Be it as Renuka in 'Kumkum' or Mohini in 'Kyunki', Tasneem Sheikh's lithe persona has endeared viewers. She talks about balancing her professional and personal life and her forthcoming marriage
Is it stressful doing two dailies?
It's a tough job as I have to look after my mother, a cancer patient. At times, I feel 'baas bahut ho gaya'. But I have to honour my professional commitments. Six years in this industry have taught me to balance my personal and professional life.
Won't marriage double the responsibilities?
Contrarily, Samir (a marine engineer) makes things easy for me. He balances me. He is the best thing to have happened in my life. I am thinking of getting married as soon as possible - within six to eight months.
What are the marriage preparations like?
I have just bought a new house and I want to turn it into our dream home. I am picking up stuff for the interiors. Instead of spending on clothes and shoes, I am purchasing bed sheets, kitchenware and bathroom items.
Is there going to be a dream honeymoon?
It's going to be a surprise gift from Samir. I am sure he will come up with something nice. But one place I want to visit is China (though not for the honeymoon). Its tradition, culture and religion fascinate me.
If not an actor, what would you have been?
I would have become an airhostess. I was also doing software engineering. Or else, I would have settled for being a cook. As Samir loves my cooking, I experiment with new recipes. I am proud of my Mughlai dishes. To be a good cook you should enjoy food as well. I enjoy eating out - especially at Legacy of China, Urban Tadka and Chawla's.
What has the profession gifted you?
It has given me a platform and recognition. I used to be a very naughty, bubbly, chirpy Tasneem who never understood the depth of relationships. But after playing different characters, I know how to handle them. I have matured a lot.
