Chapter 4

"Rahul... rahul..." maanvi kept calling out but he simply left. She couldn't find him. Maanvi went further looking for rahul and as she turned around the corner, there was someone else looking for her in the streets. At first maanvi didn't recognize this stranger, but when he took another step and his features looked more distinguished...

"Ghosh babu aap?..." maanvi recognized the Bengali outfit, medium height, and friendly face from her visit to Durgapur jagir.

Ghosh ji~ "Namaskar maanvi ji. Aap iss sunsaan jagah par kya kar raha hai?"

Maanvi~ "Ghosh ji, wo mere pati hain na, rahul... main unhe hi dhoond te hua yahan ayi thi. Par aap yahan kaise?"

Ghosh Ji~ "Maanvi ji, main aapke liye ek zaroori sandesh lekar aaya tha. Par jab main aapke ghar gaya tab maine aapko bahar jate dekha. Bas tabhi se main aapke peeche peeche aa raha tha. Phir maine aapko iss jagah aate dekha, to mujhe aapki fikar hui. Yeh jagah aapke liye surakshit nahi hai. Chaliye main aapko ghar chod deta hoon."

Maanvi looks around for any sign of rahul but then decides to head home. They both take a taxi and Ghosh babu drops maanvi back at sabarwal mansion.

Maanvi~ "Ghosh ji, aap kisi sandesh ki baat kar rahe the. Kiska sandesh? Aur kya baat hai?"

Ghosh ji~ "maanvi ji, abhi to bahut der ho gayi hai. Jo baat main aapko batana chahta hoon uske baare me main aapse kal milta hoon. Abhi aapko aaram karna chahiye." Saying that Ghosh babu takes his leave and maanvi is left all by herself with a tower load of questions.

Maanvi arrives in her room and changes into her night-dress still thinking about what has happened in the alley. She couldn't get past that shadowy figure that seemed like rahul but something about him was feeling very odd. Maanvi slides into the bed still playing the incident in her mind trying to make sense of that encounter, waiting for the sleep to slowly drown her.

Next morning maanvi wakes up really early and gets ready. She has to meet Ghosh babu and find out what was such important that he came all the way to Delhi looking for her himself. What does he have to say? Is it something about rahul? Past few days anything and everything that happens seemed to be connected to rahul for maanvi. Whether in end they turn out to be not related to him.

"Kya ho gaya hai mujhe?... Kyun har baat rahul se hi jodne lagi hoon?... Kaisa jadu kar diya hai tumne rahul?... Kal to pata nahi wo kaun tha jisne mujhe bachaya? Par kyun bar bar yahi lag raha hai ki wo tum the rahul..." maanvi has made this a habit of self-talk everyday now.

Maanvi stands in front of mirror and applies vermilion remembering the day rahul married her. "From that day till date, rahul has never backed out... not even in slightest... from his responsibilities as a husband. And now it is my turn to do the same. Its second day since rahul is missing and there has been no demand from kidnappers. That might mean that rahul is in great danger..." thinking that she entered the small temple room and prays to the gods.

"O Lord Almighty! Nothing is ever hidden from you. I may have sinned by ever doubting your motives when I got married to rahul. But I want to ask forgiveness for them and only wish that rahul be safe, no matter the price. I will do anything I can to bring him back home safely. Please grant me your favor and strength to succeed in doing so."

With these prayers maanvi put down some offerings of fruits and sweets to the gods. Then she leaves to go and meet Ghosh babu first and find out what message he brought for her. Maanvi takes one of the drivers to take her to the hotel where Ghosh babu was staying. After arriving there, maanvi goes to the room and knocks, Ghosh babu answered.

"Aiye maanvi ji. Main aap ka hi intezaar kar raha tha. Maaf kijiyega ki kal main aapko bata nahi paaya. Main sirf aap ke liye sandesh hi nahi, par kisi ke saath aaya hoon jo aapse milna chahti hain. Wo aapse rahul sir ke bare me baat karna chahti hain."

Maanvi~ "Milna chahti hain? Kaun milna chahti hain? Aur rahul ke baare me kya baat karni hai?"

To answer that, Ghosh babu left the room and brought someone with him. It was the famous aura reader; Kajal, sonali's best friend.

"Kajal aunty aap?..." maanvi surprised and little confused.

Kajal~ "Hello maanvi. Ghosh babu ko maine hi bheja tha tumhe bulane ke liye. Main tumse milna chahti thi."

Maanvi~ "Ji, Ghosh ji ne bataya tha ki rahul ke baare me kuch baat karni hai. Par iss tarah yahan par? Aap to Mommy ji ki achi saheli hain. Apko iss tarah milne bulane ki kya zaroorat thi? Aap to ghar par humesha welcome hain."

Kajal~ "Maanvi, baat sensitive hai aur uske liye mujhe koi aisi jagah chahiye jiska un powers ka relation nahi ho. Main chahungi ki tum meri baat ko dhyaan se suno. Rahul ki jaan khatare main hai aur usko sirf tum bacha sakti ho. Jo tum soch rahi ho us wajah se nahi, doosri wajah se khatara hai. Wo wajah sirf raj aur Sonali jaante hain."

Maanvi shocked "Rahul ki jaan ko khatara... mommy ji aur papa... par?... kyun?... kaise?..." there were millions of questions arousing like a tide in her mind right now.

Kajal~ "Meri baat samaj ne ke liye tumhe pehle poori kahani jaan ni zaroori hai. Aur ye sab jaan ne ke baad tum iss baare mein kisi se koi baat nahi karogi ye wada karna hoga. Kisi se bhi nahi matlab kisi se bhi nahi, Raj aur Sonali se bhi nahi."

