Shruti lovely post. Agree with each and everything that you have written. Not only is a woman being blamed for not having a child but if she gives birth to a girl child then too she's the only one to be blamed. Sometimes the in - laws even try to get the husband remarried in order to get an heir.When a marraige doesn't work the woman is being blamed. A man can have 100 loopholes and the society turns a blind eye,but if a woman has even a tiny loophole the society is ready to pounce on her. If a woman is seen talking with a man it's assumed that she's having an affair but a man can have 10 such female friends and noone says anything. At times even the girl's family is not spared. Don't know how long a woman will have to bear this torture.

It will continue if we woman don't raise voice against it. Because if we need rights, we have to stand up, stand up and question.

Instead of telling Sita shouldn't have crossed Lakshman Rekha, we should tell because she crossed Ram was able to complete the mission of killing Ravan. To people who tell Sita suffered the banishment, we need to tell Sita refused to give second agnipareeksha and in disappearing into earth she makes it clear she does not want to continue as a wife.

To the people telling Panchali caused war, we should tell was it wrong on her part to ask justice when a hall full of men were sitting mute to the spectacle of disrobing her. We should also tell because she asked the question Pandavas got their kingdom back, if not they would have been slaves to Kauravas.

And it not only includes men, it includes woman also who blame other woman for being independent, having a thought of their own.

Wonderful post again Shruthi, and great discussions too from everyone.

So rather than add anything to the discussion, other than that you are all perfectly right, I am going to comment on another point made here, about how the books like Ramayana and Mahabharata have still not lost their relevance in today's world.

That's because core human emotions, relationships and values never change

Only the external settings changes. But we will be able to draw these learnings and messages only if we dive below the surface and dig deeper for the meaning.

Different versions add different dimensions to the same story, and these have evolved so much, that it's difficult to differentiate between the original and add ons.

What really happened 1000s of years ago? How much of it is history, how much mythology? What was written by valmiki, and what was added by Tulsidasji or how did Rajagopalachariji add to it, are purely to make the story contemporary and address the need of the people.

It's because these stories have allowed themselves to be rewritten time and again, with different twists that has kept them alive and relevant and loved.

But in all these versions what has not changed is the definition of purity and goodness and virtue!

And that shines through always, and that's what must be our takeaway too.

Yes Arshics. We have to discuss and we have to take the right messages. I am happy that this show is showing each woman's feelings on the incidents that happened. How they reacted. Because many times these epics were told only from the perspective of man. Why he did, what he did. But never on why she did, what she did.

And I am happy they are not making Kaikeyi an absolute vamp. But a woman with emotions. If Dasrath had told her yes he gave a vachan and if her child is eldest he will become king. She would have understood as Bharath is not eldest. Instead the question he took it as a personal attack and went on rampaging her feelings.

Agree. Even in today's times when a girl is raped everyone asks what she was doing at so and so time and so and so place,why was she wearing so and so type of clothes etc etc.But ,does anyone accuse the rapist? No. Only the victim is accused and the culprit is gone scot free.

Exactly my blood boils when I here such comments on rape cases

Draupadi laughed at them and they felt insulted, fine. But does that gives you license to rape? A man insults his wife or a girl in front of everyone by eve teasing , then what should a girl do? There's no one to help. People just become mere spectators. No one has the courage to stand up to them. But, these same people are ready to blame a rape victim. I guess even the girl gets the license of raping them by tearing their clothing in front of everyone.
