respect , siblings may well grow up as kinship under the canopy of love and inter independency. Younger siblings may uphold the older ones as a source of their personal inspiration and motivation. But where there is unjust treatment between siblings on the basis of gender ,culture and preferences ..there the like hood of rivalry , setting up against, and competing each other with negative connotations, can become evident amongst siblings. Today's episode to me seems to be a strange admixture of both sibling rivalry and inspiration from each other amongst a brother Viplav and his sole sister Shalu..

If there's no rest for the wicked , it means they are plagued by watching their back. This greedy matriarch Sulochana scans through her finances and it's a cause for concern. The sudden tap to their door , really ushers in the message of glad tidings! But still waiting in the side lines. Yet in reality Shalu comes laden with emotional baggage which she wishes to off load with the Awasthi's whom she sees as friends as opposed to two particular foes at home.

To me, Shalu is subconsciously so taken in by the love ,affection and bonding between her brother and his wife , that she forthwith wishes for something similar in her own ,lonely life. She saw that spark , in her brothers eye before anyone else could.. in fact she was the one who blurted out that which even Viplav never imagined! "has he fallen in love with Dhani? and his answer was a resounding slap on her face! because Shalu was right!.. and yes she gradually saw her brother admit his love, fought to acquire Dhani.. before Shalu's eyes ,her brother challenged the household into accepting Dhani.. and before her very eyes, her brothers' love culminated in his saagi to the girl he loved! This then is the back drop.. for this poor Shalu.. she too had dreams got engaged, her hopes were raised .. a man will love her too and she too, like her brother would be seen blessed ,as a handsome couple with her man just like her big bro.. but naught happened that way.. and now it seems she too has to hang on to Raja! He is the one who will love! her just like her bro loves Dhani! and like her brother! she too will get proactive now to get what she wants! To force and bend her family's arm to accept back in the fold! Raja the man she loves! They will have to accept him, he is their Shalu's happiness ..all this gusto! just like her brother Viplav has..with such feelings! Shalu, the runaway from home girl! comes to Raja's arms seeking the same strong protection her brother has for Dhani! alas! the naive besotted Shalu knows not that what her brother has for Dhani is true love and what she begs Raja for, is none love! "Nothing! and nothing will come out of nothing",[King Lear, Shakespeare]

Made for each other..complete compatibility, but more so equality ,walk along side, not one behind the other! Dhani brings her husband a cup of tea. But first things first, touches his feet to show reverence and accept that he is her god. But viplav prefers he treats her as a human, her husband. Over a cuppa tea they both ponder what each saw in the other? The answer is a certain honesty and inherent goodness of heart ,and a fighting spirit! That draws and keeps them together, where hard times too make them feel," gods in heaven and all's right in the world"[Browning]

Raja the fraudulent outsider, calls Kanak to the temple to hand over a distressed Shalu who came to share her stress with him.. craftily he scorns Kanak too by telling her , their daughter comes to meet him! Raja acts up the guile of being Shalu's well wisher, ensnares Kanak with the message of being honourable, to show up the callousness of the household's son Viplav! throws in as he cant come to the house to avoid unpleasantness hence he called Kanak at the temple to hand over Shalu whom he respects a lot.Shalu must have gone along with this novel idea of creating a good impression on Kanak. But like always Raja leaves a bait for them to coming running after him! this time,he tells Kanak he leaves Banaras tomorrow! kanak begs him to tarry for a few days! So Rajas plan is successful. Inch by inch he waits for Shalu's family to make his re-entry back in AN.

The greatest power of wife ,a bahu, is to organise, prepare and serve the family their meals! She is the one who looks to the culinary needs of feeding the hungry rabble! Dashrant creates a banter of starvation, but in this act to he leaves food for thought for Kanak. Her kitchen control is in jeopardy as he for the day , under the watchful eye of Viplav! delegates cooking duties to Dhani! seeing that Kanak is out! His idea is to divide Dhani and Kanak, win Viplav's trust and rule over all till kingdom come! But in this household the bahu doesn't cook alone, her husband mucks in too!

Dhani stops at the door of the kitchen boundary .This sure is,a powerful section of the household where food is cooked..Family's needs are fulfilled and through the hands that cook it, with the ingredient of love.. much love is given back to the maker !from the family who eats the meal. But Dhani is hesitant! So who should carry her over the kitchen threshold? Her beloved husband! ,he will be answerable to any backlash she is likely to face! Dhani in his arms! He then sets her on the island worktop and bids her to show the magic of her fingers mixed with her expertise and serve his family with culinary delights! Surrounded by colourful vegetables in the kitchen, the colour of natures boon, too reflects the colour of their love!

