If the intention is to hurt a group of people then better not make a movie on that.
If the intention is to start a healthy debate/discussion and make a positive contribution to the society/world then make the movie and leave to the audience to change their perspective on the issue or stick to it.
I haven't watched Aligarh so don't know what it was on. I know the story of Neerja (movie) and do think such movies should be made to show that courage even in the gloomiest, darkest hours can bring a change to the world and save some lives, if not all.
Same with Bajarani Bhaijaan (haven't watched it, but know the story somewhat). Such movies can encourage discussion and perhaps change a few minds for the better.
As for issues BW could make movies on, I'd rather they make movies on topics that can change people's lives, that affect everyday life of the audience such as gender-inequality (be it at workplace or home or anywhere), dowry, bribery, neoptism, etc. Issues that are relevant to everyday life not just global issues like English Vinglish (on my to-watch list). It wasn't a subject that is discussed very much but it is an issue nonetheless and does require people to change their mindset a little. To see things from a different perspective, the perspective of a mid-40s-50 year old woman.
