OSO Vs Saawariya: A comparison

As OSO and Saawariya battle it out on the big screen this Diwali, we try and analyze the prospects of the two biggies.

OSO Plot
The film begins in 1970, with a junior artist, Omprakash Makhija (SRK) and his unspoken love for a top actress, Shantipriya (Deepika) who in turn loves the then reigning Bollywood big shot, Mukesh Mehra (Arjun Rampal). Om gets killed in a scuffle with Mehra but is re-incarnated as today's Bollywood star while Deepika plays the regular college-going girl. SRK is shown hallucinating about his past life (remember Karan Arjun…Prem?) It all leads to a musical climax ala Subhash Ghai's Karz.

Saawariya Plot

Saawariya is about the lives of the two protagonists played by debutants Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor waiting for the love of their life to come to them. It is based on Dostoyevsky's short story White Nights, which revolves around the life of the narrator who spends four consecutive nights in the company of a girl. On the fourth night, the narrator does profess his love to the girl but her lover comes to her and forgetting about the narrator, she leaves with her lover. Apart from the two new faces characters, Rani Mukherji and Salman Khan play pivotal roles in the movie.

Likely highlights

OSO

SRK's six pack abs

Song featuring 31 stars

SRK's chemistry with Deepika. He has a habit of making it work with first timers opposite him – Rani in KKHH and Sushmita in Main Hoon Na

Shreyas Talpade can be banked upon to deliver an impressive performance

Farah Khan's direction. She proved with MHN that she is competent at delivering a masala flick

SAAWARIYA

The novelty factor surrounding the star debutants Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor's baring his backside like his father did in Bobby
The music which is already making waves

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's typical big and elaborate sets with immense detailing

Salman and Rani's presence

Possible weak links

OSO

Arjun Rampal is yet to prove his credentials as an actor

Reports of it being a Karz remake might go against the film

SAAWARIYA

Bhansali's known tendency of concentrating a bit too much on the intricacies which can get irritating at times

Too much expectation from the two newcomers

Interesting Links: OSO and Saawariya

Shah Rukh Khan made his debut in Deewana (1992) which had Ranbir Kapoor's dad Rishi Kapoor in the lead

Salman and Rani will be seen in both films – in a special song in OSO and in important roles in Saawariya

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor were once a couple

SLB ,started the media blitzkrieg with a cover of himself and his 'babies'
Sonam and Ranbeer -he a star maker. He was hyper on the SVOI sets, and
controlled all the shots.Sonam never looked better! Now he seems to
have gone into a shell. And his 'babies' are left to fend for himself. The
neglect is showing,Sonam looks strange in her red and now black(JDJ)
shapeless frocks 😕 .Not a single interview of hers has been shown on
TV.
Pretty postcard pictures are regularly released to the press but little
else! Why aren't Rani and Salman roped in for the media promotions?

On the other hand Farha khan carrying her triplets is beaming into the
camera with her entire brood of cast members(extra motherly love and
pride for the new starlet Deepika). They seem so upbeat!

Saawariya team has to STEP IT UP and quick,or it will lose the momentum
build up so far.

well ...my take on OSO first .. from promos what i ve interpreted is that its a one man show ,, n that is SRK .. deepika is galmorous n beautiful . but her sharpness with all those scandels whch are brought to make cheap publicity spoiled my interest .. n too much promotion is now getting irritating for me atleast!!!!

the sotry is out ... the dialogue promo is not impressive .. the same rona dhona marna ..doosra janam is getting on the head ... plus i m missing the OLD srk ... this new sick pack thing is not suiting him ...

farah's cool n motherly behavious is too much to digest ...!! i ve seen her in cofeewith karan n from that day i ve lost respect of rthis women(no offences)

Now my take on SAAwaiya !!

saawariya on the other hand has impressed me in everyway it can .... from the teaser to the latest promo jan say teray naina .. they left the audience keep guessing about the movie ...

the story is looking god too .. i ve read white nights .. it was a beautiful dotry ,.per i also know that sanjay's interpretation to it is different ... so again we cant say that its a copy of that short story!!!!

The sets are breathtakingly amzing ... according to the story ....

the lead pair .. though they are new to the industry ,. but from their expressions its hard to say they are new to this field .... n what a chemistry they have .. the visuals speaks volumes .. what will happen when we watch the movie ..

so in this respect the Promos did their job ....

the other promotional activities are quite well as compared to OSo's ..to me Saawariya's Promotion is done in a normal way ....