Dinner is served!made with the choiced ingredient love! Dhani stands and waits to eat after the elders have eaten! But Dashrant yet again aims to win viplav's trust over! and nullifies the rule till Dhani and Viplav too are forced to sit and eat. Sitting side by side next to your beloved has it's advantages, and a mischievous Viplav on purpose drops his spoon which Dhani leans to retrieve, but instead her hand is imprisoned in the firm grip of Viplav's palm! newlyweds what do they get up to!

Kanak and Shalu return and Kanak fumes her kitchen kingdom too!has been invaded by this witch Dhani. Kanak and Shalu as expected declineto eat with this widow and barges into her room. It seems she now uses Shalu to offload her emotional baggage onto.. no wonder the daughter is being overburdened by supporting her mother against Dhani too ,hence Shalu also in turn, goes around looking for a shoulder to cry on! Shalu tries to console her mother and suggests next time Viplav threatens to leave let him go at least they'll get rid of Dhani !kanak reels around and delivers a resounding slap on her daughters face for daring to suggest Viplav leave! Shalu is shown her place Viplav is her son who has right to stay in AN where as she! running after Raja is the one who needs to be packed off!!kanak sort of vents off her anger on seeing Shalu with Raja !

Kanak marches to the kitchen and tells ramdin off! for letting Dhani in ,she reminds him about Dhani's widowhood..but more of Kanak's anger gushes out but in a taunting civilized manner at dulari and inderani ..they come to collect Dhani.. for a few days.. but Dhani says not today .. Kanak serves Dulari and inderani cold tea in glasses as opposed to cups and saucers to remind them their daughter might be married in this prestigious household but they themselves remain puny ,menial widows. Now here Viplav needs to turn up to fix this situation with his mother!

Apart from the kitchen invasion scene.. the episode was mediocre..behavior with dulari was out of order anduncalled for but kanak will be kanak.. I wonder why she asks raja to wait for a few day?? is she planning a big wave of action against dhani? raja sits on the fence for signal to fly into AN like a scavanger .. of Eisha acted exceptionally well in the bit where she asks kanak if she could make the tea for her mother..the scene is about fighting for territory or rather not allowing an intruder in one's alloted space... hamlet53 31.3.16

Thank you for the detailed and entertaining post Hammie. Have not seen the episode yet. Looks like IKRS is taking a turn towards usual saas bahu serial. The intro you gave is so true. Where there are siblings there is never going to be equality, especially in Indian houses. The son will always be treated better even today. Even though parents have realised that most of the time it is the daughter who takes better care of them. I have also observed that mothers have a tendency to use their daughters whilst treating their sons as kings.
Better be an only child in that respect...

Hammie...😳 loved the way u highlighted the core issue of y'day episode,, ofcourse ur right n thnk u for giving me that perspective dear,, very aptly said..😳

some very profound lines by u on Vip Shalu association from the start,, I loved how u pointed out she was the frst 1 to notice his love,, siblings indeed are dat close..👍🏼
idk wat should I do with Shalu's character,, should I empathise with her or not???😕 let see I hope they dun ruin her till I lose all my sympathies for shalu...😔 actually was one of my fvt character n I want her to act maturely bt the reason being surrounded by so many negatives around her that's wat wud b the outcome.. n the biggest amongst them is her mother ofc,, Kanak was annoying n irritating; ready to make shalu scapegoat now for separating ViDha?? 😕
ViDha scenes wer refreshing making episode balanced with drama n romance,, were feel good scenes,, bt still I feel they need to come out of dat bubble pretty soon before its too late..😳

thnk u dear for another beautiful take..😳

take care

Thank you for your wonderful thought about yesterday episode ..

It is both in the form of Motivation and Rivalry .

Brother as a Fatherly figured motivating to overcome through emotions with Dhaani , however mother as Rivalry using the emotions of daughter to attack Dhaani .

DT is acting as a bridege between M and R (mid way of bridge to find the destination place to attack ) .

Hammie Hammie Hammie,
brilliant.i am actually speechless,i have watched d episode but never felt someone can describe it this way.👏 u r too good.i loved d beginning.if i say in bengali i would say:PHATAPHATI.i feel jealous of shalu i never had a sibling to support me i have always wished to b pampered by an elder bro like viplab.jiske pas jo ho usse uske value nehi pata hota. poor shalu.her vision is so clouded she cant understand that raja doesnt have d same spark in his eyes like viplab had for dhani, that guy left her in d mandap to b humiliated by d rest of d world, still she is acting like this.there must b an extent of being an ABALA NARI.hope she ends up being a smart, independent woman.thats what i want to see in tv shows, women empowerment.
i didnt like d episode much but now after reading ur take i feel like watching it again.
thank u for writing for us everyday dear.ur thread gives us food for thoughts n we readers r getting d opportunity to know each other here.😆
