First TEI OS. Be gentle to me!
Questions
Twinkle stood silently in the balcony adjoining her room. There were too many storms around her and she couldn't decide who needed an umbrella the most. When she walked into her house, she saw the questions in her mother's eyes but she was already too drained to give anyone in the family any answers. She had silently walked over towards her room and locked the door behind her, walking towards the balcony and letting herself away from all the accusations and questions.
"Maybe I shouldn't have hidden this from Kunj. After the competition, I should have told him." she could feel the same thought turning in her mind inside out. She could remember his voice breaking over the thought of losing his father, his eyes begging her to stop talking and the disappointment that fueled the rage as he walked away from her. "But if I had told him everything, he would've gotten more angry then this and over Papa ji!"
She remembered the look of disbelief on his face before it was replaced by hurt and denial when he saw the pictures on the screen. "Kunj would've believed the pictures over me or Papa ji."
The light flicked open in the neighboring house across the street. Her eyes wandered for a moment before settling at the half open door of the balcony. She smiled to herself at the irony. This man, who is her husband, had his house right next to hers and visited every summer from abroad during his adolescence and she didn't know anything about him. She didn't even know the complete list of his likes and dislikes but she was so much deeply in love with him.
She saw a figure moved around the room in frustration and then sitting on the edge of the bed. She stood silently for a while hoping to see him walk out but she knew that he would know better then to walk out of the room and find her standing opposite him.
"Why can't you trust my judgement for once instead of calling it bachpana?" she was taken aback by her own thoughts for a moment as they echoed around her ears and flew in the wind. A part of her wanted him to stand by her and tell her that he trusted her judgement. That he understood why she hid such a grave matter. That he knew that she could never think of hurting him or any one in their family. She stood silently there for a while longer until walking back into the room. She pulled out one of her old suits from the closet before walking towards the bathroom.
**"Twinkle! Twinkle puttar darvaza khol puttar!"
"Maa. Sare sawaal kal kar lena please." She replied walking towards the door and silently standing in front of it.
"Koi sawaal nahi karna hai Twinkle. Bas sirf darvaza khol de." Leela's voice was quieter then before.
She heaved a sigh before pulling the lock out and pushing the door open. The weariness in her eyes was evident from how much they had swollen from crying. The hollowness in her face took him aback for a second.
"Knuj tujh se baat karan chata hai." Leela spoke again, asking her to hear her husband out. She didn't want to hear his accusations right now. The fury was still well-lit in his eyes as she stared at him blankly. She looked at her mother and nodded, walking back towards the bed and settling herself.
Once he felt his mother-in-law walk away, he closed the door shut behind her and walked towards his wife who was sitting with her eyes downcast. "I know you didn't leak the pictures. I said that before too."
"I know you did." Her voice was quieter. It was also more tired and weary.
"Why did you leave. Bebe stopped you."
"I know what family means to you. I know you love your mother. How can I make you choose between the woman who gave you life and the woman who was forcefully pushed into your life. It was an obvious choice."
Her felt his insides burning again. What was she playing at? Didn't they just tell each other that they love each other just this morning.
She saw him clench his fists at her answer. "I know Knuj. I was wrong. I shouldn't have kept all the information to myself."
"Why do you think you are not important for me?" she stood up turning away from her. "You are just as important to me Twinkle as the rest of my family."
"I know."
"Then why did you walk out?"
"Because I was suppose to Kunj. This is what good bahu's do. This is what I needed to do to know that one day I can be welcomed back with dignity. Not because I am suppose to be there."
He looked at her with disbelief. "Twinkle."
"I am responsible for everything, right. I will go to the police station tomorrow morning and I will find out where did the blackmailers go. You should go. You need to make sure that everyone else is okay Kunj. You are going to be there rock." Her voice was solemn.
"What about me?"
"You know I am always going to be there for you." she said standing up and walking towards him. She could his body trembling because of the storm brewing inside it. How was she suppose to make him trust her judgment for once. The desperation pooled in her eyes as she stood in front of him, her lip quivering from the intensity of the sudden rush of emotions.
"I do trust you Twinkle. I just wish you trusted me."
"I trust you more then my own mother Kunj. You knew everything about me when she didn't know how I spent half of my life."
"Then why didn't you tell me anything. What if something would've happened to you when you were "handling" the situation?" He felt his voice rising. "I would've been able to say something to Ma when she asked you to leave. I could've stopped you from crying. I could've done something Twinkle!!"
"Everything will be fine." her voice broke as she turned away from him. "Papa ji will get better. and those blackmailers would be caught. Everything would be fine. Just go now."
Kunj stared at her back for as long as he could remember. He wanted her to hold him. He wanted to make sure she was going to be okay. But nothing seemed okay. Nothing was in his control. Everything was only spiraling further away. He thought he would come here and ask her all the questions but there were more questions then before now.
"Go Kunj." she almost pleaded to him.
"I'll be back." there was a hint of aggression in his tone.
"I know." she replied as she felt him over away and walk out. She was going to fix everything. She was going to make sure that everybody understood what was true and what was wrong. The wind brushed past her as she closed the door behind him and pulled herself on the bed. She felt tears roll down her cheeks as she closed her eyes. The pain felt more real now then it did ever before. Burying her head into the pillow, she let her pain slowly drown her away from the world.
