Monday - Painful Past
So the week started with the memories of the past that brought rifts between Suman-Shravan. On one hand Suman was excited to see the gift from him, not able to digest how she had gotten her friend back. The subtle shyness and her putting the dress on herself remembering the last time he had taken her shopping for a prom dress showed how relief and happy she was that the same Shravan she knew was back and he was her good friend once again. The very friend she had missed and longed for 10 years remembering the hurt she had caused him. But for at the moment, he was her Shravan...the Shravan had forgiven her and moved on from the incident, but not from her.
However on the other side, Shravan hadn't forgotten a thing. He remembered the past as a painful reminder of his goal in the part; to make the girl he once loved feel the same rejection and hurt he once felt. He had loved her so much at a young age, did everything she asked him to silently, felt hurt yet didn't express it when she ignored his friendship to maintain her image and all he ever wanted in return was some love from her. All he wanted was one night with her, the prom night to go out with the girl he loved. But all he got in return of the love he gave her was rejection. He wasn't a cool dude she wanted to go with since it was good for her image. Instead he was only the loser geek who was there to admire her from a distance as he did her homework. That's all he was left to feel like. A person only meant to be used since he wasn't cool dude.
The picture he held in his hand remained a harsh reality check as he was made to feel like a person who never fit in, the one who was meant to stay in the back, the friend that was never acknowledged...the ignored not so cool dude. The same picture filled him with very strong feelings for her, but they weren't feelings of affection and love instead were feelings of hurt and rejection. Now all he wished for was her to feel the same way she had and so he was ready to make her feel the same...
Tuesday - Wrapping up Feelings
She told him she didn't care for his gift and he could take it back. He knew that the gift meant so much more to her and she wanted it. So when she attempted to brush off the gift, the dress she was blushing at, it was nowhere near convincing as she couldn't hide how much that gift meant to her. It was like the last gift she had received from him 10 years back and this one was special. She didn't want to let go of the wrapped present, but she couldn't take it happily. She couldn't let him know about the feelings that were still unnamed for herself.
But what she didn't know was that Shravan could read her without any effort. The wrapping paper was an excuse, he knew her way too well to fall for her pretense of not caring. He knew his Sumo, he knew she cared and he could tell she didn't want him to know. He didn't want to be her friend, he didn't want to be that vulnerable Shravan he was years back, yet he couldn't help but be that same friend and admirer of hers who could read her feelings even though she tried to hide them.
He knew her too well to ever fall for her pretense...
Wednesday - A Car Ride
He wanted her to come to the party and she wanted to go to the party as his friend. Under the pretext of helping her, he wanted to convince her to come while she got the chance to make him acknowledge her as his friend. He did...on online. But it wasn't enough, she wanted that one name, her name from his mouth that gave off a friendly feeling, not something formal to address her. She tried to convince yet he found his way out of it.
Amidst all this came a slip of tongue that showed the wave of jealousy and possessiveness in her. His profile picture that she had been looking at and a woman in the picture. A friend or a girlfriend? Did her Shravan, her "friend" really have a girlfriend? It seems like the though didn't quite make her happy as she couldn't help but question him on the same. She needed to know and in her curiosity, she couldn't hold back her question forgetting it would reveal her checking his pictures.
Slowly diverting away from the small slip she made, she went back to what she really wanted to get out of the car ride, her name...Sumo, just once from his mouth. She wanted that name since it was more than a mere name coming from him. It meant their friendship, a symbol of his forgiveness, and it meant that he was going to be that Shravan she always knew.
But he wasn't giving in, because he didn't want her to know. He didn't want to her see that he was still deep inside that vulnerable, innocent and rejected Shravan. He tried to divert the topic as it came up and avoid calling her the name he would call her with affection. The name that was his friend's, crush's, and the girl's who hurt him. But he was unable to stop himself for long as he ended up calling her Sumo.
He said her name. And she was won over. All she wanted was that one name and he wanted to avoid was that one name. But some things are just inevitable. Like was his affection for her as he called her name, like his inability to stop his own self from calling her by her nickname. And there were just some things to special to be explained like a special name from a special person.
A call for Sumo from Shravan...
