Nobody's Wife
(Her Life - for Good or for Worse)
Preface
Marriage is a sacred bond, the unification of two individuals with differing personas and backgrounds. It is a promise between a man and a woman, to respect, support, understand, trust and love each other, righting one's wrongs and working together to create an amiable environment between the families.
But the society often mistakes it to be a relationship, one with men dominance. A bond in which men are expected to earn and women are, well, to follow his orders and do things that make him happy. Unfortunately, this is what most of the middle-class parents define and molded their daughters accordingly.
What happens when born into a family that has society and its unfairness towards women as its priority? When your own family places your happiness on pedestal lines and expects you to shoulder sole responsibility in making your marriage work, no matter how your husband treats you?
"Nobody's wife" follows the journey of one such woman, Khushi Gupta, as she struggles to find a place in the society of orthodox families and men dominance. This story showcases her willingness to fulfill every whim of her family, thus respecting society and its unfair injustice and her revolution against said norms when her happiness is threatened; her soul is wounded beyond healing. Born into one such middle class, orthodox patriarch family where women often followed the voice of their fathers, husbands and later, sons, the consequences of her actions when she tried to stand up to her beliefs portrays the struggles thereafter where such families, unfortunately, believes and accepts it as their fault for the change in the mind set of their off-springs.
With a promising career despite the hollowness in her life, it is her sheer passion that pushes a twenty-five year married woman to confront the age old tradition and take the plunge to stand up for herself, even if that meant parting ways with her family, in her pursuit of her true self.
"I don't want to be married just to be married. I can't think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I can't talk to, or worse, someone I can't be silent with"
~~ Mary Ann Shaffer ~~
