He normally hated seeing her cry, but today he was grateful that she was here in front of him, safe and sound. This time instead of consoling her, he was on his knees, tears falling from his own eyes, as he held onto her clasped hands. He had truly thought that he would never get the chance to hold her hands again... he thought that he wouldn't get to see her again, to kiss her again, to feel her again.

"Sanyukta," he said softly, and his voice was cracked... he wasn't sure if she heard the pain, the longing, the desire to have her back in his voice.

She opened her eyes and it was like her words were caught in her throat for a moment, before she finally whispered, "Randhir."

She had been chanting his name all this while, but when he finally appeared in front of her, she looked like she was dreaming.

Sanyukta looked down at his hands which were holding hers and then back up into his eyes. She sniffled and squeezed her eyes shut before opening them again.

"I can't be dreaming," she murmured, "You're really here."

He smiled at her through his tears.

"I am here," he told her lovingly.

Then he released her hands from his and then reached up to cup her face gently.

He leaned forward and touched her nose with his.

She started to cry again and this time, choked on her own tears.

"Randhir," she sobbed, her tears falling down her cheeks.

He noticed a teardrop fall to her lips and he quickly pecked her soft lips.

"Nothing's allowed on those lips except me," he whispered against her lips and started to kiss her deeply.

She clutched his shirt tightly and kissed him back, still stunned by what was happening.

Finally, when they broke the kiss, she started to cry again and he hugged her tightly, her face buried in his chest.

"I've hurt you so much haven't I?" he whispered into her ear, as he caressed her hair soothingly.

"N - no," she gasped, still sobbing. "You - you haven't."

He knew she didn't want him to feel hurt. He knew that he had caused her so much more heartbreak than she deserved... but now, he wasn't going to put her through anymore pain.

"I'm sorry," he whispered. "Will you please come back into my life?"

Sanyukta broke the embrace and she started to choke on her tears again.

"I - I -" she started, and he used his thumbs to wipe the tears from her face. "I - I don't know."

His hands fell to his sides as she said that and he felt his own heart shatter.

On the ground beside her bed were two people, Randhir and Sanyukta. In their hearts they were one... yet when spoken words caused injury, their hearts had always become two again.

"You don't know?" he asked her, feeling a hole inside his chest. "What do you mean you don't know?"

"It shines so bright today, but the Earth will soon cast its shadow on it... at one point, it even disappears into the sky, as if it was never there in the first place," she murmured. "Our love is like that. It's beautiful and bright, but when the shadow of insecurity gets cast

150

"For every thousand years that I have to spend away from you, if I'm destined to be with you for even one year, that is more than enough to keep me happy," she responded to him softly, "Whether I'm with you or away from you I can be happy. It's another thing completely that I desire to be with you Randhir, but not everything goes the way we want it to."

A thousand years away from her would kill him, not just slowly, but painfully as well. He could hardly live without her for a few minutes, a thousand years was unimaginable.

"But I can't," he replied, feeling his heart ache, "I can't be without you for even a moment Sanyukta... at least for me, come back?"

Tears filled her eyes and she placed her hand on her mouth to cover her sobs.

"I - I don't know," she repeated, lowering her hand.

"But why?" he asked her. "Why can't you come back?"

She squeezed her eyes shut and he could feel the pain that was resonating from within her.

"Randhir, I don't know how serious you are," she admitted, "One day you tell me you don't want me, and then the next day you say you do? I don't know."

"Forget all of that," he begged. "Please Sanyukta... please forget all of that and come back to me."

Sanyukta stood up and walked to the open window where Randhir had come in from.

"You're such an old man... you have a six year old daughter and here you're still climbing into windows to woo your girl?" she asked him lightly.

Randhir stood up too and brushed away the tears that had fallen from his eyes. He walked up to her and felt the cool breeze hit his face.

"Of course... I will do this until the day I die if I have to," he told her softly. "Even if I'm in a wheelchair, if my girl calls me, I will run to her faster than anything on this Earth."

"Big words, but they're hard to live up to," she told him softly, and then smiled, turning around to face him. "You see the full moon over there?"

He nodded. The moon was big and bright tonight.

"It shines so bright today, but the Earth will soon cast its shadow on it... at one point, it even disappears into the sky, as if it was never there in the first place," she murmured. "Our love is like that. It's beautiful and bright, but when the shadow of insecurity gets cast on it, the love itself disappears from sight."

Randhir cupped her face and brushed his lips against her forehead.

"You're right. I'm sorry I doubted you, I'm sorry I didn't trust you... I'm sorry I had many insecurities. I promise, from now on, I will love you only," he promised. "I love you so much Sanyukta... and today the full moon stands witness to this fact."

Her eyes filled with tears again and she gave a small smile.

"You know Randhir, it's easy to say things, but very hard to put them to action," she told him. "I love you too, but even gold turns impure once it is processed...it can never be one hundred percent pure. Just like that, love can't either, unless we are devoid of the mind. The mind likes to play tricks on us."

She wiped her fallen tears from her cheeks.

"If we can get away from the hold our mind has on us, if we can live just by our intuition, then perhaps we will be a step closer to confidently saying our love is pure," she explained. "Otherwise... we're just like the Earth casting shadows on something so pure and beautiful."

He took her hands in his and brought them to his chest, squeezing them lovingly.

"If you don't want to come with me, then I will respect your decision," he finally told her, his eyes tearing up at the thought. "I promise I won't argue with you or try to stop you."

"Then I'll tell you my decision," she whispered, "I expect you to respect it as you say you will."

He nodded and gulped nervously, feeling his heart sink with each moment that passed by.

151

Her decision may leave him heartbroken, but he knew that he had no choice... if heartbreak, pain, and suffering was what was written in his destiny, then so be it. It was not worth fighting destiny, because in the end, the writer always held the pen... the character's in the story, never stood a chance.

"My decision is... it is..." she began, her eyes filling with tears, "It is to come back with you."

Randhir wasn't sure whether he heard it correctly. Did she really say that she was deciding to come back with him? He wanted to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming.

"But I have a condition," she told him softly.

"Anything... any condition," he told her, bringing her hands up to his lips and kissing them softly.

