Both Highway and Cocktail made Alia/Deepika the top actresses and it made them rise above their competition and colleges. It solidified their positions in Bollywood and gave their career a new lease of life... But whose performance do you like better between Highway and Cocktail?

Alia all the way.. Her performance was exceptional in Highway. That song tu kuja was one of the best song especially when you watch that song in the dark theatre its treat to watch.

Yes deepika too was awsm in cocktail :)

Alia gets my vote.

But it is partly because Highway was a far far far better film. The characterisation of Veera was better sketched. Veronica was more complex but the writing was all over the place. And I'm not confusing her inner turmoils or "flaws" as a human, I can see and appreciate them, but in terms of her character in the context of the film, the execution turned lazy, especially post interval.

But overall Deepika has improved a lot since then and is the more accomplished artiste at this particular point in time.

I watched Cocktail after seeing CE and YJHD and realized why this was breakthrough for DP. The role was interesting cocktail of looks, style and substance. DP rocked it.

After SOTY I written off Alia. Never thought she could act like that in Highway. But since Veronica's character was too more interesting than Veera my vote goes to DP.

This forum is amazing from comparing A-Z actresses to dp and the winners are always A-Z because in this forum everybody is better actor and more popular than dp. Dp has no star power and no acting talent according to this forum. Dp does not even have a single release, why not compare actresses who have multiple releases this year to each other? Why we have multiple topics on an actress who don't have a release and did not sign a Hindi film this year ?

For the purposes of this poll, Alia simply because it was her second film. I am one of those who criticizes starkids who are handed a career because of a last name. I did not think she was remarkable in SOTY. But I did an about turn because I had to by the sheer audacity of the choice, the determination to show critics that she more than deserved to be in the film industry and the work ethic. I could not but be impressed at what she did at such a young age.

I don't particularly care for DP or Alia and have been critical of them. I have even thought do they deserve to be there. But they won me over by their sheer work ethic and determination. You can see the work. Sometimes it bears fruit, sometimes it bombs. But the consistency is the hard work and determination that makes them stand apart when so many others coast by on looks or name. I know that as a movie goer even if I find their performance not to my liking, it is not due to apathy or arrogance or lack of effort. And that is all that is owed to me. The rest, the fashion, the look ,everything else is just noise.

Ok but you have to admit Alia was better? Plus she was a lot younger in Highway than Deepika was in Cocktail im sure that counts for something..

Alia's performance was compared to Meryl Streep so it was defiantly one of the top performances of the decade!
