I'm not a politician. I don't know how to solve the problems of the world. But as an artist, I have one duty: to ask questions - (Says she).
The movie will mark the most ambitious project undertaken by Satrapi.
Marjane Satrapi is a celebrated Iranian-born French Graphic novelist, illustrator, cartoonist, film director and children's book author.
She is best known for her autobiographic novel Persepolis' (2000), which was adapted into the movie of the same name (2007) describing her childhood in Iran and her adolescence in Europe.
Her latest directorial venture was The Voices, which starred Ryan Reynolds.
She is married and lives in Paris. Her Paris apartment is described as a mosaic of Middle Eastern and Western cultures.
A multi-lingual talent, she speaks 5 languages French, English, Swedish, German and Italian. She was a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
Dhanush
In a Times of India report, Satrapi reveals, "As I was watching various Indian movies, Dhanush became the most obvious choice " his intelligence, his killer smile, his ability to enter fully into the skin of any character he played (and I can go on and on forever) made me confident that he was the one."
"It's a story about love, magic and adventure and it takes place across three continents. I'm drawn to fantasy stories and I love creating worlds that don't exist, imagining things in bigger and more beautiful ways," said Satrapi, who aims at weaving fantasy with realism, grounding the story in today's world and touching on the condition of refugees.
Dhanush and Uma Thurman
The comedy adventure tale is an adaptation of Romain Purtolas' bestselling debut novel the French best-seller The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped In An Ikea Cupboard.
With Deepika Padukone set to star against Vin Diesel in XXX and Priyanka Chopra already in Quantico, iKarmik says, it seems to be an interesting year for Indian actors in Hollywood.
And the combination of Dhanush, Uma Thurman and Marjane Satrapi, three people from such different backgrounds, would be the most-awaited thing to watch. We wish all the best to Dhanush!