"I'm still not sure about us, so you have to give me some space," she answered.

Randhir looked at her with shock. Space? Then why was she coming back with him?

"I'm coming back for Somya," she told him. "And... for you, but not for us."

"What?" he blurted out, completely taken aback by what she was saying.

"Randhir, I don't know... I'm very hurt. I want to be with you, I love you so much... but I can't pretend that I'm not scared. Even if I come back with you, I'll live in fear that... that what if one day you won't want me anymore, and will ask me to leave again?" she whispered fearfully.

"I won't Sanyukta," he told her, leaving her hands and cupping her cheeks. "I love you so much... I swear I will treat you like a queen."

"B - but Randhir... love isn't enough," she told him, fresh tears filling her eyes. "It wasn't enough six years ago, it wasn't enough a few days ago... and it won't be enough going forward."

"Then what do you want me to do?" he asked her. "I will give you space, but will you be able to live in that house, far from me, yet still loving me?"

"I'm not saying it will go on forever... just until I can let myself be loved by you again," she answered. "For now, please let's just take it slow."

He pulled her into a tight embrace and kissed her temple.

"It'll be so hard to stay away from you," he whispered into her ear. "But if this is what you want, then so it shall be."

He broke the embrace and kissed her forehead.

"I'll come back in the morning with Somya to get you... I'll come in through the front doors," he told her with a smile, and she looked at him lovingly, smiling back at him. "I will take you back home like a queen."

Sanyukta stood on her tiptoes and kissed him on the cheek.

"Thank you," she told him gratefully. "I'll see you tomorrow then."

"Good night," he told her and stroked her cheek with his thumb lovingly before turning around and leaving through the window.

As Sanyukta watched him go, she smiled, a warm feeling taking over her body.

Sometimes being in love gave you a thousand tears to cry, but even if it gave you one small smile, then that smile was worth all the pain and heartache... because that one small smile was worth more than any amount of tears.

152

It was like a miracle for Somya and him, when they arrived at Sanyukta's house. His six year old daughter was holding his hand excitedly, eager to see her mom. She had gone crazy with excitement after hearing the news of her mother coming back.

Randhir stood there awkwardly, wondering how he was going to face Sanyukta's parents. They hated him so much six years ago that they couldn't even stand his face... but now everything was different. Now there was no more time to run away and romance. Now they had to grow up and with his head held high, he had to confidently take his Sanyukta home.

As soon as the door opened, Sanyukta with a wide smile looked at him and then down to Somya, an excited glint in her eyes.

"My sweetheart!" Sanyukta exclaimed, as Somya threw her arms around Sanyukta's waist and buried her face in her mother's tummy. "I'm so happy you came."

"Let's go home mommy," Somya replied, breaking the hug and holding Sanyukta's hand, her other hand still in Randhir's.

"We will go home," Sanyukta told her happily, "But you need to come in and meet your grandparents and uncle and aunt first."

Somya looked at Sanyukta with shock, as if she had been hearing for the first time that she had grandparents and an uncle and aunt.

"Wow!" Somya said, sounding happy. "Okay! Let's go inside daddy!"

Then Somya pushed past Sanyukta, trying to drag both her mother and her father inside with her.

Sanyukta looked at Randhir and smiled, as he smiled back at her. Somya then sighed loudly.

"You two are too heavy to pull!" she complained, then she let go of their hands and ran inside the house.

Sanyukta looked at Randhir and grabbed his hand, squeezing it reassuringly.

"Everything will be okay," she murmured.

"I know," he said confidently and squeezed her hand back.

Hand in hand, the two of them walked into the house, to the living room, where the whole family was already there, waiting.

Somya had just run in and looked at everyone with wide eyes.

"You are all my family?" Somya asked loudly.

Sanyukta's parent's, brother, and Vidhushi all looked from Somya, to Randhir, to Sanyukta, to their joined hands.

Sanyukta looked down with a smile.

"This is Somya?" Anju asked.

"Yes I'm Somya!" Somya replied.

"Oh my love!" Anju exclaimed, and walked up to her granddaughter before engulfing her in a tight hug. "I have so much I want to give you."

"Me?" Somya asked, sounding stunned.

Kishore, Sanyukta's dad walked upto Somya, bent down and caressed his granddaughter's hair.

"This is for you," he said, taking out his wallet and giving her a few thousand rupee notes.

"Papa please you don't have to!" Sanyukta argued.

"You don't get to say anything in this matter," Kishore said.

Somya took the money and delightfully looked at her parent's.

"Somya say thank you," Sanyukta pressed.

"Oh... thank you!" she exclaimed.

"So you two... are you two good?" Ankit intervened, looking at Sanyukta and Randhir's clasped hands.

"Better than ever," Sanyukta replied with a wide smile.

"Thank you Vidhushi," Randhir said gratefully, "For telling me where I could find my Sanyukta."

Vidhushi leaned back on the couch, as if she wanted to disappear from the scene.

"Just keep her happy," she muttered.

He wrapped his arm around Sanyukta's waist and pulled her close to him.

Sanyukta rested her head against his bicep and grinned happily.

"Randhir," Kishore started with a cough, "I know I didn't exactly like you... but now I think that nobody can keep my daughter happier than you... so treat her well."

"Thank you uncle," Randhir said appreciatively. "I will take care of her."

"Call him papa, and you can call me ma," Anju interrupted. "I just want you two to stay together now... no more running away from each other, okay? You have to solve any problem you may have together, not by going apart."

Sanyukta nodded, and Anju smiled.

"Good, now the three of you can have lunch with us, then you can go home," Anju said, and Sanyukta nodded happily, glad to have her family accept her husband.

As the three of them had lunch, Sanyukta couldn't help but wonder how she would announce her pregnancy to Randhir... she wondered whether he would be happy or not. A nagging part of her worried that perhaps after all of this, he was not ready to have another child. Maybe he just wanted them to settle their relationship first.

How would he react?

153

After the three of them went home, they watched an animated movie together. Soon after that was done, Sanyukta put Somya to sleep and went downstairs to get a glass of warm milk.

When she had been pregnant with Somya, she used to drink a lot of milk because she was told that it had many health benefits for the growing fetus. Soon after, she craved a glass of warm milk almost everyday.