Thursday - Care
A parcel only meant for her. He sent it and made sure no one else got it. He told himself it was because he wanted her to reach the party so he could play out what he wanted to, but was it really? Was it the fact that she wouldn't reach the party that bothered him or was it her being ill? Did he not care about her and was only concerned with his own revenge? Was he trying to get rid of her excuse not to come or was he trying to get rid of the concern he had for her? He couldn't see her ill, after all no matter how much he was upset with her, no matter how much he was hurt by her...she was his Sumo. His first crush and his friend. Though his mind denied it, his heart couldn't and he had to do something for her.
A parcel sent by him. It wasn't anything special, yet it was more than what she could have asked for. The medicine sent by him was enough to overwhelm her...his gesture was enough to overwhelm her. She felt his care and concern for her, it made her feel as if her friend was slowly returning to her. She thought she had just gotten a glimpse of the old Shravan who would be this worried about her and this concern about her when she was ill. For her, his care was a sign of their old friendship or maybe more than that...
And then there was her restlessness over the dress gifted by him. That dress meant for her than anything at the moment. Was it because it was her way into getting into the party? No, it was because it was the dress she believed he had given to her for their friendship. She was restless upon not finding the dress because he gave it to her like he had given her a dress years back. And she couldn't disappoint him. She didn't want to hurt him by not wearing what he had gifted her. She said that she would be able to go the party once she found the dress, but she could have worn any other dress like her aunt had said. Alas she couldn't because no other dress would be given by him, any other dress would disappoint him and she couldn't do that to him...
Friday - Settling Scores
A picture, a couple, a sad face in the background. 10 years back it had been him, now it was her. His payback had begun. She called out to him, but he walked past like she had walked by him many times. She assumed it was a misunderstanding and brushed off the matter. She entered the party, continued to look for him and continued to believe that things would fall into place. She saw him and relief was on her face. They danced as she rambled on about the misunderstanding while he was indifferent towards it all. All he could was think about the upcoming event that would take place. How he would make her feel the way she had made him feel years back. And that's exactly what he did.
He questioned. His every question carrying his pain that had been locked away in his heart for years. Why did she never accept him as a friend? Why did she feel embarrassed by him? Why did she choose a cool dude over him? And now why did she want to apologize? Was it because he was now handsome and rich? That's what it seemed like to him. The same Suman who rejected him stating he wasn't good for her reputation was now asking for his friendship, was it for a reputation? The same Suman who never contacted him was now asking him to accept her friend request. He wasn't a toy, he wasn't a joke and he wasn't the same Shravan who would let her have her way with him and his feelings.
He wanted to make her understand his pain by feeling it herself and he did so. He made her feel humiliated, rejected and as if her friendship didn't mean a thing. His every question, thought, and hurt that he had kept to himself for 10 long years came out in the open in a full party with everyone who ever knew them in their teenage years. He openly questioned the friendship that meant the world to him making her believe that it meant nothing to him, creating the same situation she had created years back...but he switched the tables. He hurt her and fulfilled his payback.
But what he didn't know was that the change wasn't sudden, that she wasn't his friend because he was handsome and rich now. She had been waiting for his return for years. It was because she had realized what he was to her. Her one mistake which took her friend away from her also taught her his value. It didn't matter to her whether he was a tall, handsome and successful man today for she would have had the same feelings for her geeky, not so popular Shravan as well. She wasn't what he thought she was...
She could have contacted him, but how? She didn't contact, for what good would a texted sorry do? But now it seemed like any sorry wouldn't do anything. For she had lost her friend 10 long years back. He was no longer her Shravan, she had done this to him... she had lost her friend. He had changed due to her, but not how she had ever wished. This Shravan hated her and everything she had ever done. She could see that the man in front of her was what remained of what she did to her friend. He had changed due to a mistake made in her teenage years. He was hurt and now he was on a path to hurt anything and anyone who had hurt him. And there was only one person who could top that list...she would...
This Week: Now the real story will begin. Shravan in his anger that he had let build up for years committed the same mistake she had in their childhood and hurt her equally if not more. Suman being the woman she is, will not let him step all over her and treat her the way he did. My prediction is that Suman will distance herself from him and now the question remains...will he realize how much she means to him once she moves away like she had realized his worth once he had left her?
