"Don't Like Staying In Shit": PC on leaving BW!
Ishita hurried back inside shaking off the snow from her thick hair. The walk had done little to dispel away her gloom. After that disastrous night wid raman she had tried to throw herself back into work to forget him but it had not helped.
Sending back his leftover articles and the ring had only served to eliminate from her house physical reminders of him. Her thoughts had still centered around him. It had in fact intensified her loneliness and made her feel lost. She had wandered through the house later, searching in vain for something of his to hold close. Realizing how weak and desperate she had become ishita had called her brother on an impulse and told him that she wud be visiting him shortly.
When bala had met her at the airport she had fallen into his arms aching for some comfort. He had not said I- told- u- so and for that she had been grateful. He had somehow understood that she needed his support and had sensitively refrained from asking intrusive questions.
At her brother's place her 5 year old nephew was her only solace. When the little boy was around she got some respite from her thoughts of raman. It was during the hours when she was all alone that desolation and despair claimed her.
Her life stretched endlessly before her, barren and flat without raman. He had given colors to everyday he had been wid her. Even if they stayed at home reading a book or a script he made it special with his mere presence. He always made her laugh and she was missing it like hell.
Over the weeks she had been tempted to run back to him and say yes to whatever he offered. There were no guarantees in love or life and was nt taking that leap of faith what it was all about? Thought ishita to herself. But the thought of spending endless years yearning for his love just as she had longed for her parents love helped her stick to her resolve. She wanted all or nothing she decided.
Watching her brother and sister-in-law sent a pang through her sometimes. She wanted what they shared. The joy of showering the other person with love, unafraid of rejection and confident of it being returned manifold. Was she never meant to know that kind of love? Was she jinxed? She wondered in dismay as she waited for her nephew to return from school.
"ishu buaa.." screeched and excited voice as the door opened for him. The little boy came hurtling into her arms. "how was ur day?" asked her brother bala.
Ishita shrugged and forced a half hearted smile. She knew he worried for her so she tried to appear cheerful whenever he was around. She knew he hurt for her. "I went 4 a longgg walk...its beautiful outside," ishita said trying for an upbeat tone.
"so why is bhabhs not wid u?" ishita asked referring to her sister-in-law. They usually picked up her nephew together after school before heading home.
"there is a surprise farewell party planned tonight for a colleague so vandu stayed back to make few arrangements. I came by to drop shravu wid u," he said indicating the boy. " I will probably be joining them again. Is it all right?" he asked.
"absolutely...go ahead bhai and have fun. Dnt wory about us. We are going to have an awesome time together...nai shravu baby?" she declared fondly ruffling her nephew's hair.
"just remember ishu that I love u and always want the best for u, samjhi?" bala told her.
As a family they were not prone to expressive displays of emotion so she gave him a surprised look. "I have already agreed to babysit shravu so there is no need to get all mushy on me bhai..." she said jokingly.
Bala laughed and turned towards the door. "ek aur baat ishu...u can't kill the messenger samjhi?" he told her.
Ishita gave him a puzzled look at that coded message. "ab iska kya matlab hai bhai?" she asked him in confused tone.
"naaa nothing much just a thought for the day," he said evasively as he bid them both goodbye.
Ishita shook her head in bewilderment. That was really weird she thought as she locked the house behind her brother. She settled down with the boy to watch a cartoon movie after which she fed him dinner and put him to sleep. As she watched him sleep she wondered if she had ever have a husband and child to lavish her love upon.
It was in quiet moments like these that she wished raman was with her. She longed to hear his voice and see the mischief dancing in his silvery eyes. As she was drowned in her thoughts she heard the doorbell chime.
It startled her as it surely cud not be her brother or sister-in-law for they had their own key...then?? Maybe a neighbor she thought and moved towards the door to check before opening.
precap- the visitor and the grand confrontation.
how was this?