As soon as she took the glass of warm milk upstairs to their bedroom, where Randhir was shuffling through his wardrobe, in a towel, his hair wet, a feeling of desire hit her. She wanted to run her hands all over her husband's body and make senseless love to him. It was such a sudden feeling, that she herself was surprised.

Even during Somya's time, she had desired to have Randhir a lot... they said during pregnancy, libido increased a lot. Sanyukta could vouch that it was true.

She put the glass of milk down beside her on the table and walked upto Randhir, wrapping her arms around him from behind, her hands running up his chest. She pressed her face against his back and could feel the cooling effect from the remaining droplets of water on his body.

Surprised, he placed his hands on top of hers before taking them off and turning around. He looked into her eyes, and cupped her face.

"Are you okay?" he asked her, and she looked down at his lips.

"No," she muttered, her eyes fixated on his lips.

"What happened?" he asked, sounding concerned.

Her hands fell to his waist, where the top of the towel was. It took all of her self-control to not untie his towel right there.

"You," she replied softly.

"Me?" he asked, sounding scared. "When I said I'll stay away from you, I meant it... I promised to give you space, so don't worry, you can take as much time as you need."

You idiot, I don't need space at this moment, I need you... she wanted to say, but the words didn't leave her mouth. Instead she continued to lustfully stare at his lips.

"Why are they so perfect?" she murmured out loud.

"What?" he asked sounding confused. "What are you referring to?"

She lifted a hand off his waist and brought it to his lips, brushing her fingers against them gently.

"What are you doing?" he asked, sounding shocked. "Sanyukta I said I'll give you space... but if you come close to me, you're going to make it hard don't you think? Don't make it so difficult for me to stay away."

"Randhir," she whispered, almost moaning his name.

He looked at her with shock, at the tone she was saying his name with.

"Sanyukta?" he asked, saying her name like he had to make sure it really was his wife.

She slowly licked her lips, and buried her hand in his hair, her other hand pressing against the nape of his neck. She tried to pull his face closer to her, but he remained stiff. Instead, he looked at her with a stunned expression on his face.

"What - what happened to you?" he asked, sounding completely shocked.

154

He didn't know what hit her. Yesterday she told him she wanted to take things slow, and now she was looking at his lips and moaning his name like she wanted him right now. What was with her sudden mood change? What if she was just testing him to see if he would hold onto what he vowed to do? Yes... that had to be it. He was sure that this was a trick to see if he was being true to his word. So he decided not to give in.

As she tried to pull him close to her, he remained stiff, refusing to cooperate with her. No way was he going to fall for her tricks. She pouted, looking irritated.

"Sanyukta," he told her, reaching above him and taking her hands off his neck. "I need to change."

"Don't change," she commanded, and then touched his bare chest, causing certain sensations to go through his body. "I don't want you to change."

This had to be the most evil test she could give him... she was really testing both his patience and self-control right now. How could she seduce him like this and expect him to stay far away?

Her hands fell to his towel and Randhir felt his heart beat rapidly.

"D - Don't," he stammered, feeling all his blood flow down to where it shouldn't be going right now.

Her hands brushed over his hardness.

"Stop it," he groaned, pressing his back against the wardrobe and closing his eyes, having no willpower to push her away from him. "You're making this so hard Sanyukta."

"Oh I want you so badly," she moaned, and she started to unwrap his towel.

Now he had to stop her... this wasn't going to end well if she was doing all of this to him.

"Please don't do this to me," he begged, trying to take deep breaths.

He forced himself to grab her hands, but she remained firm, refusing to lift them off him.

"Didn't I say I want you?" she asked irritably. "What's your problem?"

"You - you said yesterday..." he started, but she let go of him and turned around angrily.

"Fine!" she interrupted, as his hands fell to fix his towel. "I'll stay away from you... but I'm really horny right now, so I guess I'll find someone else!"

"What?" he asked angrily and walked up to her, grabbing her arm and turning her around.

She smirked as she saw his raw passion, even if it was in the form of anger.

"If you don't make love to me senselessly right now, I will go to someone else," she provoked him with a smirk, biting down on her lip, trying to relax her arousal, but she was so turned on that she didn't think she could calm herself down right now.

He grabbed her arms and pulled her so close that she could feel his breath on her lips. This made her hands begin to sweat and her breathing get uneven.

"Randhir I want you inside me," she moaned. "Now."

"Stop testing me," he said angrily. "I know if I come even a little bit close to you, you'll say that I'm not true to my words. As much as I want to make love to you right now, I can't because I love you more than I want you."

Perhaps his words were meant to be romantic, but right now, in her state, they angered her. They angered her so much that she took a step back and grabbed her nightgown.

"Fine! Don't come close to me!" she yelled, tears springing in her eyes. "I guess you don't find me attractive anymore now that I'm getting fat!"

Then she disappeared into the bathroom and locked herself in it, as Randhir looked at the closed door that she had disappeared into, a stunned expression on his face.

What was with her sudden moodswings? On top of that, why did she think she was fat all of a sudden? She didn't look any different than she did before. Or was he just not noticing something?

155

When she came out of the bathroom in her nightgown, she pushed past him and picked up her glass of warm milk before downing all of it at once. She still had tears in her eyes, and he was looking at her, trying to figure out what was happening. She wasn't the type to suddenly get so insecure about her body.

"Did someone say something to you?" he asked her as she placed the empty glass on the table next to her.

She sniffled and ignored him, getting into their bed. Randhir, who had also gotten dressed while she was in the bathroom, got into their bed wearing a loose t-shirt and sweatpants.

"Sanyukta," he whispered lovingly, but she faced away from him, not saying a word.

He sighed and turned off the lights before he lay down. What did he do for her to ignore him like this? Why was she not speaking with him?

After a few moments of silence, she finally turned around.

"You - you don't love me anymore right?" she asked him, tears falling from her eyes. "You don't think I can satisfy you like I used to right?"

"How are you coming up with such thoughts?" he asked, her words sounding absurd to him. "I love you very much... you know that!"

"I don't know," she sniffled, and he touched her cheek softly, wiping the tears that had fallen from her eyes.

