a girl is gifted, can play amazingly well in her chosen sport , parents even encourage her but everything grinds to a halt the min the girl is marriageable age. Most are middle class girls ultimately groomed to be wives and mothers and even worse sports in India for women is filled with sleazy politics

Politics has been the same for all but little more rigid with women. Indian society don't encourage sports. They are only marriage-oriented when it comes to girls.

My thought exactly. it is also not very encouraged for men either. For women it is marriage for men it is some stable job/source of income.

Ideally, women are expected to work as well as look after the house after marriage. When children focuses on sports, the parents tell them that it cannot give them daily bread & butter. They will get the recognition as long as they excel in that. Afterwards, no one will even care for them. Whereas in other countries, they themselves train up the youngsters & earn their living.
