Best hindi comedy tv shows of all time


Flop Show (1989): Jaspal bhatti's satirical take on the common societal problems in India.



Ulta Pulta (1988): The pioneer of Doordarshan channel, Jaspal Bhatti's 'Ulta Pulta' was a spoof on the problems faced by the common man in their everyday live. Yet again he striked chords with the masses with his simple yet pinching satire on the corruption in society.

Dekh Bhai Dekh (1993): The story revolves around three generations of the Diwan family, who lived as an extended family in Mumbai suburbs in their ancestral bungalow. The serial takes the family through relationship troubles, business problems, irksome parents and in-laws.


Zabaan Sambhal Ke (1993): Zabaan Sambhal Ke is one of the best comedy shows on DD metro based on a British sitcom "Mind Your Language". Mohan Bharti (Pankaj Kapoor) was an engineer in the show who was forced to teach Hindi in a language school due to high employment rate. His students were the people from all corners of the country as well as the world. Veteran actress Shobha Khotey played the role of a obnoxious principal Miss Lata Dixit. The show was based on a theme of "I-hate-my-job", "lost-in-translation" and culture shock situations.


Ye Jo Hai Zindigi: It was one of the first sitcoms and one of the biggest comedy hit series on indian television. The story revolves around funny happenings in the lives of Ranjit Verma (Shafi Inamdar), and Renu Verma (Swaroop Sampat), who played a married couple in the show alongwith Renu's unmarried brother Raja (Rakesh Bedi).


Shrimaan Shrimati (1995): The series is based on the premise of "love thy neighbour's wife". The main characters are Keshav Kulkarni and his wife Kokila, and their neighbours Prema Shalini and her husband Dilruba. Keshav adores Prema Shalini who is more glamorous and sophisticated than his homemaker wife Kokila. Dilruba is interested in Kokila who is more his type rather than his film star wife. The episodes are centered on their attempts to get closer to each other's wives and the comical situations that result.



Hum Paanch (1995): Anand Mathur, a middle-class businessman living in Bombay, gets no end of trouble from his five wild and troublesome daughters and wife.


Zamana Badal Gaya Hai: The story was about parents their three children and grandmother. It was the hilarious one with the cast includes Aruna Irani, Tiku Talsania, Urvashi Dholakia.



Tu Tu Main Main (2000): Tu Tu Main Main is an Indian television comedy series based on Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law arguments and bickering.




Ye Shadi Nahi Ho Sakti: It was the biggest comedy show of sony. The story revolves around a man Golcha (Sudhir Pandey, Bunty Baweja) of the movie Tees Maar Khan, who wants to be bankrupt because they don't want to pay the tax. Therefore they try to loose money but the irony was it always turns into profit.


Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai (2004): Indian comedy show that revolves around the life of a upper-class Gujarati family, the Sarabhai's. They are portrayed as a typical family belonging to the class of elite societies of Mumbai.The main comic part in this show is the relation of the upper-class mother-in-law Maya who constantly belittles her middle-class daughter-in-law Monisha and hates the fact that she behaves as a typical middle-class women.



Khichdi (2002): A family comedy surrounding an old man, his good for nothing son, Praful and wife Hansa, widow daughter in law Jayshree and their children who are the smartest of them all.




Family No. 1: Family No. 1 told the story of 6 kids, 3 each from 2 families staying in the same house as circumstances pushed two unconnected families to live as one happy household. And the last thing they wanted to do was to stay together! The madness began with each family trying to outwit the other, scheming and planning, squabbling and tricking, each trying to be one up on the other family, in the mad race to be The FAMILY NO. 1.



Just Mohabbat: There were very few serials for children/ teens other than cartoons on Indian TV back in time. This one offered good entertainment for teens and adults. The drama-series that first aired on Sony Entertainment Television in 1996 was featured in two parts. One where the child actor Harsh Lunia played the central character of Jai and the story focused more on his formative years into a mature being and then when the character was replaced by a teenage Vatsal Seth where the story focused on his relationships with his family and friends, specially his imaginary friend.

Hip Hip Hurray (1999): The story was based on the lives of 12th grade students at the DeNobili High School and their adventures, fears, hopes, relationships and interactions. Besides that the story also focuses on the issues pertinent for the younger generation such as dating, careers, health, exams, causes in a light-hearted manner.



Office Office (2000): The Show Follows the comedy of a man struggling to get his work done in corrupt offices.



Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi: Jassi Walia, with her nerdy glasses, braces, clumsy ways and a heart of gold won over her colleagues, her handsome boss and all of us. The story of an ordinary girl with dreams of making it big, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi was a departure from the saas-bahu soaps which were a staple on Indian television at that time. The show's script made the audience connect with the geeky protagonist. So popular did the Sony show become that fashion designers launched Jassi collections and the Indian postal department even issued a first-day cover featuring the protagonist, played by Mona Singh, on the show's first anniversary.




Hum Sab Ek Hain: This show was based on a mantra of "Anekta mein ekta". The story was based on a extended family staying together under one roof. The difference in this serial was that every female married in this house was from different regions of India. Their mother was south indian, elder brother's wife (Dolly Bindra) was from punjab, middle brother's wife was bengali, and younger brother's wife was Gujrati.



FIR (2006): Centered around a Haryanvi female police officer named Chandramukhi Chautala and her subordinates. The show depicts their lives as they try to solve every case which comes to Imaan Chowki.



Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah: Common men face problems and fight against them depicted by Jethalal Gada.



Comedy Nights with Kapil: Every episode starts with stage act of Kapil Sharma and various characters and then Kapil take one or more celebrity interview with co-actors.

Tarak Mehta and CNWK is nothing compared to..


Shriman - Shrimati, Tu Tu Mein Mein, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Khichdi, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Jassi Jaise koi nahin.. Family No. 1, Hip hip hurray, Just mohabbat.

Entire childhood and teen years. I would add Fimly Chakkar and Yeh Jo hai Zindagi in above list.

My all time favorite is Zabaan sambhal ke! I loved,loved loved that show. Also, death bhai dekh! Indian tv was gold back then.

Hip Hip Hurray is not a comedy. Why did they put that on this list?! That was my favorite show on life issues!

Why Jassi is there in the List ? It was One of My Fav shows . But It was never ever a Full Fledged Comedy show . '

I dont watch TV these days so no idea on recent shows
But as kid i loved to watch Dekh bhai dekh and Zaban Sambhal Ke
Hilarious stuffs😆😆😆