"Sanyukta what's with you? You don't normally get insecure like this," he told her softly. "Did someone hurt you?"

"You hurt me," she said, then she started to wail. "You hurt me Randhir!"

"I'm sorry," he murmured and kissed her forehead lovingly. "Come, let me hug you."

She looked up at him with hope in her eyes.

"Let's make love," she then said and a wide smile appeared on her face.

His eyes got so wide that he was sure his eyebrows hit his hairline.

"What? All of that drama just to get close to me?" he asked her.

"Randhirrr," she whined, reaching down to the bottom of his shirt and sliding her hand under it.

"Sanyukta stop it!" he warned, "This is going overboard now... you're just overdoing the test..."

"It's not a test! I want you to -" she started then lowered her voice to a whisper, "f**k me hard."

"Why are you whispering now?" he asked her incredulously thinking she was completely out of her mind.

"I don't want anyone else to hear," she murmured.

"Nobody else will hear," Randhir told her with a loud sigh. "But my answer is still no!"

"Fine!" she said loudly. "Then I'm going to sleep!"

"O - okay," he told her, so confused by her change in behaviour.

She closed her eyes and slid on the bed as far away from him as possible, and he just lay there shaking his head, trying to calm down his own raging hormones. It was such a struggle to keep his hands off her right now.

He fell asleep soon, and it was only in the middle of the night that he woke up to Sanyukta on top of him, determined to get what she wanted at any cost.

"Wh - what are you doing?" he asked, his eyes wide, as she was lifting her nightgown off of her body, all the while sitting up on a part of him that was going to make him lose control over himself if she didn't get off him right now.

156

Randhir was being so irritating! If she wasn't so turned on right now she would probably give him a piece of her mind... but right now she had other matters to take care of. Her husband would need to satisfy her, and it wasn't a request, it was an order.

"If I'm in a desert dehydrated with no water, and you had access to water wouldn't you give it to me?" she asked him impatiently as she finished taking off her nightgown and threw it on the floor beside her, exposing her body.

Randhir squeezed his eyes shut, because the sight of her like this was not going to be good for him. Especially since she wasn't wearing a bra.

"Oh God, Sanyukta you're going to make me go crazy," he muttered, placing his hands on her hips in a final effort to get her off him.

She had already started grinding her hips against him, causing him to groan loudly. Leaning towards him, she captured his lips in hers hungrily.

He couldn't help it. He kissed her back, and wrapped his arms around her, feeling her warm back after what felt like forever. As he held her body against his, she continued to suck on his lips hard, expressing all of her desire for him.

Breaking the kiss, she moved off him and grabbed his sweatpants, trying to pull them down.

"Wait," he muttered, and sat up on the bed, pulling them down himself.

After he removed them, he threw them on the ground and then took off his shirt as well.

He wasn't spared for a single moment as her lips attacked his chest. He grabbed her head, messing her hair and pushed her head further down his body, deciding that he couldn't wait any longer.

"You would have got it if you didn't make me wait so long," she told him, refusing to give him what he wanted and removing her head from his body, gasping for air. "Now we're getting straight to it."

She took off her panties, and threw them on the pile with the rest of their clothes. Guiding his hand down her body to the destination, he couldn't believe what he felt... she really was very turned on. Finally, she took off his boxers and threw them down as well.

Then she sat on him, easily gliding him inside her. Randhir groaned loudly as she started to rock her hips against his.

Once they had finished - according to when Sanyukta wanted to finish, she relaxed against his arms, on top of him.

"Now please tell me what has gotten into you," he told her, out of breath, as he held her closely. "You have left me so confused."

She pulled his cheek affectionately.

"I love you," she told him softly with a wide smile. "You are so cute."

"I love you too... but please, please don't play mind games with me," he told her, still trying to catch his breath.

She placed a kiss against his chest and smiled serenely.

"I wanted to ask you something," she then said.

"Mhmmm?" he asked her.

"What do you think about us having another child?" she asked him softly, her heart starting to beat faster, nervously waiting for his response.

With her in his arms, he glanced down at her, surprised by her sudden question. Another child? He hadn't even been thinking about that, then how had she come to think about it so soon?

"I don't know," he responded, "I haven't thought about it much... but do you think it's time for another child? We just got back together. Maybe it's better for us to sort our relationship first then have one."

Sanyukta looked up at him, her eyes filling with tears at his answer. She didn't even blame him... they hadn't exactly been planning to have another child when she got pregnant, and he was right. They had just began to mend their relationship. Instead of spending time with each other, it wasn't logical to think of bringing another child into the world.

Still, it happened. She was pregnant, and now it was irreversible. They both had to live with this. How could she tell him this though when he clearly didn't want to have one right now? She didn't want to be the bearer of bad news, even though for her, it was beautiful news.

"You really don't want to have another child?" she asked him softly, inwardly hoping he would change his response. "Don't you think it would be nice for Somya to have a sibling?"

Randhir seemed to think about it for a moment before responding.

"Well, yes of course. I think we should... but it's a bit soon. Even Somya happened unexpectedly when we weren't ready to have a child, and it hurt our relationship," he explained.

She closed her eyes and leaned further into him, unable to control the tears that were threatening to fall.

"I think our relationship is stronger now," she commented, her tears finally spilling out of her eyes onto his chest. "Don't you - don't you think so?"

"Sanyukta, you're crying?" he asked her softly, and she let go of him before sitting up on the bed, wiping away her own tears. "Are you okay?"

He sat up and held her shoulders lovingly.

"No," she admitted. "I'm not okay."

"Why?" he asked her softly. "Why are you so emotional today?"

"I... I want lemons," she hiccuped, ignoring his question. "Randhir cut a lemon in half and bring the pieces to me!"

He looked at her with shock.

"What?" he exclaimed. "Why?"

"I just want to eat lemons!" she urged. "Please Randhir!"

He looked at her like she had gone crazy.

"But - but just lemons?" he inquired. "It'll be so sour. I can bring it in water for you!"

"No!" she refused. "I want to directly eat the lemons... I want it to be very sour!"

"You've gone mad," he commented.

"Why're you calling me mad?" she asked, her eyes filling with tears again. "Fine! I'll get the lemons myself!"

