I believe in todays day and age those from Pakistan should be known as Pakistanis...it just sound so much more polite...( I was raised abroad so have had friends that were called Pakis to taunt them them and riducle them) after all we are called Indians...not Indies....just a suggestion.

When Indians and Pakistanis first migrated to England, Canada and USA, they were victims of Racism. Those that were vicitimzed were called Pakis and were spit in the face by "white" people. This was ages ago...but for many who had friends and family members that were ridiculed by such words which meant they were hired for jobs because they were brown, weren't allowed to go into places because they were brown, it was hurtful.

In England, Canada or USA calling some a Paki is rude, it's like calling a black person the N word. It's not anything against you I just don't like the word Paki or Pakis...I prefer to use Pakistani...exactally in the same manner that someone would say Indian, Bengali, Nepalian, Arifcan, Canadian, etc.

A lot of young people won't know much about the racism faced by brown people in the 1950-early 80's which still exists in many places today.

Hope that englightens a little.

Thanks,
