After his stellar performance against Australia on Sunday, ace batsman Virat Kohli was undoubtedly the star of the evening.

Theirs was a smooth sailing romance that went downhill when Virat proposed to her around New Year. The two decided to give each other some space and slow down.

A source tells us, "Anushka is the more pragmatic one between them. They never really broke up but merely took some time off each other. There is a lot on Anushka's plate right now. Her next film (with Salman Khan) is both physically and mentally exhausting. Their decision of staying apart for a while has actually done them good."

It cannot be ignored that Anushka has been at the receiving end of trolls, irrespective of his performance. This time again, after the Indian team's victory, she received flak on social media. This time Virat responded aggressively and rightly so. Across all platforms on social media, he posted " Shame on those people who have been having a go at Anushka for the longest time and connecting every negative thing to her. Shame on those people calling themselves educated. Shame on blaming and making fun of her when she has no control over what I do with my sport. If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity. This was long time coming. Shame on these people that hide and take a dig. And I don't need any respect for this post. Have some compassion and respect her. Think of how your sister or girlfriend or wife would feel if someone trolled them and very conveniently rubbished them in public. #nocompassion#nocommonsense."

Some looked at it as a chivalrous gesture and others as a way to lure her back, but his friends claim it is Virat's way to saying thank you to Anushka, for standing by him through thick and thin. Will the two rekindle their love? Well, that's something time will tell.

KJo (currently in Rajasthan with ADHM team) retweeted a tweet quoting Virat's and so did Yuvraj, so the people working or close with them know enough to show support. Expecting them to be spotted together in/after April when he finishes with the world cup. Until then, the media will continue pakaoing people with their sources that share nothing new.