"Okay, okay sit down. I'll bring them for you," he told her, and then stood up, shaking his head, as he put on his sweatpants and left the room to get his wife the lemons she had asked for.

She watched him as he went, a loving smile on her face. She licked her lips as she eyed his sweaty back. Perhaps she could initiate a round two when he came back.

Then her thoughts went back to her pregnancy. She touched her still flat stomach softly. Surely he couldn't be too upset if he heard the pregnancy news?

As he went downstairs to the kitchen, he started to get worried. She was behaving very strangely today, but he just couldn't place his finger on what exactly the problem was.

158

Randhir didn't understand what was happening to Sanyukta. Maybe she was about to get her period so she was behaving this way, but her PMS symptoms were never this extreme before. Perhaps it was because of all the stress she had over the last couple of weeks. He got the lemon from the fridge and cut it in half, before putting the two pieces in a bowl and taking it upstairs for his wife.

As soon as he entered the room, she smiled lovingly at him and he joined her on the bed, handing her the bowl. She looked down at the pieces of lemon and licked her lips, before picking up one piece and sucking on it.

"Mmm," she let out as she sucked on the lemon, and Randhir smiled, as he watched the juice drop down to her chin. "Want to try some?"

She held the lemon piece out for him, but he leaned closer to her instead, sucking the drops of lemon juice from her chin, catching her by surprise. His hand cupped her cheek gently, as his lips moved against her skin to her soft lips.

The sourness of her lips was strangely sweet, and he couldn't help but flick his tongue out, trying to taste as much of it as possible.

"It tastes very good," he murmured against her lips, causing her to tremble.

"Randhir," she moaned against his lips and put the bowl of lemons down on the bed, on the other side of her, before wrapping her arms around him, pressing her fingers into his bare back.

He pulled her onto his lap and kissed his way down to her neck, with her rolling her head back so he could have easier access. Her fingers were buried inside his hair.

"I love you," he whispered against her neck, and she was turned on by his warm breath which lingered on her skin.

Then all of a sudden, she felt a reaction happen inside her, and she pushed him away slightly. He looked up at her, concerned, and she pressed her hand to her mouth, about to throw up. The lemon, as tasty and satisfying as it was, didn't seem to have a good enough reaction with her body right now.

"I - I need to - I need to throw up!" she exclaimed, gasping for air.

She practically jumped off the bed and ran off to the bathroom, leaving Randhir there stunned.

All of a sudden, a thought struck him... all of these moodswings, the cravings, the insecurities about her body, and now the sudden sickness, and on top of that her random question about having another child - could it be that she was pregnant?

His eyes widened at the possibility.

Could it really be true?

159

Randhir followed Sanyukta into the bathroom, as she threw up into the toilet, her knees on the ground. He gathered all of her hair and held it back as she continued to puke. She waited for a few moments, until finally she closed her eyes and leaned back against Randhir's legs.

"I feel so sick," she murmured. "I guess the lemons weren't a good idea."

Then she stood up and Randhir flushed the toilet as Sanyukta started to wash her hands and face. Randhir joined her at the sink and washed his hands with the cool water, before using his thumb to get some of the vomit off the corner of her lips.

"Thanks," she said and he washed his hands again before turning off the tap.

Randhir dried his hands on a towel and she rested her head on his shoulder, closing her eyes.

He wrapped his arms around her and held her close to him.

"Are you okay?" he asked her softly.

"Yes, let's lie down," she murmured and he nodded.

Taking her hand, he lead her back to their bed and helped her lie down. He got in bed next to her and kissed her forehead.

"Thank you," she murmured, placing her hand on her belly.

Randhir watched suspiciously as she did that, she caressed it softly, almost as if she wasn't doing it to just her belly, but to something inside.

"Sanyukta, is there something you want to tell me?" he asked her.

"What do you mean?" she replied, closing her eyes.

"Are you - are you -" he started, gulping, as he thought of how to ask. "Are you pregnant?"

She sat up on the bed with shock and looked at him, surprised that he had actually figured it out.

"What did you say?" she asked.

"Are you pregnant?" he repeated.

"Y - yes," she told him, and then blushed, causing a small smile to form on his lips.

"Really?" he asked her.

"Yes," she nodded, and glanced down. "I know you didn't want to have a child so soon but -"

"Shh, this is the best news you could give me," he told her interrupting her, and then cupped her cheeks and pulled her towards him enough so he could kiss her deeply.

"Randhir, I just vomited!" she complained against his mouth.

"I don't care!" he responded, and deepened the kiss even further.

He was so happy... far more happy than his words were able to express. Yes, it was true that logically he wasn't ready to have another child, but sometimes the best surprises in life were given without logic, without reason, and the happiest moments in life were the ones that made no sense at all.

160

As he kissed her, she could feel the amount of happiness he felt. Sanyukta smiled against his lips, happy that her Randhir was happy. She was happy that finally, they were starting a family together, again.

"I love you, I love you, I love you," he muttered against her lips. "I love you so much!"

"I love you too," she replied, but he had already slid his tongue inside her mouth, not letting her speak any further.

She almost laughed - he was amazing. Her amazing husband, that she hadn't lost an ounce of love for.

"Can I tell you something?" he then asked, removing his lips from hers.

"Yes?" she asked breathlessly.

"I want you to stay with me forever. Will you?" he asked, his eyes sparkling.

"What kind of question is that?" she asked, blushing. "Of course, if it's in my control, I'll stay with you forever and ever."

"It's in our love's control," he murmured, kissing her temple softly. "If we can love each other unconditionally, then there's no way we would be apart... the universe can end, but we will be together."

Sanyukta smiled and snuggled into him, as she closed her eyes.

"If our love is that strong, then of course, time and space is nothing compared to it... if that's the case, then I guess you wouldn't even have the question," she murmured.

He rubbed her back soothingly and she started to take deep breaths, about to fall asleep.

"I want you to know, that with all my soul, I will love you," he said.

"If that's the case, you wouldn't need to say it out loud," she responded. "Sleep Randhir... it's getting late, and baby is tired."

"Oh yeah?" he asked and smiled, kissing the top of her head. "Alright then... by the way, how do you think Somya will feel once you tell her?"

