Nowadays audiobooks have become very popular and seem to be a threat to the concept of actually reading a book.

The popularity of Audible and the fact that most of the recent books are available online indicate that the number of audiobook listeners are increasing in number.

Are there any fans of audiobooks here or do you still prefer actually reading a book?

Do you think that in this busy world an audiobook is good to be able to get through more books without having to actually sit down and read a book?

I personally think audiobooks are good for people who are dyslexic and find it difficult to read books as easily as a lot of us do.

I prefer books over audiobooks because for me listening to an audiobook takes more time, when i'm reading a books I can read with my head, interpret words as I wish to but when you're listening to someone reading I can't seem to get the feel.

I tried audiobooks a few years back (a friend had the entire HP audiobook set), but it doesn't work for me. I like reading. I can't concentrate on audiobooks for some reason.

True. Listening to an audiobook takes double the time reading a book would take.

An audiobook also takes away from imagining or interpreting the words as you would want to.

That being said, some of the audiobooks available on Audible are so well read out, you want to listen to them.

Oh ya listening to an audiobook requires paying attention to because if you miss out on even a couple of words you feel like going back and starting all over again which is time consuming.

I have started taking to audiobooks recently since I feel that I have so many books to read and very little time to read them.

What I have started doing is listening to a couple of chapters of a book and then deciding if I like it enough to want to read it.

If I like what I have heard I go ahead and read the book and if I don't take to the book based on the couple of chapters I have heard, I listen to the audiobook while commuting.

This way I feel like I have been getting through more books because honestly there are too many books and very little time to read them.
