Day Three: Part II
When Randhir woke up, it was already dark outside. He glanced down beside him and saw that Sanyukta was still sleeping soundly. He understood that she was sleeping like a baby because she was sick, but what about him? How did he sleep for so long? The worst part was that he still had to complete the task.
He was mad at himself for not completing it, but Sanyukta would be even angrier at him. His own anger, he may be able to handle, but Sanyukta's wrath was something else completely. He couldn't face it.
Finally getting out of the bed, he stretched his arms and freshened up before leaving Sanyukta in the room and going downstairs to work on his machine. He had to come up with an innovative idea for a remote controlled machine.
As soon as he got to work, he lost himself - it was like he had completely forgotten that he didn't have much time. He always went to another world completely when he would work on his passions. It was only when he felt a familiar pair of arms wrap around him from behind that he was shaken out of it.
Turning around, his eyes landed on Sanyukta, who had come down after changing her clothes and wrapping a shawl around herself. She still looked sick.
"Randhir, you should have woken me up," she said, and Randhir placed a hand on her forehead.
It was still burning.
"Sanyukta, go back upstairs and rest," he told her. "I'll work on it."
"No... it's a team effort," she said weakly and went to see what he was working on.
Randhir followed her and grabbed her arm before turning her around so he could gaze intensely into her eyes.
"Don't be stubborn," he said darkly. "Go and sleep."
"No," she refused.
She was predictable. He wanted to tell her that it was enough - she couldn't be crazy like this to sacrifice her health for a project that he could manage without her, but he knew that she wouldn't take it well.
"Alright then. Stay," he said, letting go of her.
She looked surprised that he had given in so easily. Sanyukta then shrugged and picked up a screwdriver before making a messy bun with her hair and placing the screwdriver inside it to hold it in place. Randhir smiled - even like that, she looked beautiful.
Randhir then showed her what he had been working on and she nodded.
"Great idea," she commented, and then proceeded to help him assemble the parts to make the machine.
Another few hours passed just like this, with both of them hard at work. It was only when Sanyukta stumbled backwards, that Randhir got concerned. He dropped what he was doing and rushed over to her, grabbing her waist to hold her steady.
"What happened?" he asked anxiously.
"M - my head hurts," she murmured. "I feel dizzy."
"Obviously," Randhir said, rolling his eyes. "You're working so hard when you should be resting."
"Maybe you're right. I should rest," she told him, holding his arms.
"I am right," he told her, and then let go of her waist before removing the screwdriver from her hair and holding her hand instead. "Come, I'll drop you upstairs."
She nodded and leaned against him as they went to the elevator together. It was three in the morning and nobody was around. She closed her eyes as she leaned into him and Randhir could feel that she was sweating.
Why couldn't she take care of herself?
As soon as they got to their floor, Randhir helped her into the room and laid her down on the bed. He pulled the covers to her chin and kissed her forehead lovingly.
"Randhir," she whispered. "Work on the project okay?"
"Mhmm," he said, "I will. Don't worry."
"We have to beat LITS," she mumbled, her eyes closing.
Randhir sat on the bed next to her and started to stroke her hair. How could he tell her that for now she was more important for him than the project? If he made any indication to her that he would stay here by her side instead of going downstairs, she would freak out.
Soon her steady breathing filled the room and she fell asleep. Randhir didn't stop stroking her hair though, because he enjoyed it, and he wanted to provide comfort to her even while she wasn't feeling well.
He leaned down towards her and kissed her cheek softly.
"I promise, I'll love you come what may," he told her and he felt her hand involuntarily reach up to wrap around his leg. "No matter what happens, I won't leave your side."
He meant every bit of what he was saying to her. He knew she was scared right now - terrified of someone else coming in and hurting him, and she was trying to protect him, and he hated that she was hiding this from her... but he had to stand by her side and love her, because walking away was not an option for him. It never would be.
"I also swear that I am going to make you confess you want to be with me within these seven days," he said with a smirk, "Because no matter how hard you try to push me away, or no matter how serious you get, this bet is not going to die."
Randhir then pressed his lips against hers softly, still stroking her hair, before lying in bed next to her.
"The biggest truth though is that I love you," he confessed to her. "I love you so much... maybe more than you or I will ever understand."
He then wrapped an arm around her body, and rubbed her back lovingly. He didn't know how he had fallen asleep again, because he had already slept so much that day. Being around her just made him feel so relaxed that it was like all worry left him. What had to be done, could be done tomorrow. He completely forgot that he could wake up to an angry Sanyukta, irritated that he hadn't completed the task.
In the morning, he really was about to wake up to his doom, because when Sanyukta got angry, she got really angry, sparing nothing in front of her...especially not Randhir.