"I don't know. Let's see tomorrow," she whispered and then smiled widely. "I love you."

"I love you too," he replied, closing his eyes.

As they held each other and slept, a newfound hope was born... a surreal reality, in which they flew away from themselves, towards each other. The destination of love was slowly starting to be realized, erasing all the insecurities that previously existed.

161

The next morning, Randhir, Sanyukta and Somya were having breakfast together. Randhir and Sanyukta kept on looking at each other, conversing with their eyes as to when the right time was to tell Somya she would be getting a sibling.

Somya noticed this exchange between her parents and looked at them with confusion.

"What are you hiding from me?" she asked.

"Hiding? Nothing!" Randhir said quickly.

Sanyukta sighed loudly, and Somya looked at her father suspiciously.

"What's going on?" Somya asked.

"Somya," Sanyukta interrupted. "You... you..."

"No Sanyukta!" Randhir interrupted.

"What?" Sanyukta asked, looking at him with irritation. "Let me tell her!"

"She'll feel upset," Randhir answered.

"What's happening?" Somya complained, stabbing a fork into her pancake with annoyance. "I want to know!"

"Why would she be upset Randhir? She'll be happy!" Sanyukta argued.

"But -" Randhir started.

"Shhh!" Sanyukta interrupted. "Somya, you're going to be an older sister."

Somya's eyes widened as soon as Sanyukta told her that.

"What?" Somya asked, sounding completely surprised.

"You're going to have a younger brother or sister," Sanyukta answered with a small smile.

Then she got up from her seat and walked over to Somya.

"How?" Somya asked, confused.

Sanyukta took her daughter's hand and brought it to her belly.

"Your brother or sister will grow here," she told her softly.

"Wow!" Somya answered, sounding shocked. "So I will have someone to play with?"

"Yes, someone to play with and take care of," Sanyukta answered, smiling.

Randhir watched as Sanyukta told Somya with a smile on his face. He had been worried that Somya would get insecure upon hearing this news, having gotten all the attention to herself all this time. He figured that the insecurities would come later, when Sanyukta and him had to openly give more attention to her younger sibling. Right now, Somya still had their undivided attention, so she had no reason to feel insecure.

"I want a sister so I can dress her up!" Somya declared, and Sanyukta and Randhir exchanged a smile.

"We know you'll love the baby very much, whether your sibling will be a sister or a brother," Sanyukta said, and then hugged her daughter tightly. "Now finish eating your food."

Somya nodded and pulled herself away from her mother before turning to her food and stuffing the pancakes in her mouth.

"Where will the new baby sleep?" she asked.

"With your father and I in the beginning," Sanyukta answered, sitting on her seat.

"What?" Randhir asked, surprised. "Why?"

Sanyukta glared at Randhir and he pressed his lips together.

"Can't the baby sleep with me?" Somya asked curiously.

"When the baby learns to sleep at night, then the baby can sleep with you," Sanyukta told her with a smile. "But it might not be for a few years."

"Years?" Randhir asked, his eyes wide. "We won't be alone in the room for years?"

"Randhir!" Sanyukta scolded, and then smiled softly, finding it incredibly cute.

It seemed like more than Somya, Randhir was the one who would be the most insecure over this new addition.

Sanyukta giggled to herself at the thought.

"Why're you laughing?" he asked her suspiciously.

"For no reason... you finish eating," she told him, and put a piece of pancake in her own mouth, a smile on her face.

162

After they had breakfast, Randhir pulled Sanyukta into their room and locked the door before wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her to him hard, capturing her lips with his in a passionate kiss.

Surprised, she kissed him back with full force, as his tongue slipped inside her mouth, tasting her hungrily. Her arms wrapped around his neck as her tongue fought with his for control.

Finally, he broke the kiss and pressed his forehead on hers, panting for air.

"What's gotten into you?" she asked him, with a smile.

"I need to spend as much time with you as possible," he answered, "I won't have your attention at all when the baby comes."

Sanyukta giggled and pecked his lips lightly.

"You are such a baby Randhir," she laughed, "I expected insecurity from Somya, but not from you!"

"What? I'm not insecure!" he denied.

"Riiight," she said, rolling her eyes.

"I just want to spend time with you!" he argued.

"Someone's in denial," she pointed out, and then buried her face in the crook of his neck, as she stood on her tiptoes.

He hugged her tightly and kissed her ear.

"Hey," she murmured.

"What?" he asked her.

"Don't turn me on," she warned. "You have to drop Somya to school... and you'll leave me here miserable."

"Come to work with me," he told her.

"What? Why?" she asked, breaking the hug and looking up at him, bewildered.

"I'll lock my cabin and we can spend time there," he said with a smirk.

"Randhir!" she scolded, glaring at him. "Do you go to office to work or to do other stuff?"

"I'll come back home after dropping Somya then - hey, let's just send her with the driver," he told her. "One day with the driver won't -"

"Randhir!" Sanyukta scolded again. "Go and drop her!"

He sighed and let go of her.

"Fine!" he said. "But watch, when I come back, I'm not letting you spend even a single moment away from me."

"Go to work," she said, trying to sound annoyed.

"I will darling. But I'll come home early to meet you," he told her, then smiled and kissed her cheek. "I love you."

"I love you too," she replied and hugged him again. "Come, let's go!"

Then she took his hand and lead him downstairs where Somya was already waiting, ready to go to school.

"Somya, let's go," Randhir said.

"Okay," Somya said excitedly. "See you after school Mommy!"

"Bye Somya, be a good girl... and you Randhir, be a good boy," she warned.

"I'll be a good boy," he said and winked at Sanyukta causing her to blush.

After the two of them disappeared, Sanyukta smiled... she had two babies in the house already, and a third one was coming their way. How was she going to manage three babies?

163

Months passed before they knew it, and Sanyukta was going to the doctor for regular checkups. During the seventh month of her pregnancy, Sanyukta was sitting on her bed grumbling.

"Randhir!" she grumbled irritably.

"What?" he replied, busy working on his laptop.

He was working more from home these days so he could take proper care of her.

"My legs are so hairy!" she complained.

"Then shave them," he answered, not even turning around to look at her.

