Salman in fresh run-in

Apparently Salman Khan just cannot steer clear of trouble. The car in which the actor was travelling early yesterday morning collided with a motorcycle at Worli junction, injuring a policeman, at around 3 am.

The constable was admitted to Nair Hospital with a broken limb, and has now been discharged.

The Worli police booked a case against Canadian model 'Broke Stevan Clark' (according to the police records), who was later granted bail. Clark was said to be driving the car when it collided with the motorcycle.

However, Khan's advocate Dipesh Mehta denied the incident early this morning, "Neither Salman nor his car were involved in the accident. These are just rumours," said Mehta.

When told this paper had exclusive pictues which showed Salman at the scene of the accident, Mehta said, "Well, he must be travelling on the same road when he stepped in to help. Salman is known to always help whenever he sees an accident."

'Salman tried to escape'

However, contrary to the police and Mehta's versions, an eyewitness, Jaffarbhai, told MiD DAY, "The woman (Broke) was not behind the wheels at the time of the incident. And Salman tried to escape from the scene of crime."

The eyewitness account corroborates what constable Rajendra Pathare said.

Pathare, who was on night shift, told MiD DAY that Salman tried to escape from the scene. "But I prevented him from doing so until my seniors arrived," Pathare said.

Worli police officials said a mob had gathered to attack the actor and the model, but they arrived before that.

Jaffarbhai said he dialed the police emergency number 100 and the cops arrived within minutes. Police records indicate Salman and Broke were in a Swift car (MH01 VA 2039), heading south.

Constable Santosh Dalvi was riding pillion on a motorcycle (MH01 EA 1631) with Yadav from Mahalaxmi, towards the police quarters, when the accident took place at Worli Junction.

Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) K L Prasad said he was "having the matter looked into". Salman and actor Jackie Shroff were at the Worli police station, during the formalities.