Maanvi tried to recover from her shock and thought for a moment before agreeing to the terms. Ghosh ji who was there understood the sign from Kajal and left the two of them alone for the rest of the conversation. Kajal passed down some list to Ghosh ji with some money to try and collect all the stuff as mentioned in the list and meet at the rendezvous point.

After that Kajal started narrating the whole story.

Kajal mentioned how raj wanted so much success, fame, money in his life that no one could ever match. For that he never had the stomach to work hard, or patience to wait for it to pay off. In his need to gain the heights of success as per his desires, soon he started to seek dark ways. And his advices came from the one person he now calls "Guru ji". Raj never concerned himself with the price that comes with the use of dark ways. What guru ji suggested, raj did so in his greed and hunger for more money and fame. But he would have never known that one of the deeds would cast down a terrible curse on his first born; Rahul. Kajal pointed out how maanvi must have wondered why Raj and Sonali conducts so many pujas regarding rahul. It is because rahul has that curse on him and how this year those same dark forces will try to claim the price for the deeds Raj did 10 years back.

Kajal elaborated how she spent past three weeks finding all the information she could gather and she also revealed that Sonali acquired maanvi's kundli from her mother. After studying that kundli, and finding these details about curse, she has been able to find a way to save rahul. She can only help and guide through the process but it can only be done by maanvi. Also maanvi will need some more help when they will conduct the process of freeing the tiger spirit to save rahul.

Kajal also pointed out that guru ji might be another problem. He is trying to bind the spirit to Rahul's body because only after that he can harness the powers that tiger spirit has. Kajal warns that if he succeeds, not only will it kill rahul but with these powers, no one knows what evil plans he may have in store for everyone including sabarwals. Ghosh babu knows some of the story and has been willing to help. Kajal asks maanvi to bring at least two more people who can handle situation if something goes wrong. Whoever maanvi choose, must choose very carefully. Someone who can keep an open mind and not judge rahul over this as this is not his fault.

At first maanvi didn't wanted to believe what Kajal just told, but as Kajal pointed out abilities that may have been noticed in past few days that seemed out of the ordinary, maanvi wished it was all wrong. But all the guesses Kajal made about strong smelling, hearing, ability to sense danger and other changes fits perfectly with the recent events. Even the temporary loss of his own whereabouts, they were all effects of rahul being possessed by tiger spirit.

After the whole serious conversation, maanvi left for home. On her way, she kept thinking about how Raj and Sonali has kept this whole thing a secret from everyone. Because of Raj and guru ji, Rahul's life is in mortal danger. Maanvi will never forgive them for this. But right now is not the time to dwell on what has happened in past, she needs to do everything she can to help save rahul. Two more people Kajal ji said, who can maanvi rely on to help with discretion?

"Dada... wo humesha se hi mere har kaam me saath rahe hain. Wo mera saath zaroor denge. Dusra sujoy?... nahi, sujoy nahi. Usse to rahul bilkul pasand nahi hain. Dada ko bhale hi rahul pasand nahi ho par wo mere liye purani baatoon ko bhula kar meri madad karenge. Par dusra kaun?..." maanvi kept thinking who else could she trust with this.

Maanvi arrives at home and finds the ACP waiting inside. Dadi ji and Sonali were there with him.

ACP~ "Hello maanvi ji. Main aapse hi milne aaya tha."

Maanvi~ "Namaste ACP sahab. Rahul ke baare main kuch pata chala?"

ACP~ "Ji ek achi khabar hai. Aaj subah ek dusre case ki investigation ke dauraan mere ek aadmi ne un 6 gundoon me se ek ko us area me pehchan liya. Uss gunde ne bhagne ki koshish ki par mere aadmiyoon ne usse pakad liya hai. He is in my custody, and my team is interrogating him as we speak. We are also looking for any signs of rahul in that area. We will find him soon for sure."

Sonali~ "Thank you ACP sahab. This is good news. Bas ab mera rahul jaldi ghar aa jaye."

ACP~ "Yes, Mrs. Sabarwal. We will do our best to get rahul back with his family very soon."

Maanvi was happy with ACP's assurance. And now she was thinking if she can trust ACP with what she was going to do to save rahul. She doesn't have time to go on looking for someone else she could trust. So she decides to try and convince ACP to help with the process. But she needs to be very careful about what she says next because it is not something anyone will be willing to trust so easily.

As ACP gets up to leave, maanvi offers to escort him back to his jeep. When ACP and maanvi are out of everyone's earshot, ACP surprised maanvi with his observation.

ACP~ "Maanvi ji, aap mujhse kuch kehna chahti hain? Kuch hai jo iss case ke bare me mujhe nahi pata hai?"

Maanvi controls herself and asks "Aapko kaise pata ki main aapse akele me kuch baat karna chahti hoon?"

ACP~ "Maanvi ji, logon ko jaan na aur unko padna mere kaam ka hissa hai. Aap jo bhi kehna chahti hain, bina dare, bina kisi hesitation ke, mujse keh sakti hain. You can trust me."

Maanvi tells him that this may not be easy to understand but this case is not so simple or even normal as it may seem. She cannot give in the details as of yet due to the sensitive nature of the problem. But he needs to assure her that she can count on him to help with something and make sure nothing goes wrong because if it does goes wrong everyone maybe facing a great danger.

ACP thinks for a moment and then assures her that he is a protector of the people. And if what she says is true and a lot is depending on this, she can count him in. He will do whatever needs to be done to help and if needed be, he can bring his very trusted men to help out as well.

With that ACP takes his leave and promises to stay in touch with her. He will also check on with his trusted men if they can be available to help out and can treat these situations delicately and with discretion.