"I can't even reach my legs! My belly is too big!" she complained, and then folded her arms across her chest unhappily. "Shave them for me!"

Randhir closed his laptop and turned around to face her, watching his wife's grumpy expression.

He walked up to the bed and sat down next to her before he placed his hands on her shoulder's and began to massage them, relaxing her muscles.

"Oooh that feels good," she said, feeling herself melt against him.

"You don't need to shave. You look beautiful the way you are," he told her softly.

"I want to wear dresses and don't want to go out with hairy legs!" she whined. "You have to shave them for me... please Randhir!"

He smiled and kissed her temple, as he let go of her shoulders.

"What are you doing?" she asked, and turned around to face him.

Randhir chuckled. His wife looked so beautiful, trying to look angry. In reality, she was glowing.

"Is it you who's angry or is it the baby?" he asked her softly.

"Me!" she told him seriously.

He placed a kiss on her neck and she bit down on her lip, holding back a moan.

"I love you," he muttered against her neck.

"Then shave my legs for me," she told him impatiently.

"Okay, come let's go," he told her, giving in to her demand.

"Pick me up! I don't want to walk," she said to him authoritatively.

"Yes, my queen," he said, and then picked her up in his arms in one swooping movement. "Wow you're heavy!"

"Randhir!" she scolded with a pout.

"I'm kidding," he told her with a smile, and then walked with her to the bathroom.

When he finally put her down, she hugged him.

"This belly is coming in the way of me hugging you too!" she whined, and then her eyes filled with tears. "Randhir!"

He walked around her and hugged her tightly from behind.

"It's not coming in the way now," he whispered into her ear softly. "Hey, forget showering. Let's go to the bed."

"I'm hairy!" she complained, even though she was already trembling with desire for him.

"As if that makes you less desirable," he told her, rolling his eyes.

"Just do your job and shave... if you do a good job, I'll think about it," she answered him with a smirk.

He placed his hands over her belly.

"See the baby is kicking too," he whispered. "You need to relax a bit."

"Shave me!" she commanded.

"As you wish my love," he told her, finally giving up, and turned on the shower. "Take off your clothes."

"You don't sound like you desire me at all!" she huffed, and started to remove her clothes.

"You won't let me show you how much I want you. What can I do?" he teased.

"Fine," she replied irritably. "Don't desire me then!"

"Hey, you're sexy -" he started but she gasped at him with horror.

"Are you crazy?" she snapped. "Don't say those words in front of our baby!"

"Yes my love," he responded with a smile as he picked up her razor and shaving cream.

After she finished removing her clothes, she walked into the shower and smiled, feeling the warm water run down her body.

"Tell me if it's too hot," he said to her, as he bent down to apply the shaving cream on her legs.

"It's perfect," she replied, holding her leg out.

As Randhir started to shave her legs for her, he couldn't help but smile. He loved doing these little things for his wife to pamper her. A lot of men may find it strange, but for him, there was nothing strange about his wife.

She was comfortable with him in her natural state, and he was comfortable with her in his, and they were both comfortable with each other... this comfort level and freedom to be who they were was just one of the many aspects of what made their love so strong.

164

"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to youuu!" Sanyukta sang as she brought in a cake for her daughter's seventh birthday. "Happy birthday my dear Somya... Happy Birthday to you!"

Somya woke up and rubbed her eyes with a big smile, excited. She looked at the cake hungrily, then her eyes fell to Sanyukta, her big belly, and behind her was her father.

"Daddy you're up?" she asked, shocked.

"How could I miss wishing my daughter," he said lovingly, then sat on the bed beside her. "Happy Birthday sweetheart."

Randhir kissed Somya's head and Sanyukta placed the cake on the table next to Somya's bed.

"Let's cut your cake darling," she said with a smile.

Somya took the knife and Sanyukta held Somya's hand in place as the two of them cut the cake together. Once they cut a piece, Sanyukta fed Somya lovingly.

"It's so good," Somya gasped. "Mommy did you make this?"

Sanyukta nodded, and Randhir approached her, picking out a piece of cake and feeding it to his daughter.

"Guess what mommy and daddy got you for your birthday?" Sanyukta asked cheerfully.

"What?" Somya asked curiously.

"You'll see! First you get ready to go to school," she pushed.

Somya got up and ran into the bathroom to brush her teeth and shower. Sanyukta sat on Somya's bed and leaned back, her back aching.

"Almost eight months now," she murmured to Randhir, who was busy stuffing his face with the cake. "Stop eating so much!"

Then she smirked as she saw some chocolate on the corner of his lips. Sanyukta leaned towards him and cupped his cheek affectionately. As she was about to lick the chocolate off his lips, her belly came in the way and she groaned.

"I hate this!" she said, tears filling her eyes. "It always comes in the way!"

Randhir smiled and placed his hand on her belly lovingly.

"I love it though," he whispered to her and then slid over beside her, holding his cheek out for her. "Here."

Sanyukta grabbed his shirt and licked the chocolate off his lips.

"Mmm," she whispered. "It tastes better on your lips."

Just then the door to the bathroom opened and Randhir pulled himself away from Sanyukta really quickly.

"Daddy why did you just jump?" Somya asked curiously.

"Me? Jump? No! The cake - the cake tastes so good!" he said, trying to cover up.

Somya looked confused.

"I just forgot my towel," she stated, then picked up her towel and disappeared back into the bathroom.

Sanyukta started to giggle and took his hands, before her expression turned serious.

"Our room now," she ordered.

"What?" he gasped, his eyes wide. "B - but Somya... she has to go to school."

"She will go to school. We'll be done before she finishes showering if you'll just hurry!"

"I don't know what pregnancy has done to you Sanyukta, but I'm loving this," he said, and helped her stand up before he lead her into their bedroom to fulfill her desires.

Sometimes, some things came together to fall apart... then the broken pieces came together again, but fell apart once more, creating more shards. This process kept going on until finally the shards turned to dust and joined together, forever in unison.

165

She examined her eight month pregnant belly in the mirror with her hand on it, and pouted before calling, "Randhir!"

He turned around on his chair and looked at her, concern on his face.

"Is everything okay?" he asked.

"No!" she whined. "Come here!"

He got up immediately and walked up to her.

"What's wrong?" he asked her.

She grabbed his arms and turned him around so he would face the mirror as well. Then she stood next to him and intertwined her hand with his, before resting her head on his shoulder.

"Look!" she said.

"Where?" he asked, looking at her with a confused expression on his face.

"In the mirror! How do we look?" she asked him.

"Good?" he answered, asking it like a question because he really was not sure what she wanted to hear from him.

"No! We look so bad together!" she complained. "I look so fat next to you!"

"Are you crazy?" he asked her, turning around to look at her. "You don't look fat! You just look like a pregnant woman!"

"And a pregnant woman looks fat!" she told him, and her eyes filled with tears. "I don't even look good next to you Randhir!"

Randhir sighed and took her hand in his, leading her to the bed.

"Sanyukta please rest," he said softly, "You look beautiful."

"Do I?" she asked him, looking up hopefully.

"Super beautiful," he said lovingly, and then touched her belly softly. "You look more beautiful than ever right now... did you not see the glow on your face?"

She shook her head.

"Tell me about it," she said with a small smile and then laid down on the bed, on her left side, facing the wall.

Randhir helped her place a pillow under her belly bump so she wouldn't get uncomfortable. Then he got onto his side of the bed and lay down as well, hugging her from behind.

"The glow on your face is so strong that I fall even more in love with you every time I look at you," he murmured into her ear.

She squeezed her eyes shut and blushed.

"Really?" she whispered out loud.

"Really," he answered lovingly, and then kissed her cheek.

"Randhir?" she asked out loud.

"Mhmm," he asked.

"Let's make out," she said.

Randhir smiled, used to his wife's sudden mood changes.

"Sure," he answered, succumbing to her desires once more.

"B - but I can go into labour any moment any moment now," she said to him seriously. "But that's okay! I just want to kiss!"

"You just relax," he said with a light chuckle, and then reached down to lift her night dress.

"I wish I could hug you properly," she groaned. "It's almost impossible to kiss with this belly!"

"Soon," he whispered to her lightly, as he rubbed her leg soothingly.

"Are you crazy?" she argued. "No way! Soon we'll have the baby to take care of... there will be no time for us!"

"We'll make time," he said to her. "We have to!"

"No!" she denied. "Once the baby comes, we won't have time! That's it!"

Randhir sighed and removed his hand from underneath her dress.

"Let's take care of that later," he said, brushing it off, and then started to kiss the side of her neck from behind her, causing her to hold back a moan.

"Randhir," she said, interrupting him from his kissing.

"Hmm?" he asked her, still kissing her exposed skin.

"I know we said we will wait to see if it's a boy or a girl, but let's come up with names!" she said to him.

Randhir sighed and left her neck... he was used to do this too. Sanyukta told him she wanted him, and then love sessions would be left incomplete.

"I don't know," he said aloud.

"Whatever the gender is, the name will start with R," she said decisively.

"Why?" he asked her.

She rolled her eyes.

"S for Sanyukta and Somya is done, so now it's R for Randhir," she answered. "Duh!"

Randhir laughed and nodded.

"Fine," he answered, and closed his eyes as she continued to talk, feeling very sleepy.

Taking care of a pregnant woman was hard work.

166

Sanyukta knew that anytime now she would go into labour. She was hoping that it would be sooner rather than later because being pregnant ached a lot... her back hurt, her feet were always swollen and she couldn't even hug Randhir or Somya properly. She couldn't do many of the things she was able to do before.

She was sitting on the couch, with Somya's head against her bump, listening to the baby, and Randhir beside Somya on his phone.

"I'm so exhausted," Sanyukta said out loud.

"Mommy you should rest," Somya said, still trying to listen to the baby.

"I'm tired of resting," Sanyukta replied, and then breathed sharply. "That's all I've been doing..."

Randhir looked up and reached out to caress Somya's hair.

"Somya your mother just wants to have the baby," Randhir explained with a smile.

"Why are you smiling?" she asked irritably. "You don't know how it feels to carry a baby for nine months."

"Sorry, I'll cry," Randhir replied sarcastically and Somya started to giggle.

Sanyukta smiled too.

"I just love the two of you," she said out loud.

Then all of a sudden, she felt something wet between her legs.

"We love you too," Randhir said with a smile.

"R - Randhir," Sanyukta gasped. "My water broke!"

"Really?" he asked, his eyes wide with shock.

"Yes!" she yelled.

"What does that mean?" Somya asked, sounding confused.

"Your mommy is going to have the baby," Randhir replied. "Come Sanyukta, let's go to the hospital."

Randhir picked up his phone as he walked over to Sanyukta. He dialed Ishika's number.

"Ishika, please come over and take care of Somya. Sanyukta is in labour... the two of us need to go now," he said into the phone before hanging up.

Randhir then helped Sanyukta stand up.

"Somya, we'll be back," Randhir told her. "You don't worry... we'll bring the baby home. Ishika will be here soon."

Somya nodded, her eyes wide.

"Come soon," she replied with excitement. "I want to play with the baby!"

"Somya - eat - eat dinner," Sanyukta ordered, trying to take deep breaths. "Don't watch too much tv... go to bed on time."

"Yes mommy!" Somya responded with a big grin.

"Sanyukta, she'll be fine... our Somya is a mature girl. Come on now... we need to get you to the hospital," Randhir intervened.

She nodded and leaned against Randhir as he walked with her out the door and lead her to his car.

After a few hours of her contractions starting, Sanyukta was holding Randhir's hand tightly in the hospital.

"I can't wait to see our baby," she murmured.

"Me neither," he said with a smile and kissed her forehead.

"Randhir, can you come outside for a moment?" the doctor asked.

"I'll be back," he told Sanyukta lovingly and then followed the doctor out of the room.

"Randhir, there are some complications in the pregnancy," the doctor informed right away. "We need to do a Caesarean section immediately and get the baby out to safety. It's suffocating in the womb right now."

Randhir felt his hands shake as the doctor told him his baby was in danger and his eyes filled with tears.

"Then do it," he said right away. "Please do it!"

"But there is a problem Randhir... it can put Sanyukta's life in danger," the doctor informed.

Randhir felt like his world had collapsed on him.
